Gemma, I have always said that your video explaining the products you use from The Ordinary is the best of its kind on youtube. Now you have done it AGAIN! I use quite a few of their products that I have broken down into three skin care routines, vitamin C, acids and retinol. My favorite products are 1. L-ascorbic acid: vitamin C in powdered form that I can mix with other serums. Thus eliminating the unstable nature of already combined vitamin C products 2. AHA/BHA mask: I can see a visible brightening when I use this product! I have not explored the EGF as my skin is doing so well that I have stopped wearing a full face of makeup everyday! I guess I need to look into it!! Thank you SO much for this channel and your hard work!! P.S. I just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear about the death of Brandon Truaxe, developer of The Ordinary line as well as the brand Deciem. It is a sad story that happens too often to those struggling with mental health issues. I just hope the company will continue his work and his commitment to affordable skin care!

Hi patti 1962. I love the sound of a bha/aha mask. Im a little sensitive to leave on aha's so a mask sounds perfect. Do you have any product recommendations? I have slightly dry, combo skin.
@Patti-1962
@Patti-1962 5 жыл бұрын
@@SarahMelbourne23 The mask is the most "potent" product I have used from The Ordinary, but the results are amazing. I listed a few if the products I have, but here are the others. Caffeine eye serum Glycolic Toner Lactic Acid 10% Argireline Hyaluronic Acid Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution (I add the vit. C powder to make it stronger) Granactive Retinoid Emulsion 2% Natural Moisturizing Factors (a wonderful light day cream) I have tried several of the oils, but I have normal skin... so they were just too heavy. Like I said in my comment to Gemma, I break these products into three routines. I alternate the vit. C and acid routines for the morning, using the retinol at night. I use a primer during the day that has SPF 30. My skin has never looked better! There are some great articles online that talk about how to layer these products.

A quick summary. This video is awesome! I love her explanation. 1. Moisture and hydration. Hyaluronic acid is a must. 2. Peptides. It helps to produce collagen. 3. Antioxidants. Her personal favorites are vitamin C serum/cream and retinol. 4. Exfoliants (not scrubs). Chemical exfoliation. AHA & BHA 5. EGF, Grow factors. It is extremely expensive. 6. Sun screen. A must. The most important. High SPF.

Thank you for a good rundown. As a chemist with a hobby in skin care, I already knew all of this, but I enjoy your videos, and I am glad you have managed to make this easy for laymen and -women to understand! One aside which may make you happy - South Korean cosmetics also use bacterially cultured (non-foreskin-derived) EGF and they are a lot more affordable than Western cosmetics containing it. There are several brands available even in Europe, and obviously a lot more can be ordered online.

If you go to The Ordinary website there's a place where you can put in your skin care needs and problems and they will get back to you with recommendations from their product line. I did this and was impressed at the number of products they DID NOT try to sell me as well as the performance of those they recommended I buy. I'm 74 so I know when a product is helping me or not. That said, most folks don't realize you have to use these products for MONTHS before you really see if they are making a difference or not. Also, be aware that the most effective thing you can do for your skin is to use prescription strength Retin A. No skin care product....None... does as much to help every skin regardless of the problem because Retin A helps build new skin cells to replace damaged ones. At least that's what doctors and biochemists ALL SAY in the research literature. I use Trentinoin .1% which is the STRONGEST you can get. Your doctor will likely start you lower and let you build up. It really is a KEY anti-aging ingredient that makes a real difference.

Sat here with all my facial products (some of which you have mentioned by classification) wondering which order to layer them all in. Shall look for your updates on your actual regime with interest. Looking forward to the "ping" of a notification of a new video from you. Thanks for doing so much research on each element of skin care. You made things easier to understand...realise now how much I've probably missed out on. Because everything can cost oodles of money, are there any elements which are more essential and others that financially could be skipped?

You generally go from thinnest to thickest. So for example I do a toner, then serum, eyecream, moisturizer, and finally a facial oil. You layer from thinnest to thickest because the thinner products will sink in easier if they don't have to absorb through thicker products.

Hi Claire. A video on layering products will be uploaded shortly. In answer to the order of products, you apply serums, creams then oils. Oils can penetrate creams but creams can't penetrate oils. During this years skincare series we'll look into high end and drugstore options for skincare. The Ordinary is amazing for cheap products that work. Peptide serums are quite cheap from The Ordinary. If you can I would invest in a good retinol, and buy a cheaper hydrating moisturising cream. SPF is a non-negotiable. EGF is the only one which I would say due to the cost this can be difficult to include. xxx

Thanks for great video. One question do you use all these things on top of each other and everyday? I'm 47 and my secret weapon is EGF SERUM ..... it is AMAZING. people always comment on how wonderful my skin is and it's down to this (mind you I've never sunbathed always wear 50+ block and don't drink tea or coffee just gallons of hot water every day) but this stuff is AMAZING. I tried it just on my mum over night (she's 66) and the next day you can start to see the difference, I cannot recommend this enough. The Scandinavian woman have been using this for decades, which is why they looks so amazing. It is very expensive £100 for 15ml but you only need two drops and it does the whole face. I use BIO EFFECT brand and I will share a little secret with all the other "wolflettes" QVC uk sell it and often have it on offer either £79 or if it's full price they sometimes do three easy payments spread across three months which is way more manageable AND don't forget you get a 30 day money back guarantee so you can use it every day for 30days and you don't need a reason you can just return it for a full refund (but you don't get the p&p back which is a whopping £4.95) also sell revitalash (the miracle eyelash grower) and I think they extend the money back guarantee for six weeks so you can really give it a proper test. Another cheaper way to get it is on a virgin airways plane. My sister goes to the states a lot and you can preorder this online and they deliver it to your seat when you fly out AND for £100 you not only get the full size bottle but they throw in a mini 5ml bottle for free which is worth at least £35! Hope that helps, loving your work pampered wolf #gulitypleasure 😘

This product sounds great. I hope i can order it from australia? When do you use the serum? At night? Do you use a retinol over the top? Also im 32, is growth factors something to get into in my 40s? Or should i be doing it now? Ive heard from some dermatologists that with growth factors, your skin can get 'sleepy' and stop making as much collagen, because the product is doing it for you??? I dont know if thats true or not. Like, at 32yrs old, is my skin going to see any 'results' from using it?

Left of Common - there was a lot of commotion about this product about 10 years ago with scientists saying things like that, but there are only 4 natural elements in it. If you listen to pampered wolfs explanation on it you will see the sooner you use it the better. I use it at night only on freshly cleansed skin. I don't put anything on top - probably not ideal, but I'm hoping she will do a video on layering.hope it helps x

Hi Gemma, I really loved this tutorial, it has a lot of information women need for making and looking their best when it comes to their skin. I found this video very informative although I use almost all these products except for the epidermal growth factor. I've never even heard of it. I 've started using a cell renewal oil on my face at night, which I don't know much about it but what the name says, cell renewal. Could you please give me some info on the cell renewal oil or cream? I would love to know what you think about this product. The way you explain how each skincare product works makes it so much easier to understand than using all the medical jargon. I started using skincare products a couple years ago, I am now going on 58. I know I should've started long ago but I waited for my first wrinkle to start using them. Wish I would've started in my 20's. Have a great day!

Creams like that have ingredients in that stimulate cell renewal. It may be a cream that combines antioxidants with some peptides and ceramides. xxx

I’m 60 plus a year or two! I’ve always used sunscreen and moisturiser with a foundation/bb cream, and I avoid the sun. I’ve been complemented many times that I look around 40, BUT my eyes are very wrinkly and have eye bags and dark shadows, mostly hereditary, and also due to wearing contact lenses for 20 years - they damaged the surface of my eyes and gave me a dry eye condition, hence a lot of squinting! I am long sighted and wear glasses now, but as my eyes (and bags) are magnified by the glasses, l am wondering what I can use to counteract/ improve the skin around my eyes, if these creams mentioned in your video are so good, what should I look for in an eye cream? Plus for sensitive skin? I would love a video to help all us aged (but fit) old crones!! Great video, will take some notes shopping with me, but will look for ones in the cheaper end of the spectrum.

I would look for a cream rich in ceramides and peptides. That should do the trick. It's difficult to recommend just one cream for you without seeing you in person. Caffeine solution is excellent fo reducing puffiness, but it can also be quite drying. Oils are excellent. xxx

Thanks for the help. I’ve been looking around with those ingredients in mind, but it’s all very confusing! There are so many with one or two of the ingredients, but I can’t seem to find one with the three you said I should look for! My skin tends to be on the dry side, and can be sensitive around my eyes, have you any recommendations of the ingredients I should look for?( or even a particular couple of products!)

Hi Gemma. This is the video we've been waiting for! Absolutely excellent! I have so many questions about spf in skin care routine though! 1. Do you need separate sunscreen if moisturisers and foundation have spf value? 2. If you do need a separate one what spf does it need to be? 3. If you need a separate one what are your recommendations for use on oily skin 4. If you need a separate one, when do you apply, after serum and moisturiser or before? Would love to see a video on this. Thanks Gemma you are a star x

Hi Fiona. I guess it depends whether you live in a sunny country. If so I would always overdo the sunscreen rather than apply too little. I like mineral sunscreens so I can keep applying them throughout the day topping up the protection. I will definitely do a whole video on SPF xxx

Makeup Artist Choice is a small company I’ve been purchasing skin care products from since the 1990’s. Their products are cutting edge too with the scientific facts to back up their claims. They have a sample size of EGF serum for $25.00. I recently purchased from them and I’m anxious to try it. They have great frequent sales on all products I sign up for their email announcements. Like Gemma said it’s an expensive product but if you wait for a sale for 33% or more it’s not as painful😊

Very interesting. Can't wait for your update covering EGFs. Seems a technically very complicated and controversial area. Bioeffect, Skinmedica (banned in the EU?), Anteage ...all pricey and with competing claims not just on results but on safety. Thanks in anticipation.
