The rod bearings start to have issues when the engine is driven from cold, same deal with the S54 and S85 Gotta wait for the oil to get up to temperature, then it's viscosity is lower and it can lubricate the bearings properly- when it's cold the oil is too thick for the tight bearing clearances 👍

5w50 oil will save your rod bearings Warmer thermostat (880090 motorad 90c from Dodge Viper) will bring up the car up to temp quicker and will make power less consumption of oil.

It won't. 10w60 is the oil this engine has been designed to work with. Bringing the car up to temp quicker isn't always a better thing. There's a reason the manufacturers spend a ton of money researching. Don't spread FUD and stick with stock specifications and care instructions if you want the car to live a happy life.

Richard Harrold He has to be talking about the race spec 300bhp cars as those intake tracks as sick. Def not better than this though in street trim. S65 also has multiple championships under its belt just not as many as e30 as it raced in DTM and Rallye, the latter being my favorite.

Thanks James. I care less about the cool looks. I only open the bonnet to work on my car, not for show. I would expect you could get almost the same result in induction noise just by using a pod filter instead of OEM. Would like to know if you can tell the difference between OEM and eventuri plenum.

James, what is your take on rod bearings. I have heard so many varying opinions. Based on the content and how this car is driven by KZbinrs, your opinion has weight. I have a '13 e93 58k km on it. I don't drive over 2.5k rpm until the oil reaches temp. Should I just change them for maintenance/safety of the motor? Throttle actuators I can just buy and keep them aside until they give in or just do them both?
