This is my skincare routine incorporating Tretinoin . I've seriously scaled down this routine to make it as simple as possible for myself and to allow the Tretinoin to work at it's most efficient. During the morning routine I applied a cocktail of products to my face from The Ordinary. I applied slightly too much of this. The correct amounts are listed below. If you apply too much of any one product from The Ordinary it can pill under SPF or makeup. Make sure you allow 5 minutes for the products to properly absorb before applying SPF.
MORNING ROUTINE
BARE MINERALS Oil Obsessed Oil Cleanser - £22/$30
THE ORDINARY Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% - 2 drops - £5/$5.90
THE ORDINARY Buffet - 2 drops - £12.50/$14.90
TEMPLE SPA Windows Of The Soul Eye Cream - £30/$40
LA ROCHE-POSAY Anthelios Ultra Light SPF 50+ (quarter tsp) - £17.50
EVENING ROUTINE
BARE MINERALS Oil Obsessed Oil Cleanser - £22/$30
DERMATICA TRETINOIN 0.025%, 0.05%, 0.1% - £20
UK - dermati.ca/08x
US - dermati.ca/mek
All new patients will receive their first month's personalised treatment free.

NO7 Protect&Perfect Eye Cream - £18/$21.99
CERAVE Moisturising Lotion - £9/$12.99
JEWELLERY
I’m not sure you’ll have noticed my beautiful bracelet that was sent to me by a company called Ana Luisa. I NEVER take it off. It’s sterling silver with a cross dangling from the chain. I LOVE IT. Why not check out the rest of their collection

Jenna, by far, you have yue best presentation style, of any skincare guru on YT. You're quick, precise, you come up with useful, not so repetitive content, and you're more knowledgeable about skincare. Any tip I've ever picked up from you, was an asset to my regimen. You don't natter on aimlessly, taking fifteen minutes, just to get to the point. We are lucky to have you Jenna. Thank you for your time and effort.

Thank you, thank you! Finally someone who provided a simple tutorial on how to make the most of a skincare routine with Tretinoin! My dermatologist here in the US just basically wrote the prescription and and wished me luck. I am super excited to try out this routine for the next few months and see if I'm finally able to get some decent results.

At least your dermatologist wished you luck, mine just told me that it would dry the skin, on asking If I Could use a moisturizer on top he then said that if it’s too dry then to layer it with a moisturizer after an hour, never warned me about, flaking, peeling, irritation or burning sensations on using it. It’s been a month now and I’m still facing some irritation around my nose and mouth area though using it every 3 days alternating with glycolic acid micro-peeling emollient... wondering If I should discontinue and take a break to calm things down and stop the continuous peeling.

Oh my, so glad I watched this! I just discovered The Ordinary and am obsessed with the niacinamide and buffet! I’ve only been using them a couple of weeks but until now I was applying 5 drops of each on my face and another 5 drops of each on my neck and chest morning and most nights (waiting a couple of minutes between each). They say you only need 3-4 drops but it never seemed enough. Mixing them just never even occurred to me lol. Now I put 3 of each for both areas which saves me time AND money since both bottles will now last that much longer! You’re awesome, thanks!

You're thorough guidance on how to use tretanoin safely is awesome. I've been on it quite a while and would never use it on damp skin. Goodness knows if it causes damage to the lower epidermis (which wouldn't be obvious for some time). I'm just not brave enough I guess. The UK you Gemma, ❤💕❤💕❤💕❤

I just started using tretinoin, clindamycin, benzoyl peroxide face wash and CeraVe moisturizer 12 days ago. I’m suffering from adult acne because I had a bad reaction to an antibiotic so I finally went to a dermatologist. It’s been so bad, I started crying. I can see a difference but oh my god the peeling is driving me nuts. My skin is very sensitive too. I want to incorporate The Ordinary’s niacinamide, like I used before, but I’m afraid it’s too soon. Such good info. Thank you!

Your skin care routine is very similar to mine :) except instead of Niacinamide in the a.m, I use NIOD's multi-molecular hyaluronic acid. At 52, I need the moisture boost!! Mixed with Buffet, it makes for a great base. I love Cerave products as well and recommend 'Cerave pm' moisturiser. Have a read of Paula's choice for some of the myths around using retinol/ Vit A. She says that it absolutely can be used with BHA/ AHA, in fact they both increase each other's effectiveness. Vitamin A is /not/ an exfoliant.
@PamperedWolf
@PamperedWolf 5 жыл бұрын
Vitamin A is an antioxidant with exfoliating properties as it makes the skin cells turn over much faster. I agree with Paula and I love her. But Tretinoin is a very high strength Vitamin A with very irritating properties if mixed with anything like AHA or BHA. There are different levels. An over the counter product from Paula's Choice 1% retinol etc, is not as potent and therefore can be mixed with caution. Mixing AHA and BHA with Tretinoin though is a big no no xxx

This is a very interesting video, I had not hear of many of these products until I found your channel. I have to admit that I find some of the products quite scary, but have been using the Buffet/Niacinimide/Matrixyl combination in the mornings, I find they make my skin feel very tacky for at least 30mins. The Tretinoin scares the pants off me, it sounds very harsh, and I wonder why it has suddenly become so 'Trendy'. Perhaps I have just not been paying attention. What does your Mum think of this product? 😊

Do you know of any service like Dermatica in the US? Also, I have lost count of how many people I have given your information to concerning your "Six Ingredients" video, as well as other skin care videos. I have literally met someone at my hair salon who commented on how nice my skin was... and I ended up emailing her the links to your videos! I wanted to share some information for those who cannot use the Buffet or Matrixyl. I get red bumps from both of these, but my skin does handle both vitamin C and acids. In the mornings, I mix The Ordinary's L-Ascorbic acid powder with an aloe vera/vitamin E product. Then I use the Lactic acid 10%. I have also found a way to use The Ordinary's Hyaluronic acid serum. I apply just 2-3 drops to a wet face (right after my 2nd cleanse with the Cerave moisturizing cleanser), rub it in well, then wait at 5 minutes or more to continue. I have 57 year old skin that really needs the moisture! At night I use this again with The Ordinary's Niacinamide serum and the Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion. I have been using the Elf Illuminating eye cream with great success for 2 years! It is on sale right now at Ulta for $6, vs. the $10 regular price!

You commented that you thought it was quite expensive and probably wouldnt purchase it again( because wasiting money on a high end cleanser that get rinsed off is pointless)! You raved about Cerave cleanser....so i purchased that! You also posted a video recently about another brand.." better than the ordinary"... i am so confused! Are the products i am using good enough?

I use buffet serum before using Retin A. It is easy to spread retin A on a moist skin. Also I mix my 0.05 retin A with the ordinary retinol 2% emulsion. I like this retinol from the ordinary and I can’t stop use it even though I use 0.05 retin A. Some people use 0.1 retin A which is the strongest, so combining a retin A with the retinol is not wrong. Together they give a moist effect to the skin.
@PamperedWolf
@PamperedWolf 5 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to say this but you're totally wrong here. Combining two totally different vitamin A derivative products can cause major damage to the skin, not just on the surface, but deeper into the skin. Any dermatologist will tell you the same thing xxx

Great video! What do you think of Caycay oil, and Marula oil? I use glycolic acid in the am , and retin a in the evening. As well as cerave moisturizer both morning and night. Do you have an opinion on glycolic acid as well?
@PamperedWolf
@PamperedWolf 5 жыл бұрын
I personally wouldn't use glycolic acid and retinol-A on the same day, however, every skin is different. On the day I filmed this (I used my tretinoin in the morning...just so I could use it in the video) I forgot I had already used tretinoin in the AM, and used my peeling solution at night. My face was so flaky in the morning. It's still recovering. But this obviously also depends on the strength of the tretinoin and the glycolic acid. Although I would never combine these ingredients in the same 24 hour period, if you have been combining with no side effects, then continue xxx

Hey you know what I was thinking about for tretinoin; for the painful dry stage, snail mucin; its supposed to be extremely hydrating and soothing, for your skin. I'm gonna grab some of that CosRx snail mucin; just for the painful dry period. I'm just starting Retin A Micro; and for some reason, keep clicking onto horror stories about using it. Vit A overdoing, death, liver failure, kidney damage; all from a TOPICAL!? Its unreal; but, eerily, all true. But I paid 160 to see a dermatologist, just to get the script, so I'm damned well using it! Another good moisturizer is the Aveeno Cica ointment; amazing for dry skin. Wish me luck!

It's a common myth that not using sunscreen on daytime will cancel out the benefits of tretinoin if you're just using it at night not unless you know that you'll be expose to sunlight for longer time during the day then you definitely need a sunscreen (tretinoin/non tretinoin users). I'm just biased because I hate the feel of sunscreen on my face ughh

Since I started tretinoin cerave hydratating cleanser and their mosturizer started to sting. Anyone else? Thoughts?
@PamperedWolf
@PamperedWolf 4 жыл бұрын
Sometimes our protective skin barrier can become slightly damaged with tretinoin due to the fast turnover in skin cell production. CeraVe has lots of great ceramides in that help repair that barrier, however this can sometimes sting a bit. If the stinging lasts for more than 10 seconds, or is unbearable, then discontinue use. xxx

Australian Gold Tinted Botanical sunscreen. It does not burn my eyes which is why I use it. It's a mineral sunscreen, SPF 50. CeraVe hydrating sunscreen has hyaluronic acid, 3 essential ceramides, niacinamide. SPF 50. I think CeraVe has the best line for lotions and moisturizers I have ever found. I can buy them from my drugstore and they do not bust my wallet. If it was not for my CeraVe skin renewing night cream I could not use my Retin-A. At my local Walmart my 1.7 ounce jar of CeraVe skin renewing night cream is $13.98.

Your routine is very unusual, I have so many questions! What I was taught previously - morning: If the oil cleanser is not washed off by a second wash, the oil residue will stay on the skin (oil cannot be 100% washed off by water) and will form a barrier which will keep the serums from pentrating effectively. Please help me understand your method. Secondly, after the serums, you apply no occlusive moisturizer, which according to my learning, will cause transepidermal waterloss through the day. As you seem to know exactly what you're doing, you must have given this a lot of thought, please share your reasons, I'd love to learn from you.
@PamperedWolf
@PamperedWolf 5 жыл бұрын
If you emulsify the oil correctly there will not be enough residue left on the skin to hinder product penetration in any way. I don't apply a moisturiser after the serums as the SPF I use also has moisturising properties that will lock in the serum. If my skin is overly dry I will also use a moisturiser before spf, but that is very rare. xxx

I'm replying a bit late but hey! It's best to avoid mixing products, especially with tret. The reason we try to keep things separate is because when you mix the two products, you may not mix it well enough so some parts of it will be more tret-dense and other parts will be moisturizer-heavy. This causes an issue because when applying this "DIY mixture", you aren't getting an even spread or full coverage. Certain spots may have more tret while other areas of skin will have less so it's better to use the products separately. However, if you have already done it and it works for you, then go you! May I ask, did you experience any side effects when you first started tret? I'm getting mine next week and I'm so afraid of what's to come.
