This rifle is why I started watching. Love Sako and love wood stocks. More people should make beautiful guns like yours

Now that’s what I’m talking about ....... Outstanding video Steve ! I must admit, ya had me worried when you put up the “Q&A video”, last week. I’m thinking you’ve gone soft and all touchy-feely on me. What we really need, is another tour with the Cardinals, and 87g blessings, impact videos through the scope, some old school varminting and fox tipping. Anyway, carry on, love ya work. Cheers.

Well I might be going a little soft but I can assure you my rifles still hit hard. HaHa.....

You have a great personal touch to your videos. It seems you aren't just making a video, it's like you're actually talking 1 on 1 with your audience. You'll be at 10K in no time. Thanks.

Good going lads. I’m running a .243 now with 1-8 twist and loving the performance of the 105g A-Max. Previously had 1-10 twist and it loved the 87g V-Max Bothe excellent rounds. I’ve had many calibers but now settled on .243 and 7 rem mag to cover varmint and longer range hunting Keep up the good work
@BoltActionProductions6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul. Those A-max would be a great long range bomb. You definitely have long range covered with those two cartridges.

Cool stuff. Not surprised about the 5,000, its a great channel. I've always enjoyed varminting more than any other shooting sport, there's nothing quite like wasting pests on the farm at silly ranges, quite a step up from the dark old days of the rusty old Russian single shot .22LR as a kid, 40m max!
@BoltActionProductions6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dave. Just need the rabbits to breed up a little so we have a job to do again. Are you still in NZ?
@StaffordshireBullTerrierTwins6 жыл бұрын
Yup. Been back and forth to NW Queensland on a project, did some highly enjoyable pig control there on the one break, with a .35 Whelan Ruger M77, first time I've ever used a medium bore bolt gun I think. Flattens pigs. Pretty much flattened me a couple of times when I didn't quite get my shoulder right shooting off the bike. Bugger me I was a bit sore after a couple of days of that.

I really really enjoyed that!! What am immaculate rifle and to have custom finished that stock is outstanding! I love the fact that you were pushing the limits back in thr day with tape recording through your rifle scope - what dedication!! Thanks for sharing and once again setting that bar that much higher!! The start was like watching top gear but for rifles

Thanks Jamie. I know you for one appreciate these little challenges in putting the videos together. What would life be without these challenges
Yes mate, we can never know it all. We need to learn from each other to help strengthen our hunting community via video and social media IMO.

Hi Steve ,thanks for all the effort that you guys go to in you videos .The content is so valuable for guys like me that are just starting off shooting .Ive got a tikka 22-250 and have just started reloading .Would you get the powder charge right for the best groups then adjust seat depth or vice a versa. Love your 243 build would like to get one that shoots the heavier end of the bullet range .What twist would you recommend that . Keep up the great work , look forward to more foxing and rabbit videos. Cheers Wayne
@BoltActionProductions5 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoy our videos Wayne. I usually use seating depth as a fine tuning tool at the end, concentrating on powder charge in the beginning. The standard 1 in 10" twist of a 243 will handle projectiles up to 100gr with no issue.
@petermann99806 жыл бұрын
Nice gun Steve , I've just bought my first 6mm but ended up buying a mk5 in 240 . Have you tried the 63gn Barnes varmint grenades yet ?
@BoltActionProductions6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Peter. I want high BC projectiles and the Barnes you mention wouldn’t cut the mustard at the distances I like to stretch it to.

intersting and timely . . . i am about to rebarrel a sako in .243W, hadnt considered a 1-12 twist but i do use the 87 Vmax so cheers for the idea . . . . what is your barrel length and load please . . . cheers R.
@BoltActionProductions6 жыл бұрын
Barrel is a Maddco and the length is a little bit under 30". 44.0gr's of 2209, BR2 Primers, Winchester Brass is the combination I use for the 87gr Vmax.
@rosstisbury16266 жыл бұрын
cheers for the fast reply . . . 30inch barrel helps to explain your velocity . . what kind of barrel life are you expecting . . R
@BoltActionProductions6 жыл бұрын
It’s still grouping around the 1/3-1/4MOA after somewhere around 1500rnds. I should be able to get that many again if I look after it well
@rosstisbury16266 жыл бұрын
thats more than i hear people talking about . . . i suspect a lot of problems come about because improper cleaning etc do you have a cleaning method that you could explain a little . . . R
@BoltActionProductions6 жыл бұрын
What many don't realise is that the load that you found shot best at the beginning of the barrel life may not be the same at the end. It pays to do a little bit of load development mid barrel life and not only adjust seating depth but try a couple of powder variations. I am pretty meticulous when it comes to cleaning my barrels and this is my method. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqTJpqZphpuVirM

Congratulations 5000 subscribers, great channel, love the rabbit varminting videos as just started to film too . Have heard about Hbn bullet coating ? I've been doing it now , if you're interested in better accuracy watch David Tubb - KZbin
@BoltActionProductions6 жыл бұрын
Cheers Wayne. I use to shoot Moly coated projectiles in my .222 and to be honest I really noticed very little difference. Funny thing was that I actually burnt that barrel out faster than any other. I will check Davids site out.
@waynehobbs92966 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, Moly is no good as it burns off at around 600 degrees, where as Hbn is 2600 C. I first came across it on Richard Utting SharpShootingUK , he has a short video on KZbin as well. If you decide to try some let me know and put you in contact as to where to purchase it
