Public land grazing is good for the public that uses BLM land. If the ranchers were not allowed to use/lease it, they would lobby for less public land because of the need for grazing lands. That is why there are no BLM lands in the eastern States. Better to share the public lands, than to not have any.

I’m not against the grazing on public lands. I know in some fire districts they let goat farmers graze goats to keep the weeds down for brush fire control. 🤷‍♂️

Cattle have been on public land much longer than campers or “nomads.” I have encountered them on backpacking trips and have had no issues. But yes, they belong. We create more of a problem than they do.

It’s amazing how quickly Echo picked up on the scent of the elk…but in particular he also picked up immediately the direction the elk travelled! Amazing!🤩

That looks like a great campsite! The grazing fees help to pay for things.

Leasing the land to ranchers is income to the Feds. It also keeps the brush and grass down. We have lots of animals that graze here in NorCal for that reason alone. The humans that graze are not paying $ to stay there, and they make bigger messes in some cases. I get what you are saying, but I think the human do more damage than the cows..

Those cows do less damage to land than do humans in most cases....In fact, the cows help to keep grasses low for fire season......So if you dont think cows should be allowed on public land, then neither should the public....

What grazing cattle does is, keep grasses and that type of thing in check. Before it was BLM land, it was ranch land. Allowing to graze helps both sides.

I would imagine a win win for the rancher public land. For fires growth .. ? On 1 hand on another u tube channel I saw that they had cows and the rangers asked that camper let them know if they came within a boundary. And ranchers had to round them up like 2 times. Cow poop smells lol. But I live a great big fat stake

Grazing promotes bio diversity and is helpful to the land if properly managed. Not to mention the taste of the meat after wild grazing. But …. If it is not managed we loose the benefits so you are correct in that form.

I believe the cattle are doing exactly what the buffalo🦬 used to do, help the land. There aren't enough park workers to take care of the land! I've been around cattle all my life, please use caution when you walk towards them and they don't move away, have something you can get between you and them. They don't like dogs any better than wolves 🐺! The bulls 🐂 are never to be trusted, I made that mistake once and got rammed against the barn wall, luckily I was young and only had bruised hip bones!☺️. Take care ❣️

Grazing cattle keeps land from becoming overgrown. As long as the ranchers pay grazing fees and do not become like the deadbeat Bundys I’m fine with it. This land belongs to all of us.

I’m Canadian, in British Columbia, and cattle grazing on public land happens here. I’m not sure what the arrangement is btwn the farmer and government but I’m all for it. It means the land is being managed and there are humans/farmers around instead of only recreational users. I’ve only ever experienced truly wrecked back country areas where the only users are people without a vested interest.

Those would be known as beef cattle, and that’s not what you get from a fast food joint. Would you get at a fast food joint is old dried up milk cows, which would be dairy cattle.

My cousin was a top beef cattle producer for McDonalds. They weren't milkers. State Fair winning beef. They produced so much beef for McDonalds they got the chance to launch McDonalds in Chile. Think he had 22 McDonalds there. Went to Chile to see his operation.

@ well, on the east coast 40 years ago they were at the rural stock sales buying unseen lots of 50 at a time-hundreds per weekend, with only a couple representing cows coming through the arena… they were very old Holsteins with bloody hip bones rubbing through their hides… and the rule was they must have a pulse if they had to be dragged off the trailer with the tractor. If they died after being dragged off the trailer then that was ok. The buyer only winked at the caller during bidding-very polished-he bought for a supplier to fast food burger joints. I lived a few miles from a industry building that made the processing machinery that beat/chopped/ ground the cattle into patties, they hired anyone who could weld stainless steel and machinists to run cnc and lathes for assembly line manufacturing and replacement parts.

I think the grazing helps w keeping the land from being sold off for grazing. I'm with you they are a little gross and annoying at times. I had one knock over my starlink like a week after I got it lol. Luckily it wasn't harmed.

Here in Ohio, cattle manure is used in gardening. They are fertilizing the land and transferring seeds and nuts from one area to another. They are doing good.

What about when there are coyotes, cougars, wolves, bobcat, bears, and lynx? Now Catlady is having rust fixed. You are still welcome to camp on my land near Show Low, and yes a cow will come through. My dog barks like crazy at cows and pretty much anything. Arizona is pretty much all free range, even on private land.

I wonder what, if any, liability issues there are with cattle grazing on public land? If a rancher's cattle injures or damages a camper or their property, who is liable? Or do public land users assume the risk, and have no recourse? Hmmm...

Quite frankly I think humans are the worst to allow anywhere. The animals are supposed to be on the land. The only garbage they leave is something that helps things grow. I thought people camped because they wanted to see nature?

Seems to me that free range cattle on BLM land is no different than bison living on that same land. Plus its much healthier for the animals than being coraled up in several feet of dung!! Those cattle ain't going to McDonald's 😂 ✌🏻
