Great apron. I wear Birkenstocks now and and they really help with posture and are really comfortable when broken in. The thing about the classic chef jacket that if any boiling hot liquid spills on your chest you can instantly pull your jacket off minimising burns.

This is a great video with a lot of good points. I never really thought of professional kitchens being that dangerous relative to current day. I wear a summer weight tactical pant from Propper. Stain resistant, breathable, and lots of pockets. I enjoy the professional look off a modern white chef coat, however I‘ve brought one with me each time I staged, and never ended up wearing it there because the kitchens were so hot / it didn’t match the attire. I’m hoping it’ll come in handy if I pick up side gigs / my own work. I was wondering about the apron, Justin! I’ve seen similar proprietary design out there however many seemed overpriced. I’m in the process of making myself some out of cotton denim. On a side note, I’ll be starting a new job soon, where the kitchen has both a wood fired grill and pizza oven. :)

I strongly and highly highly recommend mozo brand boots. I have been thru two pairs in 4 years. They stand test of time. Easy to clean, they look good, they fit great, your feet can breath, posture is good. As a diabetic my feet are important, as a chef 10-12 hours of standing does its toll on you. Mozo brand is by far the best I've used

Really enjoy your videos! I used to food truck work when the scene got really hip. I wore above the knee shorts that had crotch room. I would pair those up with knee high socks, the kind for blood circulation problems. Found them in some nifty patterns! Word got around, and everyone was on that boat! I'm a personal Chef now, and still rock that style.

In the recent past I was working at a country club, and the owners insisted that we wear chef coats. It took months, but I finally convinced them when I had to have one of the owners run Expo because we were so short, that we should be allowed to wear polo shirts. The next week they gave us nice golf polos out of the pro shop.
@jtmag3638
@jtmag3638 6 жыл бұрын
TheCulinarian golf shirts are great for sweating heavily, but they’re meant to be worn outdoors, where they can dry properly. Rayon in the kitchen, is a disaster, the sweat stays on your body, the material gets extremely smelly, and it’s just the opposite of good kitchen attire. I promise, 100% cotton chef coat, or snap shirt, will change your life!

Try Geox shoes. I often work in the kitchen or on food trucks and have been wearing Geox shoes for years since my feet sweat quite a bit as well. Even on a food truck in the middle of summer in Texas, my feet stay dry as the shoes breath and let out moisture while allowing in air.

I am most comfortable in 100% cotton, my chef coats are all from “chefwear” and they’re all 100% cotton. This shirt looks awesome, if it were cotton I’d try it out. I now own around 10 pair they're absolutely the best that's the one thing about the culinary industry that's weird as I always felt like the uniform is just out of touch now I will work in a chef coat but I really enjoy a black vented Chef coat I believe there by Happy Chef not that expensive but they keep me cool especially working a lot of high-profile catering for sports and entertainment I do a lot of running around in the last thing I want to be at the end of the night is super sweaty

The demographic of the average line cook has changed a lot in the last 2 decades. Which has led to a lot of cringed content of assholes who have an inflated idea of what their job is. Food is trending right now because of social media but all trends die at some point. The saturation of restaurants will reel and this new era of fairy boy cooks aren’t going to be ready for it. Most badass cooks I know don’t know what brand their shoe is and wear a linen service white apron.

Thanks for the tips! For shoes, I recently bought a pair of Blundstones, as they were recommended by basically everyone in my kitchen, and I highly HIGHLY recommend them for not just comfort but also the look

+1 on Blundstones - had a bunch of co-workers wear them and I've tried them on and loved them. Wish they had a bit more breathability but that comes with how sturdy they are.
