I would suggest the 702 touch or the Cine 7 with Red control. It’s waaay more versatile than that DSMC3 monitor. Both the 702 touch and the Cine 7 have the same OS as the DSMC 3 monitor because they are all made by Small HD.

@ nope. It only really needs to happen when you swing pretty drastically between temperature of location and even then it only takes 20 seconds to calibrate

Love your setup! I started rigging out my Komodo and just made it too big to where it was uninspiring to shoot with. Seeing how compact this setup is reminds me of why I got the Komodo in the first place. Cheers from Atlanta!

Beautiful rig, man. In my opinion I wouldn’t use a left handle (I’m right handed), cause I like to use my left hand to control the lens, but all the rest was great. One of the most beautiful advantages of RED is that app, so you don’t have to buy an expensive monitor (mostly at the beginning), but yeah, as you said, that monitor (the one from the Raptor-cable less) is a beauty. Expensive, but a beauty. Thanks. Happy to be part of your gang now 🙏

Nice I didn't know Alvin's cables made all those nice audio cables to avoid XLR or 3.5mm adapters and just go direct from mic to camera. Lovely.

God I hate my 25lb. Gemini rig. My minimalist FX3 build has been my goto and clients can't tell the difference. I love your build. FYI, FXLION came out with mini batteries years ago. Been using the Nano 2s for awhile. I prefer them as you can actually see voltage instead of a percentage.

The Komodo X still has a long ways to go as far as continuous autofocus is concerned but that picture is hard to beat!

For sure. It’s not going to beat your Sony, Canon, nikon, but its Face detect with ef lenses is much better than I anticipated. I use sigma Arts and they don’t miss when doing a talking head.

@@caffeinatedcameras I am. First time Red user and man, I have jumped into the deep deep end of the pool. Picked up the eVND and a Tokina Vista Prime 21mm PL mount...you know since I didn't have any PL mount lenses :) As well as the monitor and top handle. It will be interesting switching between Red, Sony and Blackmagic cameras.

Nice build! I have a bigger build with the Komodo-X. GDU at the moment is the best avenue for rigging parts at the moment.

I really enjoy GDU parts from a design aesthetic. Looks and comfort can’t be beat, but functionally not the best, not horrible, but not the best, and their customer service is pretty bad. I am looking forward to the new neutron line though. Really excited for that. Should take the functionality to a much higher level.

@@caffeinatedcameras Agreed! Those handles are so bad lol. I went with the Komodo side ribs. GDU has a v2 version of them now. With the side ribs you can add nato rails and use nato handles. I might try out the v2 side ribs from GDU.

@@JJSCTech yeah they have a version coming soon that can rotate, uses a rosette and ads a bunch of rotatable quarter 20’s to add different bits and bobs. Saw the version 2, but I think I’ll wait. I will probably get the mighty mount though. Pretty slick little tool

I rented the KX with the 7" and I just hated the oversized weight distribution of such a big, heavy monitor on a small camera system. Weight is really important to me for the way I shoot. I tried out the Ronin 4D last week and it about broke my back. 🤣

The Red Control app honestly works great for me on OG Komodo as well on latest firmware updates. I use it with a phone mounted in a little SmallRig cage that gives it 1/4-20s. I can't wait for RED to release a DSMC3 5" or 5.5" display. Patiently waiting for that to happen.

@@caffeinatedcameras yeah Jarred has said on quite a few livestreams he isn’t happy with the current monitor situation but they are working on it and a smaller version is definitely on the way at some point. Likely an issue of time it takes working with additional vendors to make things. A big SDI display that needs its own power solution or additional power cables is definitely not ideal though. I would love to see RED make a mini version of the DSMC2 side handle and has R/S and other dials and buttons. That is amazing on DSMC2 still.

Meike, Kippertie, Mofage and Breakthrough all make a rear mounted VND. I have the Meike and it’s been great. You can get them either in PL or EF to RF. There are no rear mounted ND solutions for mirrorless mount lenses. The flange distance is too short. My ND solution for lenses is the Helix Maglock by PolarPro

Depending on the lens, AF I don’t worry about it, and the AF is actually quite capable, but when it’s a manual lens, the handle will rest on the underside of my wrist

I was going through some of the other GDU stuff, and it looks like they did make some toolless thumbscrews for those Atlas grips. Looks like they include them in the full package. Not sure if they are worth $24 per screw buying them separate though haha. I'm sure making custom hardware like that isn't cheap though.
