Ironically, for a low tech system, this would really benefit from a computer to automatically adjust air/fuel ratios as the fuel quality fluctuates.

I've watched this guy for a few years. I have been completely off grid, in the woods, for the past 5 years and I have tried it all! Lot's of failures, I must say. But I have to admit, I admire this fella, he never gives up and always finds a way to perfect these alternative projects. After a couple months of curse words and tempertantrums, like a toddler, I usually move on to another simpler alternative. But this guy, nope, just keeps goin. Great job Sir! I've been watching the gasification movement for a few years now, and I love it!!! I wish it was more commercially available. You can run more than just cars with it, you can also run your entire home off of combustibles like wood and garbage. Amazing. I tried a small scale version of this technology and was able to run a lawn mower engine for several hours off of wood with zero gas. Again, an Amazing technology. In WWII it was used by the common man as a mode of electricity generation and vehicle conveyance in Europe due to fossil fuels being unavailable to regular people. It's a long proven technology both in principle and in practice.

About 30 years ago, there was a guy drove a Ford Thames with a trailer around Australia on directly produced gas generated in a wood burner. The gas producer was in the trailer. The later Australian Ford Thames vans were fitted with an Australian built six cylinder engine versus the original and dreadful V4. He would start it on petrol ( gasolene ) until the fire was drawing well then change over to the produced gas. If he found a shredded bandag off a truck tyre on the road, he would stop and ram that in for about a 25 mile free bonus. During WW2 when petrol rationing was full on, many automotive charcoal fueled gas producers were made and sold. I was told that the small four-cylinder engines were not much good with it but the big american sixes and straight eights ran well on it.
@pandarama675 жыл бұрын

@piedpiper70515 жыл бұрын
He said up top, it gets 1.5 miles to 1 lb. of wood, which is the accurate way to measure.
@ipure24 жыл бұрын
I know I'm a bit late to the party but something that may help you out with that idle is an EGR valve plumbed into a fuel bypass system and maybe a belt driven vacuum pump with the actuator attached to the throttle linkage to mimic low rpm so that when you are at closed throttle, you are allowing a higher amount of vacuum to affect the EGR valve. That EGR valve will open to dump the excess fuel gas through an air filter or just into the exhaust stream. It would be very easy to tune with an airflow regulator for the amount of vacuum applied at closed throttle. You could also put a glow plug in the exhaust stream to burn off the excess fuel gas. Just make sure it's upstream far enough to prevent throwing fire out of the tail pipe. It sounds fun on paper, but the last thing you want is to be too close to something flammable and start a fire.

It seems like the ultimate application for this set up would be a boat, wherein you could take advantage of the infinite cooling effect of the water. You need to build a newer version of the “African Queen!”
@Heikki_Finland6 жыл бұрын
There is more room in a boat for the system, spare wood and cargo, but there is no extra wood available off shore, so in that sense this fits better for a car. I like sailboats better anyway than motorized.

Where you at? Desert ofc...just can't tell which from the background. in SW AZ here The water tanks....not sure I'm clear on that part. (EDIT: Just noticed all the other step videos. Going to check them out). SUBSCRIBED! Somewhere I have a print out of the actual plans for a gasifier that were issued for use by the public in the UK during WW2. A shown example was basic compact enough to fit on a small tractor. I need to find them. Is for a simplistic build that is easy to remember but seeing the plans again would make it easier to streamline or improve on it. Unless I end up selling it...gto an old Toyota w/ one of first 22Rs that MIGHT potentially end up being a test vehicle for something like this...be more practical if had the long-bed though. From what I recall the setup had a hopper-like burner. Air came in the top and outlet near the bottom. The air//gas mix was then sent through an actual radiator...functions exactly like an intercooler since the gas is going to be quite hot. From there it would go through an air filter then directly down the throat of the engine...no carburetor. Throttle is controlled with a simple throttle plate. Could probably take a carb and remove everything above the throttle plate.

Gasification's great, after WW2 governments produced pamphlets on how to make these systems and many cars were converted like this. I really hope someone makes a simple DIY electronically regulated system for gasifiers, but Pyrolysis can make the fuel beforehand so that cars and generators can run on it as normal, and with all the cumbersome equipment kept stationery elsewhere it can be made large enough to supply ample fuel and power homes, and the resulting biochar can be buried to sequester carbon from the atmosphere while at the same time improving soil. Biocrude's made with plants and contains alcohols, and plastics and petrochemical products turn back into hydrocarbon fuels; one study found that pyrolysis of municipal waste alone would supply America with enough fuel to supply its demands. Solar energy storage is already installed Everywhere for free by nature in the form of plants, which forest fires demonstrate spectacularly, yet that goes unseen and is simply burned and buried; guess we can't see the fuel for the trees, nevermind the forest, so it's great to see attempts like this to raise awareness of that.
@indianasquatchunters5 жыл бұрын
