Replaced my '05 Tundra with a '24 TRD Pro in July. Tow a 5000 lb. toyhauler with it. The danger of towing with the new Tundra is that it is too easy to forget I'm towing a trailer. Effortless pulling over 4,000 ft. mountain passes here in Washington State. Even better than the power ascending the hill is how the truck uses the engine and transmission to control the speed on the descent. That's what's most impressed me with towing with the new Tundra.

the little spout on the piece under the oil filter is meant for attaching a length of hose down to your oil drain pan. My dad's 2006 Tacoma was like that, with the V6 filter mounted up near the top. Following my own advice and the wisdom of others such as yourself, I have made an appointment for its first oil change. I am fortunate to have a great auto shop near me, and they will be servicing this one vs a Toyota dealership. It may have a little under 900 miles by that time, but I don’t care. I did my break-in oil change on my 2024 Tundra SR5 a couple weeks ago. The oil made such a mess shooting out of the drain pan, I installed a Fumoto valve for the next time and bought the 15mm ID hose for the oil filter, it made it so much easier than what you did with yours. I highly recommend it.
@volvo093 ай бұрын
I should see if there is a valve for my ford... It has a goofy 1/2 turn plastic drain plug sealed with an o ring... The opening is like 3/4 of an inch and it shoots hot oil directly at the sway bar, spraying oil all over the place. I hate changing the oil in my truck. It's worse than getting all the way under my Honda and reaching up through a tiny gap to unscrew the oil filter from up on the back of the engine.
@stevenbarrio39773 ай бұрын
@@volvo09 yeah I have a rectangle drain pan so I positioned it to catch the oil as it shot out and it shot out and splashed all over the place, I am looking forward to using the valve with the hose you put on it next time. I even bought a Fumoto for my wife's Subaru.

@@volvo09 Try using a oil extractor. I use one for my 4 Runner. It's wasn't designed to do oil changes this way like how my Mercedes is. But when I moved the tube around it will suck out all of the oil of the 4 Runner. First I push in the tube as far as possible but it doesn't do a complete job. I then have to raised the tube several inches and it begins sucking out the oil again. I wasn't expecting that. I had first tried using the extractor to experiment with it on my 4 Runner. I always pour in the recommended amount of oil required and it's not over filled at all. One time I did take off the drain plug and a maybe a couple of drops came out after I used the extractor.

Admittedly I'm on the automotive OCD spectrum but I always remove filter while drain plug is out. I can't recall any vehicle I've serviced where this didn't release some additional oil to drain. The filter will seal the pump circuit and removing filter vents that circuit and it drains the pump and pickup. Pump onward will typically drain through filter adapter. The cartridge filters can have their special procedure.

I was looking for the rusted parts on brand new trucks like that 2024 Platinum F150 in your other video. Your Toyota looked BEAUTIFUL underneath. Everything painted with no rusted brackets or main parts anywhere. I guess it's a matter of manufacturer pride. For 65K-90K, there shouldn't be a spot of rust on ANYTHING IMO. Great videos!!

I would say by the squat he was near max or over it slightly. He drove 500 miles to Dallas with no issues, even through rain. He said he enjoyed the drama-free drive. I also have a 24’ tundra. What undercoating are you going to go with? I live in Wisconsin and I worry about all that salt and brine that they use constantly.
@johnj17893 ай бұрын
I live in northern Ohio. We went with Fluid-Film, professionally sprayed on. Cost $200 and has to be re-done every year or two but it's supposed to seep into crevasses. Only went through one winter so far, and that was kind of mild, so we'll see what the future brings. They didn't spray inside the doors I found out, so I shot it myself through the drain holes. When I asked why, I was told it tends to drip on people's clothes from those drain holes. But that's only very temporary, so next time I'm telling him to spray the hell out of the doors. My $70,000 truck is worth a lot more than what you're wearing unless you're the queen of England, and so far I haven't had to give her a ride.

Live in Wisconsin as well. 2022 Sequoia. Fluid film it every year. Buy a sprayer that has the 360 wand and get into the frame rails and door drain holes. It has a creeping property. Rust free after three years on salted roads. Most of the coating remains after a year but I touch up the areas that get heavy road spray. $46 a gallon at OReillys. Half a gallon does the truck each year, so $23 to keep my family vehicle rust free.

Here in the UK with these "keyless" keys, you have to keep them in a RFID blocking pouches. Meaning you have to take them out and put in the pouch or wallet. Reason you have to do this is because criminals come outside your home or where your keyless key is, clone the signal with a device and steal your car. You wake up in the morning and the car is gone. What they do after who knows, so these keyless method has its risks. Something to be aware of.
@TheCobruhAlienat0r2 ай бұрын
Same thing can happen with the regular fob that comes with push button start vehicles. With new Toyota's they can still steal it even if you put your key in the pouch because they can pop a headlight out and plug in a device that some how forces the car to start and then they drive it to their shop and use the dealership tools to program a new key and ship it somewhere else.

I decided to do my own oil change (quite easy, didn't need to jack it up. It not equipped with a skid plate). I'll never have the dealer change my oil again. I had to use a 3/4 breaker bar (with extension) to get the filter housing loose, its plastic. Was afraid that I would shear it off. Going to change it out with a metal one. I will have the dealer to change trans and rear end oils at 50 thousand , also clean and flush the radiator. At 73 I'm too old to do the heavy stuff.

I cannot speak to the new tundra, but our 2015 crewmax towed a 9000lb, 32ft RV up the Poconos. It had good power even up some grades. For the leaf springs, when the truck was weighed down, it rode much better than empty. You definitely felt the trailer, but the bumps were smoother loaded. Yes. I retired from working for a manufacturer and a live ("cloud") system was the fix for resident systems that could be hacked. The resident systems had protections for log in, but even live log in could be bypassed once the security was decoded. Toyota could have keys loaded using aftermarket scan tools for subscribed key/immobilizer servicing but some issue surfaced and Toyota pulled back this feature from some tools.

Very cool and informative video! FWIW, I did a first oil change on my 2014 Mazda 6 and 2010 Toyota RAV4 V6 at 5K miles. Both cars have ~125K miles (5-6K mile oil change intervals) now and both consume virtually zero oil in 5K miles. Sooooooooo............... not doing a 1K break-in oil change doesn't seem to have hurt these two cars. Just my experience.
@rightlanehog31512 ай бұрын
For what it's worth, I think 5,000 mile intervals with off the shelf synthetic oil are perfectly sensible. I did a 1000 km (620 mile) break-in oil change when my 1.8 liter 1ZZ-FE engine was new. Then I followed the owners manual severe service interval for the remainder of the 5 year warranty period. During those 5 years I let the dealer use OEM filters and I supplied the Amsoil Signature Series oil. With a Severe Service rating of 15,000 miles or one year for non-turbocharged engines, I am in my 15th year of once-a-year oil changes with Amsoil Signature Series oil and their long-life filters. The engine is as good as new. Please take especially good care of that V6 RAV4, it is a future classic.
