Edinburgh's National Museum of Scotland is by far one of my favourite attraction in the city - and it's FREE! Spooky ancient artifacts, Picasso, visitors from outer space, clones: it has it all!
Today I'd love you to join me on this in depth tour of Edinburgh's most expansive museum so I can share my personal faves with you and also a whole bunch of practical info you should know before visiting.
Have you been to the National Museum in Edinburgh? What is your favourite object in it, or do you just love it all?

Another awesome video. I've been to The National Museum of Scotland a few times as it's fab. Mind you, I had no idea they had so many sensory offerings for those that need assistance with that side of things so that is so great to see. Well done the NMS 👏👏👏👏

It's always fascinating to visit this museum. It's free, it's varied, and it's so large that you can keep coming back for more. What museums do you all like to visit?

Loved the video, this is one of my favourite places so it's great to see others enjoying it! Was a bit disappointed not to see much of ancient peoples basement, it's got some amazing highlights like our pictish stones and the ballachulish figure (the framing and lighting there is especially beautiful). It's always super quiet bc it's a bit more tricky to find and it's my favourite place in the whole museum

This is so embarrassing! And I guess also a great testament to just how huge the museum is. I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever been to that part of the museum, even though it is on the map 🫥

@@Kakibot At 10:49 there are two Pictish stones displayed right behind the harp. It was a pleasure to see how much you enjoyed the Big Museum and your overall appreciation of our history and culture. You've got a new subscriber now lass!

Brilliant vid on a building with an abundance of always-fascinating collections; I don't go often enough! Great views from the top, though I've never been up there when the weather's been pleasant. (Also, OH is jealous of Simon's backpack.)

I love this museum, in fact I go there every week! Still haven't seen everything though! Personally, the newer building is one of my favourite buildings to be in in Edinburgh. It's just so bizarre and maze like that you can turn a corner or cross a little bridge and find a new place every time. It's like a TARDIS with how big it seems. But you never feel lost. Ingenious architecture.

Maybe you never get lost because you diligently visit every week! .D I feel like it's only been recently for me that I started feeling well oriented there, especially in the new building - but at least I can feel like a truly useful guide whenever I drag someone over for the very first time!

I love that the museum is free and has events it's very interactive and educational, great place to visit if you come to Edinburgh, I've been in the old museum before it got refurbished and remember the fish ponds and millenium clock being in the main hall

I also love the museum. It was always where you went if you were bored on school holidays (it was just along the street from my house) and now after watching your very informative film, I can say I’ll be there every day from now on as I spotted myself in the Proclaimers video in your film..! 😁

We were there last year with my daughter, I caught up also Dr.Who's exhibition. My daughter loves it too. It is free, kid friendly and super interactive. After over 3 hours my daugther was tired after that, but great to see they have also things for autistic people and noise sensitive and so on. This is just great. Want to go again of course, we did not see all of it

As a young man, Trainspotting gave me the heebie jeebies to a much greater extent than Dolly the Sheep! As always, a terrific video.

Haha, yeah ok, you got me! Now that I'm thinking about it, as soon as I hit the (probably not quite appropriate) age to watch Trainspotting, it hasn't left me with the most balanced of mental states .DD

Dolly didn't give me the heebie jeebies at all, In fact I found her rather friendly, she would come when called and has eaten from my hand on a couple occasions - yes I'm one of those responsible for making her overweight. I always go and say hello to her when I go to the museum.

I'm still salty over them changing the layout from when I was a kid. It used to have this charmingly uncared for vibe where you would wander through these passages and there were the dinosaurs, there were the stuffed animals. there were the Egyptian mummies and there was the spooky African dolls with the nails in them. Then they changed it all around and my brain still cant handle it! 😅

National museam of scotland wouldn't let a severely visually impiared person use a camera (with no flash) as a low vision aid , as recognised by RNIB ,& the macular society, so not a fan of their draconian policies
