Never thought of using bacon in tuna hot dish (Amurrican for casserole) yet I love smoked fish, so bet it's delicious. So nice to see a recipe where you make your own Bechamel sauce. Americans like to use a can of condensed cream of mushroom soup in place of Bechamel. I love cream of mushroom soup, just not that gloopy salty tastes of can stuff.

Sometimes l like the tuna in oil, in a tuna noodle casserole…it adds to the richness of the sauce, especially if I’m out of butter! We had a lot of a recipe called, California Chicken, which was tuna, carrots, potatoes, onions, and crumbled shredded wheat, or triscuits (a cracker, l think it’s like a Weetabix!), when I was growing up. I’ll have to try to find the recipe….

@Adam_Garratt3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. What I would do though is portion it out at the point before you put it in the oven. Then when you want it, thaw it out, put in a dish, tope with cheese and bake it off. Once a pasta bake has been in the oven once, reheating it again isn't great. Just becomes a claggy mess.

@Adam_Garratt3 жыл бұрын
Oh you're in for a treat hun. Pancetta is a little like bacon but it's dried and cured for longer so it has a deeper flavour. It will give so much flavour to dishes. I sometimes put some fried pancetta in stews and casseroles, soups and pies. Once the fat goes crispy its a delight to eat. 😘

I just want you to know that I really did make this, and I really did make it while you were playing along in the background. I’m hungry and I’m pretty stinking broke. The last two years have been full of grief and loss and anxiety and depression and financial Fuckery. So I was sitting here watching your videos and I remembered that I had two cans of tuna and a part of a bag of noodles and butter and flour and pre-cooked bacon, American lol, And a good sized hunk of extra sharp cheddar. So I made this as fast as I could! I didn’t have any shallots or any extra vegetables to put into it, but I will say that I didn’t measure a damn thing for the bechamel and it was as smooth as any that I have ever made without even any whisking. I just threw in some butter and then literally threw in a handful of flour, thought it wasn’t enough, threw another one in there, and poured some n some of a container of almond milk that I had. I did have to add some salt because pre-cooked bacon is not as delicious as regular bacon. But it is in the oven right now with maybe 10 more minutes to go and I have already cleaned up the kitchen and the dog licked up the bit that I spilled on the floor so all I have to do now is anticipate some cheesy noodley tuna-y deliciousness and think about how grateful I am to have found you ❤❤❤

@Christopher.E.Souter3 жыл бұрын
Looks great, Adam! 👍🏻 😋 Just 3 questions: 1. How much tuna is in the dish? You haven't included it in your ingredients list. ☝️ 2. Of the huge number of Béchamel Sauce recipe videos that I've seen, the ones that seem to work best say " *HOT* roux + *COLD* milk, " and pour in all the milk at once. (I guess that's not really a question... more of a comment)... 🤭 3. Does your oven have a griller built in? My shitty electric cooker with almost uncontrollable solid hotplates, separate grill (which is too small, even with the grill pan removed), and an oven that is hardly big enough to take a decent-sized baking tray, is about the only thing that prevents me from making dishes like this, even though I already have most of the ingredients in the cupboard. 🤬 Nevertheless, a great video, mate. I always look forward to Sunday Night (Sydney, Australia), because I know that I'll be seeing yet another of your very enjoyable, entertaining, educational and uplifting videos. 👍🏻
@Adam_Garratt3 жыл бұрын
Awww thank you mate. Its a pleasure to provide you with content. In answer to your questions yes my oven has a grill, and it's just as crap as the oven. Ideally the perfect combo would be a fan assisted electric oven as they evenly bake, and a gas stove because you get much better heat control with gas hobs. Oh and as far as the tuna, thank you for spotting! I was doing the costings last night and I must have missed it off. So I've updated the ingredients list now for you. Have a great day/evening mate
@Christopher.E.Souter3 жыл бұрын
@@Adam_Garratt Thanks for updating the ingredient list, mate. 👍🏻 Unfortunately, whilst I do have 2 cans of Tuna in Springwater, they're 425g, so if I use only one of my cans, I would need a much larger casserole dish. 😕 Also, on the top browning, I seem to remember seeing a KZbin video where the cook uses a blowtorch, and it seemed to work quite well. I know that this is a common practice with Crème Brûlée, but it was the first time that I had ever seen a blowtorch used to brown the top of a baked casserole, (in that case it was Mac 'n' Cheese). One final question: Why on Earth would drinking a *_BELGIAN_* beer make you feel like a Viking? 😲😂
