@@SunriseLAW The rear tire sitting & spinning on the rollers on the ground pull on the vehicle frame. Since the rollers are on the ground rotating the opposite direction of forward tire rotation, the vehicle is pulled backwards. The front wheels are not being powered, merely just rolling backward. Furthermore, due to the rear axle having an "open" differential, both sides of the vehicle don't need his home-made roller/tow chain apparatus. IF the rear differential were a limited slip or locker, it would have to have both rear wheels riding on his gizmo. The vast majority of vehicles on the road do not have limited-slip or locking axle differentials. Hope that helped you to understand how this fella's invention works.

Reminds me of a car I owned that had no parking brake. My driveway was on a pretty steep incline, and the automatic transmission parking paw alone wouldn't hold it. So I cut a 4x4 block of wood into a wedge to put behind the tire and I attached it to an extending painters pole and kept it behind my driver side seat. Whenever I parked in my driveway or on a hill, I would just open the door, reach behind my seat to grab the pole, extend it, and put it behind the rear tire, all without ever getting out of the car.

Older driver's guides that you studied to get your driver's license said to turn your steering wheel in such a situation but to make sure the wheels are turned such that if it does roll back, it would steer off the road instead of into traffic. I guess cars used to be more problematic in the past.

IF the roller setup was only on one side then the assumption would have to be that the diff is open and the driver side roller has all the traction (and therefore none of the power output) for this to move the vehicle backwards (the driver side rear tire would not be driven by the diff which would be unlikely given the surface). I think this is what the OP is possibly referring to. But there IS a roller setup on the driver side also (the driver looks out to see if he is on it and you can slightly see it several times) so going backwards has nothing to do with the diff and everything to do with the fact that the rollers act as a reverse gear in the drivetrain.

I had that same Pathfinder. It had a cracked radiator and I drove it home redlining and smoking for 5 miles and a block from my house was road construction. So I had to wait another 20 mins. Never blew a gasket. Nothing. I changed the radiator and drove it for another 3 years. This was in 2015 so the truck was 20 years old. I paid $700 for it. Was still still running when I moved from West Coast to east Coast. Didn't want to drive it across the country, but was the greatest warhorse I ever had. Miss it every day.

@@evanb8495 A buddy of mine drove a Saturn that needed a starter for at least 2 years. He just parked on hills or pushed it to get it moving and popped it into gear. He had the money to fix it, he just didn't want to, it worked fine for him. It got totaled before he caved in and fixed it.
