My Unpopular Opinions About Locs | Dreadlock Talk

I hate hearing the old, Locs are unprofessional, blah, blah, blah. I don't hear it so much in the states, but when I taught in Tanzania, I kept hearing, "Oh, you can only get away with that because you're a foreign teacher, or you get away with that because your hair is naturally long." My locs definitely didn't start long. They were just above my shoulders after shrinkage and because of my texture, super fluffy/puffy. I think my microlocs are way more professional than some of the braids I see down to the floor or wigs that need to be uninstalled. I haven't heard that much in the states since the crown act, but I definitely "feel" it sometimes at work.

I use to feel that way about conditioning. Until my hair started growing. I need to condition my locs because my skin is too sensitive and my hair feels too rough on my skin. It feels like im wearing a wool sweater every day. I just can't. My sensory issues.

Locs need conditioning, it’s still hair. I was doing that at first.. but you learn as you go thru your journey.

Why will people will opt for locs, that is pretty much irreversible or will be so much trouble to detangle, when you can just get twists ? They look pretty much the same ??

Sisss my twists did not look the same as locs at all haha my twists were on the struggle bus lol 😆 I think maybe for the looser curl hair textures it would be easier to rock twists…but for the super coily (like me)- Locs is IT! It’s way more manageable than twists would be for my hair texture. I’m having flashbacks of the horror just talking about it 😂💕🫶🏾

A lot of people don’t plan on detangling their locs. Some folks plan on keeping them permanently and some folks like myself plan on cutting them off when the time to transition comes. I never loc’d thinking how hard it was going to be to detangle my thought was thank God I no longer have to detangle 😂

While I’m appreciating my locs let me also add your hair naturally highlights my hair has always been a true 1b but now I have ombré bits with brown and reddish tones peeking through it’s so pretty 😍
