Hey mate, well played. You did really well and improved a lot since the last time when he won in straight sets against you. I've played in a tournament with Liam before and I know for a fact he has spent hours a day practicing his serve; it's his best shot and has won him many matches. I think playing to his backhand as you mentioned at the start is a great strategy. I felt like when you hit to his backhand, he was never really in control of the point. If you could get your backhand cross court more rather than in the middle that would have been better. One other thing is when you're defending and the opponent has the whole court to aim at, I think it's often best to fake covering the open court but remain where you are because a lot of the time they will just hit the ball back at you. He won a few key points just hitting it where you were first positioned. Your serve has improved a lot since the last match so keep going with everything, you're doing really well!

Felix, you played a blinder in thatfirst set and your serve has definitely got more pop on it. All I would say is I think you were coming to the net too much off the wrong balls. Given how well players move defend now, you should only really come to the net if your opponent is in a more defensive position to guarantee an easier first volley. Also I would throw in some serve volley points occasionally to keep your opponents guessing. But overall you played well and I think your level is going up and you are getting closer. Goodluck for next week👍

You played an amazing match, you def were creating your own opportunities with the big flat approaches and finishes at net. Overall the quality of your first volley is super high and fun to watch. You certainly could've won that match if just a few things had gone differently! Keep it up!!!

Well played, man! I know it's a loss, but if that's the level of the players you will be playing at Futures events, then you've proved you're there! Don't you dare give up, I want to see you at an ATP Challenger at least! 😉 A comment on the match, he seemed to make a lot of mistakes in the first set because you were coming to the net and forcing those errors. The second set he didn't make as many mistakes and of course his serve was very dominant throughout. Unfortunately that's a theme that's going to continue as you go forward, so my advice would be to master your return game. Always be on the look out for tiny cues with people's serves, anticipation is the name of the game! My favourite interview is Agassi talking about Beckers serve and his little ways, for reference. Anyway, love the content - keep it up bro!

Great playing Felix! The way you played the 4th and 5th points you won in the 3rd set tiebreaker is the exact way you should play all the time. A nice blend of patient tennis with attacking tennis on the right ball. You could tell you lost your belief in staying patient with him and you rushed the net a few times on the wrong balls. In saying that, you played awesome and you should be super proud! Good luck in the next tournament.

If I might make a recommendation. You already have a good net game and come in to break the pattern of play (i.e. getting into baseline grinds), but would you also consider changing pace a lot? Maybe bring your opponent in deliberately on an awkward approach shot. One of the smartest of many smart things John McEnroe said was, "Never hit the same ball twice in a row."

Some feedback; you had a game plan to attack his backhand, but in truth, you didnt really hit that many shots there at all, and I dont think I saw many that were up high. On looking at his game, his backhand seems a little unconventional. I genuinely would have thought you would have attacked that more.

I thought the same. Liams backhand was way less dangerous than his forehand. But you can clearly see that in the tiebreaker Liam hit some great backhands under pressure. So maybe rally against the backhand and attack on the forehand?
@TOXRaizou
@TOXRaizou 2 жыл бұрын
Agree with him. But still you played pretty well with the volleys. They were really consistents, and you shouldn't feel bad about losing that match. My feedback ? You played very solidly, but I feel like you hit too much balls in the center. Those kind of players hate having high balls on their 1 handed backhand. Judging from his backhand's swing, I can tell he's solid but I'm pretty confident he can't keep up lifting high balls with his backhand. You played great overal, I'm pretty sure you'd have won that game if you played his backhand side more and finished the point with the volley / smash. My 2 cents.

@@TOXRaizou I was really surprised that Felix match plan worked as good as it did. A player of Liams caliber shouldnt be intimidated if someone comes surprisingly to the net. I think Felix movement and his consistent volleys were key to the great success. Also his spirit in the first set, the service game at 4:4 15:30 was very clutch and also not collapsing after not finishing the first set at 5:4. Great match and Felix can learn a lot of it.

Great match. It seems that you’re up the middle of the court WAY too much in rallies. (Check the video to confirm this) Tennis in this regard is like speed chess. PICK A BOX when rallying. Hitting the ball up the middle means you’re not making a decision to place the ball (just quickly pick a box) Picking a box gets your opponent OFF of their front foot so you can get a SHORT BALL. (You’re supposed to beplaying for SHORT BALLS not opponent errors.) You’re also approaching crosscourt too much. The problem with this is you can’t cover the volley. Approaching up the middle is a no no because you must get your opponent moving hard to ONE side so they don’t set up to pass you. Your serve is REALLY good. Work on slice and placement. Also very important: Accelerate your split step on returns! Your job as a returner in singles is to get your return in the BACK BOX to neutralize the server. Accelerating the split step will do that because you can just go to the contact point. Great job keep going!!! --ExATPpro

I have a few points you could improve. 1. Don‘t rush to the net to often because it becomes predictable + it‘s very risky especially at big points. You need a good approach shot most of the times to close out the point with 1 or 2 volleys. 2. I realised that you often played the ball into the middle of the court when your opponent was serving which of course gives him the chance to dictate the play and the points. If possible, I would change that a little bit (play to his backhand or forehand corner). 3. I think, you could have pushed his backhand more because he wasn‘t going to do a winner with his backhand from the baseline (except some passing shots). But overall, well played, good first serve, good volleys and also many good approaches at the net. I enjoyed watching your match 🔥😃

I would say your problems are mentally and of tactical nature. It seems like you struggle after winning the first set/problems with tiebreaks. The reason could be that in your head you are already thinking that you won the match and do less. When it comes to tiebreaks and your game in general, you should do an analysis on how you loose and win your points. Especially in tiebreaks, every point counts. Unforced errors are really killing people in tiebreaks. If that is your problem, try to play with less risk/higher margin for error. When it comes to tactics, I noticed two things. First was that you didn´t go for his backhand which was clearly his weaker groundstroke. Trying to initiate backhand cross rallies would be a good idea, because either he plays them (and will probably loose more, as his is weaker), plays inside out forehand (making him work more and making it easier for you to get him into a position where you can dominate), or he directly goes for the longline to your forehand/the middle (giving you a good angle for the following shot. Again he has to run more).The second thing is when defending, sometimes you kept playing cross balls instead of playing hitting them long, and into the middle. This reduces the angles he has, making it easier for him to dominate. In general you should work on your length, cause often your balls land about one foot behind the T. Would also recommend you to do some work with your data. See how many unforced errors, winners and so on. This allows your to change your game accordingly. Also sorry for any mistakes in the text. I´m not a native speaking person

I think you could have won from the very first minute just by focusing on one and only thing, placement to his bh... Too many serves to his fh, too many passive short shots from neutral situations to his fh. You wanted to play aggro, but what you really did was just serving hard and occasional running to net after weak approach shot. I would mix in some kick serve to bh and volley combos too.
@miguelloir
@miguelloir 2 жыл бұрын
It's a pity Felix, in my opinion I think you hitted to many shots to his drive, when his weaker shot was clearly his backhand, where he couldn't generate too much danger. If you had gone to his bh more consistently, trying to hit deep balls there, the chances to dominate with your forehand would have been more. Anyways, keep trying and improving, you can! 💪

I noticed that you said you were going to pepper his 1H backhand, but the highlights didn't really reflect that. His BH doesn't look too dangerous, like in 7:15 he's just happy to rally but then he attacks with his FH. Great effort though, love the content and good luck for the next match.

Great job Felix! Awesome to see the progression you are making. Anytime Liam got to the middle of the court vertically he was dangerous. He has a great touch on those volleys. When you pushed him back to the baseline, it was giving you a lot of options and winning you more points. I wonder if you have anyone going through the videos and doing a statistical analysis of where you were at when you won points in a match vs lost them. You may want to see if someone on Fiverr will do something like that (basically have them watch every part of the original sets, create quadrants on the court, and count each and every hit both you and your opponent made) - I figure the more info you have, the better you can gameplan - just a thought.

I really like your attitude, I think the next thing you can work on is relax a bit, focus your mind but relax your body, your movement and muscle are too tight, making alot of extra moves, the motion is not smooth enough, you are very focus on every hit but you need to relax and have more prediction, thinking few hits ahead. Your current win condition is having better hitting than your opponent, and having a better mind, having prediction, out playing your opponent will be your next level. Everything is immportant but at the end skills and playing smarter goes before hard work and effort.

That was a great game plan, BUT you need a plan B for those points where you have to stay back. Not only to make your share of those, but also to not have undue pressure and come at the net against your better judgement. For example his forehand was solid when he had time, the run-of-the-mill rally forehand, but was degraded when he had to move more than 5 yards to get there. How about solid rallies on the backhand and short crosscourt every other short ball--alternating with your deep down-the-line approaches?

Nice match, i think you could just keep all points in cut like these. Now missing a lot of 1-2 shot points which can be crucial to see the gameplans. Overall very nice net play, towards the end could see the lack of confidence in the rally though, a few weak approaches with easy passing shots for him. You often see an aggressive player loosing up a bit towards up the end, losing a bit of power and then getting into trouble. That seemed to happen here. Good luck on your next match!

Your opponent was very consistent on the baseline. Moreover, he was playing so comfortable in the second set, so he was really confident in the super tie. Concerning you, I really like your style, being agressive. The ball which you rised when you were losing 2-0 in the tie-break from the first set was amazing. You got to change the influence of this set and won it

At 3 3, 15/0 you had amazing strokes, and then you hit the forehand cross court and came to the net. This is perfect example of wrong anticipation. It is better to take the next shot earlier instead of coming to the net after hitting to your oponent's forehand, because it will still take a way the time from your oponent. If you hit to your oponent's backhand then yes it is of course good idea to come to the net. Keep fighting and keep trying you will achieve your goal. Full respect for going after your goal.

That's actually a pretty productive for you; seems like your general level was up there with that guy this time where was he was a good bit ahead of you before and given where he's ranked that's a really! As my coach told me recently focus on working hard and improving game and let the results take care of themselves! (Mine haven't as yet but hopefully in time)!

I'm not sure I liked the 2 backhand approach shots at the end of the match, I think they could have been forehands, especially the match point one. Bad luck man, you were playing so beautifully in the first set. Tennis is so brutal.

Your definitely in the right place to go pro being in England. First of all the amount of high level adult tournaments there is way more than in my country. Also England is very close to most countrys where u will compete in the futures. This is a big advantage being close to home most players go away for a year at a time to go pro as I am from newzealand. I remember watching you as a junior we were around a similar level but honestly now you’d beat me comfortably with all this hard work you’ve put in.

Great macht and effort! I think your game plan was correct for this opponent. I don’t know if it was some kind of concentration problem or a small lack of stamina: if you compare the times you came into the net in the first set and then in the tiebreak, it looks like in the end you just always rushed forward also without a proper attacking shot beforehand to set up your approach to the net. You did this way better in the first set! All the best for your way, keep up the good work and keep improving. :)

You've got yourself another Serbia fan ;) great match, the only thing I believe you struggled with is the mental switch from the general "game" pattern to tiebreak pattern - mught be off the mark here, just my opinion

really wish you would've attacked his backhand a lot more but you were in it till the very end. I know you were trying to play aggressive points in the last tie breaker, but some of those approach shots felt rushed and you probably could've waited for a better opportunities to come the net. It's not going to be long before you get that ATP point!

your serve has improved a massive amount and is a real weapon now, well done. Really like how you were pressing coming to the net but sometimes you were coming in on 'hospital balls' and gave your opponent an easy target. Just be a wee bit more picky about when you come to net, try not to approach on cross-court shots as it gives your opponent an easy pass. Another brilliant match, well done Felix!

You are risking with the forehand,do the same with your backhand,but go cross,not middle or half down the line,risk the. Backhand,and you will be eating these opponents

I think the same thing with the last 3rd set tiebraker that you rush to net with soft and not accurate approaching shots. It feels like you want to lose those games when you choose again the same strategy (Rush to net from every time you hit inside baseline and hope that opponent can't hit ball with 2 meter margin). The points show in videos you are winning about 20 % of the net points in those tiebrakers. That is some statistics that you should calculate and analyse yourself. There is nothing wrong to be offensive and try come to the net but if your nerves cannot let you hit good approaching shots in the 3rd tiebraker don't do it :) I think it is more crucial to learn how to win the games rather than playing specific style of tennis. I think you have already read the book Winning Ugly. There are some good thoughts how not to lose those important points or tiebrakers.

ur very fastg at scrambling so you have the speed and fitness, yet ur often a bit lazy with your footwork on the regular balls. so you get defensive quickly. one step quicker to those defense balls and you can apply pressure. this match would be over in straight sets

amazing playing. But sometimes the approach shots you're behind the service line when you hit the volley and he's setup for the pass, not even on the run. I serve and volley and this is a recipe for disaster. But again amazing playing, there's great improvement even from the previous matches.

In addition at 5 5 15/15 you defended really well even that you lost that point, and then you got some easier point by hitting winner in the same game. This is perfect example where your oponent has to work hard to win a point while you get to win point easier due to your agressive shots and weapon. This really breaks players mentally.

Really good play from both, i think your serve is in a really good place right now. I have the feeling that towards the end of the match, the other guy was confident with his guessing and reading your point plan, it could be a good thing for next match to take like a mini pause before hitting the ball to see where the opponent makes the bet to go and play the other side, specially when you are at the net finishing the point with a drop shot. I also get the feeling that you were in sort of a rush in the tiebreak? In the first set I saw that you were doing pretty well in long rallies and he did not make a lot of damage while hitting his one handed backhand, maybe that could have been a good point to take into account for playing the tiebreak. Again, your progression is inspiring and you just keep getting better and better. Wish you the best, let's go!!!!!

hey i've been watching your videos for quite a while, I'm not sure if this really helps. i can't help but notice that often in games you dominate in the start of your first set and start leading then but towards the later stages of your match, you start to lose your edge over the opponent. i suggest that you can try working on stamina and being able to play the elite level you always show at the start of the game. i know it is easier said than done but all in all, your performance was superb. Cheers mate, love your content. would be super if i had the chance to play and learn from you.

That was a very good match even tho you lost. 1 thing I don’t get why you do so much; why do you come to the net so often, like i get that points from the baseline we’re long and tiring but there were balls that were easy for him to pass you. In my opinion even tho you played a great match is to not come at the net almost every point. Anyways great match man keep doing what you are doing🔥🔥

Good stuff, pretty crazy that 1 win isn't enough to get any cash. I feel like you got tight in the first tie break and stopped going into the net. This continued abit into the 2nd set from the looks of the highlights. Once he got the break in the 2nd set, he got his confidence back and you dominated less at the net thereafter. Also ball @5:47 looked out

Entertaining match. In the 3rd set you rushed too much. Instead of attacking the net at bad moments try to play the percentages better. Hit deep and wait for the short ball to attack. Hit deep and that will open the angles up more or the drop shot. Good Luck in the future.
