I was on in 1967 (Fox's last year as host), a neighbor of ours worked at WNEW and got a ticket for me.

You are so welcomed. Sonny and I became friends and I LOVED him dearly. I was on his show numerous times and in my young adult life was an intern at Channel 5 WNEW because of him.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful tribute to the fourth and most beloved host of"Wonderama"..Sonny Fox..Jerry. And where ever you are..Sonny..Thanks for giving us all 8 1/2 great years of "Wonderama!".
@jerryalicea88973 жыл бұрын
just as a point of correction...Sonny was the second person to host Wonderama. Sandy Becker was the original host.
@kevinbutler1955NYC3 жыл бұрын
No..Jerry..The second host to mc "Wonderama"after Sandy Becker left was Herb Sheldon..he hosted the show for three years..then..Bill Britten hosted the series for the remainder of the 1958 tv season(Bill was also the first host of "Wonderama"to pre-tape the show on Thursday Afternoons for Sunday Morning Broadcasts)..then Sonny Fox hosted the show for 8 1/2 years and Bob McAllister did the program for ten years.

@@kevinbutler1955NYC - I stand corrected. You are absolutely right. It was Herb Sheldon followed by one of my teachers at the High School for the Performing Arts, Bill Britten who was Bozo the Clown. Thank you for clarifying this for me. To me Sonny Fox really was the best of all the hosts. I never liked the guy who took over after him, with his Kids Are People Too !

Amazing tribute to a real Brooklyn boy, WW11 hero, and a guy who never talked down to kids…and a true advocate of children’s programming. He lived well into his 90s and was still giving seminars on improving television for the young… Where can I pick up that version of the Wonderama theme ( from the Unsinkable Molly Brown )?

I've been wondering for years if there are any clips left of his other show, "Just For Fun" out there somewhere? Anyway, thanks for this wonderful tribute. Sonny was one of my childhood favorites along with Sandy Becker and Chuck McCann.

I LOVED Sonny and knew Sandy Becker, Fred Scott and Soupy Sales having grown up around WNEW tv Channel 5 and later in my years being an intern at the station. I was on the pilot of Just For Fun at Sonny's invitation. It was a cool show but it was never as popular as Wonderama.

What was it like to work with Sonny on the pilot for"Just For Fun"..Jerry Alicea?

Regarding your mention of Chuck McCann...my dad gave a chance to meet him at WNEW when he was doing Bombo’s magic and cartoon show What a sweet man he was TOTALLY unaffected by his stardom After the show was over he and his partner on the show took us out for lunch A LIFETIME OF MEMORIES

I was a joke teller on the show with Sonny Fox is there no a way to look for that video
@jerryalicea88972 жыл бұрын
Regrettably almost all of the video tapes that were used to record the shows were taped over and eventually discarded, so most of the shows are lost forever. I was on numerous times and all of those are gone, so I feel your pain.

I would love to see the "Wonderama"joke telling segment,,where a boy tried to tell Sonny his joke..in Greek(unaware that his mom had given to Sonny the punch line to her son's joke in advance).

@@jerryalicea8897And that’s exactly what happened with Paul Winchell and HIS shows. Metromedia Inc. destroyed the master videotapes and Mr. Winchell sued them in court for millions of dollars.

What a wonderful time in history when boys were boys and girls were girls….and dressed up for their first time on television. What’s happened?
