I was bored one day, so I decided to put together a video of pretty much all the parts in the Secret Garden when Mary and Dickon are together. I find them both so cute. Haha! :)

​@sofiivert9116 Nah. Apart from the fact that Mary shut Colin's interest down due to the fact that they're cousins, those two are far too alike in terms of temper. Mary and Dickon, on the other hand, have a chemistry that she and Colin don't, on top of Dickon being the much more chill presence that balances out and compliments Mary's fiery attitude. Their goals are similar, too- simple and comfortable whereas Colin's are ambitious and far reaching. While it helped heal him, he doesn't have the same affinity for nature that Mary and Dickon do. While the garden and Misselthwaite will surely always be important to Colin, he wants to explore the world as a scientist. He wouldn't be content staying in his childhood home. It isn't so with Mary, as evidenced by the last shot of the movie that shows her all grown up and still enjoying the garden. And you can bet that Dickon is there as well. 🙂

Plus they are first cousins, and it's just weird. I know the family line has Lord's and Ladies but the Royal family tried to stop inbreeding at that point so the Next class down should have too. Even reading the book you got the sense Mary and Dickon would have a forbidden romance in the future.

Return to the Secret Garden is a sequel to the 1987 tv version, not this one. This one is my favorite and Mary and Dickon are so sweet together. Colin is good too in this version, but if you watch Mary's reaction to Colin's suggestion of marriage....you know it's NEVER going to happen lol.

There was definitely an underlying theme of young love between Mary and Dickon in this particular movie adaptation. There's many moments throughout the film that pointedly focus on the two characters chemistry and their growing affection for one another. It was all young and innocent (and rightly so due to their age) but it was also blatantly obvious that the director wanted to show us (the audience) the beginnings of a love story between Dickon and Mary and that clearly he saw the two as eventual endgame as adults.

i had such a crush on his character as a kid and then when i grew up i met a guy who looked like the adult version of him and fell madly in love, the guy i was most in love with, unrequited live 😭 I never realised how much he actually looks like the adult version of him now and hadn’t even realised the resemblance until recently but it’s uncanny lol
