Your Vandas grow so well! I wish I could do the same. I tried the glass vase method, but the roots became covered in green algae sludge and slowly declined. For a while, I kept scrubbing all the roots every two to three weeks, but it was very time consuming. I got to a point that I wasn't enjoying those plants any longer. The watering alone felt like heavy lifting. Especially when turning the vases upside down to let the water out, with these long fans making it so difficult. In the end I got rid of all my Vandas and I vowed never to buy another one again. I admire you for your patience and dedication. Good job!

Thank you so much! I do get it though; it is a bit of a job so to speak. I did have more vanda’s but I also did get rid of a few because of the work load they require. But I couldn’t live without the Vanda’s that I do have left. I love them, and I love it when they do get so big….

Nice project,,great idea! 👍 Heavy lifting ahead? Lol. I know ,I know....lol ..I'm sure you will managed that without any extra effort 💪😁. Vanda 🌿 looks really good in those pots 👏. Btw... I hear good praises about you ( e.g.. your Phal. wall ) on other channels .You absolutely deserve all of it 💐. Have a wonderful day 🤗🌸🌷🦋🐞🌺

It is a bit of lifting these days LOL.. but I still can handle it on my own :P… And yes, I am honored by the attention that other growers do give my channel. It means a lot to me! Thank you so much. :D

Interesting Eelke! Should do really well. I've thought about using a wider pot myself, but couldn't stategize weight balance factor. That heavy ballast at the bottom would do me in, so for now I have 3 Vandas in vases and 2 free hanging.
@TheOrchidSaGa6 ай бұрын
They are indeed very heavy. I manage to get it to work but I can imagine that it is to heavy for some. And the plants are big too!... But it seams to work for me and the plants, they do start growing very well! The vases did work very well for me too, so that is a good setup for vandas if you ask me. But if they do get big, it is hard to keep them from falling over….

I hope your vandas do well in this new set up. I know that you’ll be on top of things just in case there are any adverse changes.

I absolutely will be indeed! Thank you! :D I will do updates… I really hope this will work! :D

wouldn't it have been better to drill a hole in the center of the brick, insert the pvc into the hole and glue it in place? That would keep the weight of the Vanda centered in the pot. Alternatively, have a piece of PVC on either side of the pot so the Vanda can be secured in an upright position (like staking a tree).
@TheOrchidSaGa6 ай бұрын
I did think about making a whole in the brick, but this pvc is not that strong. I also wasn’t sure enough if the glue would hold the brick and the wait of some of the Vanda’s, they are heavy… So, I will try this but I might need a more centered pole in a few years. Currently it is the same as it was with the glass vases.

Hi E.J.😌🙌Your Vandas are amazing🥰🤲💞I also have rhynchostylis gigantea that have dark magenta red flowers. I enjoyed watching😌🙏💖
@TheOrchidSaGa6 ай бұрын
I really like that dark red color! I also have the peace one, also a nice color. I would love a more creamy yellow one, one day. First, I need to grow them better! They didn’t like it so far in my care LOL… Thank you so much for watching. :D

Do you have bricks in all of them? The smaller ones look more square. And do the roots get damaged by the brick at all? I love this idea!
@TheOrchidSaGa6 ай бұрын
They all have bricks in the pots. About the roots; if I tilt the pots, to get the water out, I might move them a bit to much for some roots. They might get damaged. But not much roots I think, plus I will be as carful as I can. Some roots might get attached to the bricks. Which is fine but can me a pain when they need a bigger pot… But so for, I do like it myself! It works great :D Let me know if you going to try this too! I would love to know if it works for you and your plants!

The oldest most be in my care for 6 years. The biggest one I think around 5 years. Thank you! The pots do work great for me and my plants.

@@TheOrchidSaGa I cant believe they grow that big within 5 - 6yrs but I guess it depends how mature they were when you got them. I bought a couple of seedlings 3 years ago and most of them barely grow half an inch tall! Do you got success on seedlings?

Hey Ej, great idea! Just curious did you have to flush more when the algae died off? I figure the dark pots allowed the algae to die. So it would take alot of flushes for first couple months. Or maybe the roots didn't have as much algae as the glass. Just curious. Great video 😊 thanks for sharing 👍 we gotta make bigger and bigger spaces for our big huge vandas! 😂
@TheOrchidSaGa6 ай бұрын
O the algae was so BAD… But I did seem to notice that the algae did prefer to grow on the oldest roots. I am not sure why. Anyhow, I did have some root loss because of the algae growth on it. I did try to flush, brush with a toothbrush. I also did try to spray the roots with the hose on full speed, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide… Nothing seems to work. I just can not get it off. It is a strange thick, strong sturdy algae. When it dries, you see these cracks in it. Maybe it is a different type of algae then usually on the roots? Not sure though, but I am really hoping this new set up will work!!!! LOL…
@hillbillyorchids6 ай бұрын
@@TheOrchidSaGaOH I would think the darker atmosphere of the dark pot will kill it off on its own. I can't believe peroxide didn't take it off! It must be some real tough stuff! 😂
@squeekee356 ай бұрын
Oh if you used regular caulking it is toxic. If you use that in your fush tank it will kill all the fish. You really want specifically aquarium silicone. It is neutral and safe
@TheOrchidSaGa6 ай бұрын
That would have been so much better indeed! I hope they will do fine. What are signs I need to look out for? I thought one of the first things that might happen when it is toxic, root loss?

Very nice video, thanks for sharing EJ! Vandas are always tricky to grow in pot. Do you grow Rhyncostylis gigantia? I just see that you do. Do they like this setup?

They love it! I had them in Semi Hydro and almost lost them. Sloppy leaves, but now the leaves are nice and firm again. I am so happy they start to like it here in my greenhouse again. :D
