What a beautiful collection! I’ve just starting to collect but only have enough to put on my 4’ vintage aluminum tree so far. It’s addicting! Yours are in great shape too! I was born in 67, so missed the “Atomic” years, but collecting ornaments still takes me back to my wonderful childhood.

It's like i"m in my basement two days from now day after Thanksgiving getting ready to pull the christmas stuff out to begin decorating for the season. Even the old cardboard boxes that hold them, I have many of the sets I see here. My Grandmother and Mother were huge with Christmas, so I inherited all their stuff when they passed. All vintage sets from 1940's- 60's. All the childhood memories putting them up every year. I still do it as I love these over anything from the store's last 20 years. This is what Christmas looks like, Home..

Antique shops are an awesome way to pick up vintage ornaments. A friend of mine runs a shop in a neighboring town, and he's always on the lookout for me for this stuff. Just last week, he bought a huge box of vintage ornaments from the 1920's to the 1950's in a yard sale, and in turn sold the box to me for a more-than-reasonable price. They all show their age, and the hand-painted designs on them are so detailed and exquisite. It boggles my mind that people want to get rid of this stuff! They don't appreciate the fact that they are works of art. Like the saying goes, one person's trash is another's treasure. All I can say is, thanks to these people for allowing me to amass such a huge and ever-growing collection of these treasures!

Wow that is some collection! If I had the money I'd collect them right now. My collection of 1950s purses (lucite and bakalite) were the most extensive collection I've had. I have 80 of them. They were very costly! I still have them.

This video never gets old love coming back to it. Has your collection grown since you made this video?. I too love Christmas and i have collected ornaments.
@70Dallas7022 күн бұрын
@@compactgirl my collection really hasn’t grown. I moved from Illinois to Indiana not too long after this video. It seemed ornaments were plentiful at thrift shops and small towns in Illinois. Not so much where I am now. What I do find are $$$.🤣 thanks!
@compactgirl22 күн бұрын
@70Dallas70 😂, that's cool you find dollars now. I need dollars but I find mines mostly at the local swap meet here in California I do once in a while go thrifting at vintage shops and I once bought on Ebay but most of everything I have came from the local swap meet. Are there any ornaments in your collection you are at awe by and do you have any that you're like wth did I buy those lol. I have some shiny brights that are ugly I was like why did I buy those they are just glitter balls. Anywho your ornaments I do get in awe everytime I come back to your video.
@WadeKingston5 жыл бұрын
Very nice. You have some vintage Shiny Brites and Polish indents that are worth a pretty penny, some of which sell for $30 or more EACH. But I'm guessing you know that.

They are really gorgeous but can be to pricey. You can buy remakes that are every bit as beautiful. They are called illumibrites. The thing is that you have to commit to using C6 lighting and the issues that go along with them to be able to enjoy them.

WOW!! Love coming back to your video!! May I ask, whatever made you start loving vintage ornaments? Thanks! Sue
@70Dallas706 жыл бұрын
Sue7777000 sure! After my mom passed away and my dad remarried, all of our family ornaments went into a storage facility for about 10 years. After my sister and I got them out, we went through them, picked our favorites, and split them up. Seeing them again made me think of all of the great Christmases when my mom was alive. Then I started to notice vintage ornaments at thrift shops, learn about the history of the different styles, and began to start a collection. :)

I'd be curious to know if you ever got your collection appraised by an antiques dealer, and if so, what value did he or she put on it? Also, how old is the oldest ornament in your collection?
@70Dallas708 жыл бұрын
+6672rock No appraisal. I've been picking ornaments up at thrift stores and antique shops for about 6-7 years now. I try not to pay too much. It's crazy what you can collect in a short amount of time. I pretty much stick to 40's - 70's. My oldest is probably from the 20's. I'm starting to get into vintage xmas lighting. Lord help me! :)
@6672rock8 жыл бұрын
+Dallas Street I've gotten into vintage lighting as well. So far, I've got 2 sets of old Paramount bubble lights from the 1940's I believe, and 2 sets of indoor / outdoor lights that are maybe 40's or 50's. I'd like to get my hands on those old tungsten filament lights from the turn of the century up to the 1910's and 20's. Just be careful with usage because it's getting harder to find replacement parts.
