Nice Video, i love youre content. You teached me how to Do this stuff. The last few month i have build 3 MS 200t. Your Numbers are insane! I already bought me the popup for the 500i and iam waiting for the Machining and porting video. Good Job John. Greats from Bavaria

100% agree. To port a saw you need a plan. I know all my cuts and compression ratio before I do anything. When I started I found it easy to get a saw to rev. Building saws to make torque is far harder. The funny thing is I don't port for rpm at all now and they still pull hard on top. As far as I can tell the top end is just a by product of correct compression ratio and good breathing. I built myself a brand new 375XPW last month and finally got to run it back to back with my new 592XP doing fire wood. My first impression of the 375 was a bit luke warm to be honest but the reality its making more torque and top than my stock 592. I'm going to call that a win. To top it off the saw just runs super sweet.

Great video John. Haven't used lathe yet. Got one but gotta get it home. Then to practice. I know machine work (done properly) can improve my results. Helping out an occasional friend but mainly my own saws just for fun. Nice model tutorial and like your piston/machine work. Nice editing and enjoy the content / sense of humor. Thank you.

You must have board Bella when filming this video. You had her snoring. I was laughing my ass off. Hope you have been well. I'm down for a bit just got home from back surgery. So catching up with everyone. Stay safe and well my friend.

It’s amazing that this subject is still being argued and the porting guys that don’t machine are still saying that porting is just grinding. I’ve started calling it optimized not ported to include both. But I recon guys can build a saw however they want.

How did you decide on taking .040 off the top? Or was that just for illustration purposes? If it is, how do you decide on how much to take off top of cylinder?

Have you ever machined a dished piston not like your example but cutting middle of the piston kind of like a 4 stroke piston valve reliefs just curious I know it helps with compression in other engines just not sure if a saw would gain compression with a diff dish. Sorry don’t know if that makes sense lol
@adraonbuck2 жыл бұрын
This might be a bit unrelated. But I’m really curious how you clean your saw after you’ve finished porting/polishing/machining, to prevent and residual material from scuffing up the cylinder?? Any tips or advise would be a real help. 🙏🙏

Being you're not taking on anymore builds, do you have recommendations of builders. Preferably local or kind of local?

First I just want to put this out there and I would love to learn more about water balloons if you get a chance to make a video on different types of water balloons that sounds like a fun topic LOL second I really like the info you gave I'm about Midway through the video I am definitely learning a lot about the whole compression I'm not sure if you know or looked at my channel but I am very new boarding two strokes because all of my bikes are two strokes I work out of my bedroom but that's all I have so I don't have a laid but I would love to get one one day eventually so with the information you're giving in this video alone I am going to do my best to come up with a homemade leave imitation type of thing so I can take out squish in the combustion chamber so that I can get my volume back up to get more torque I definitely knew high compression was much more needed to make power and torque but I did not realize him I was sacrificing that much possible torque by not getting a cylinder machine I am not financially able to send my cylinders out to get them done would be amazing if I could but I can't so I'm going to try to figure out a way do it myself by hand in my bedroom I'll let you know when I come up with cuz this video 100% mean you realize how much I need to do this thank you PS don't forget I want to see a water balloon video eventually LOL

how can i get in touch with you id love for you do do a saw for i got a 260 and a 261 ou can do which ever ne you like
@jacobhein43192 жыл бұрын
you can gain torque from just porting and base gasket deletes alone, just no where near as much if ya do some machine work.
@lumbearjack37222 жыл бұрын
A “firewood saw” is an amusing term 😂 most firewood saws I know work harder then production saws. I’m learning to port and enjoy the info you share. I don’t have a lathe yet but have been able to achieve decent results with base gasket deletes so far. I am excited to see the increase in results when I do start running a Lathe
@Ketis19852 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Production cutting pulp wood and timber is easier for saw than running saw bar buried into firewood pile all the time.

Im not sure who it was, think smitty, maybe dyno joe, had a great example of the stages of saw builders. And yes theres no argument milling your at the end stage. Plateau. Even though you dont need a 2 ton brigeport to shave with, the farmer i am tells me otherwise.
@quentindavis62 жыл бұрын
It does make a big difference you should machine a saw when you poured it I totally agree
@nuttyDesignAndFab2 жыл бұрын
if all you're doing is some machining, and these castings need to be machined by the manufacturer anyway; why doesn't the manufacturer just machine them to these specs to begin with? 🤔
@Ketis19857 ай бұрын
You dont need to do machine work to gain torque in a chainsaw, there are other ways.
@Aaron_A_Lynch2 жыл бұрын
Dickie Fartlong was an innovator in this game... seriously though machining is very important part of any build..🤙🏻🪓😎
