***** About Venison for Dinner *****
Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family- Kate and Marius plus our five kids, have always enjoyed living a homemade life whenever possible. Moving 1000 miles north in 2017 to Northern BC, Canada upped our game even more. We live on a 34 acre homestead and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables. Theres plenty of failures, you’ll be sure to see those here too. We’re a homeschooling family who believes life is the best teacher but we do hit the books in winter. I’m so glad you’re here, I hope you stick around!
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

I enjoyed the frustrated banter while treating your poor cow. That so would've been my husband and I. Thanks for yet another glimpse into your real, unfiltered life. I appreciate it and it is why I am bingeing all of your old videos.

I just wanted to tell you THANK YOU for sharing this, for sharing all the things you do. I'm new to ruminants, just had my first goat give birth and her personality changed pretty seriously, from very sweet and mean and aggressive. She fell oddly a few times, bad poop, generally being strange. I chalked it up to hormones and new experiences. But watching this video I had a lightbulb moment - we suspect that our area is very low in magnesium already and she fit ALL the signs just very very early. We gave extra mag supplements to all the goats, and by the next day she was calmer, and today she was a FREAKING ANGEL and back to herself. I cried in relief. Thank you SO much, if we hadn't known this we might have lost her.

Was fascinated to see your purchase of comfrey! What do you use it for? I grew it for years because it was such a striking plant and later flowered. Had a hard time keeping it in my garden because my dogs loved eating the leaves! It was their favorite treat. Always found a few ‘hairy green leaves’ stuck in their fur. Someone cautioned me it was toxic to the liver. My dogs lived a long time. 🤷‍♀️ Unfortunately, I was new to gardening and computers were not invented yet, so I was never able to use it. I believe the “health food stores /hippies” (haha) at that time suggested I make a tea. Thx for the fond memories of a garden long ago!

We run beef cows and due to the drought last year and there not being any old grass left out in the pasture and then the new grass coming super quick now grass tetany is something that's everyone is watching out for and adding a free choice magnesium supplement alongside their regular salt and minerals to try to prevent.

I'm on my third hatching of chicks this spring and this time I'm doing some Icelandic chickens to put into my flock. Apparently they are very hearty for our area which is the high desert. There is also some silkie eggs in there cause my girls sell them to make a little money for the summer. 😄

I hope clover is good as new! I'm super impressed on your iv and magnet skills. I've got the iv kit, but have never actually done one. I've also got magnets hanging out on my fridge that I'm afraid to put in. We got our cow when she was 3 and I don't know if she was ever given a magnet. Do you know how to check if they have one? Or does it not matter if you end up with 2 in?
