My Vintage Pokemon Binder Collection (So Far)

I forgot legendary collection (which I don’t own much of at all) base 2 binder and some topps and I couldn’t fit modern in so modern will be tomorrow or next day!
Sharing my collection binder journey so far and I know it’s a long way to go but I hope you enjoy!

Definitely original base set. Still on the ropes to start collecting the master set for base though. Pokemon releasing new english sets too fast lol.

I try to keep my collecting as minimal as possible, mostly nostalgia focused. So my favourite sets and the focus of my collecting is primarily Base, Jungle, Fossil. I do have some cards from Rocket & Base Set 2 just from childhood, but I don't feel compelled to complete those sets, at least for now. Base, Jungle, Fossil occupy most of my attention between 1st edition, unlimited, variants, promos, short prints, and errors its a rabbit hole I won't be climbing out of anytime soon. I've determined my focus is cards dated "1999 Wizards" at the bottom, so this includes BJF plus the first five Blackstar Promos. I use a top loader side loading binder to hold the unlimited run of these cards, looks awesome. My first edition holos, variants, promos, are errors are slabbed. I also started collecting Pikachu's with "Wizards" on the bottom, so this includes Base, Jungle, Gym Challenge & Heroes and some of the Blackstar Promos. The Wizard Pikachu's are all getting slabbed, some of them are now currently. I also have a Cubone binder collection and a 151 master set with all the stamped variants. In the future I could see myself going more into wizard prints like Rocket & Gym Series, perhaps even all the WOTC era eventually, but I like to keep my collection refined and narrow, the binders quickly get out of control and I usually end up selling stuff when it feels too cluttered or complicated.

With all the money talk on this channel recently it's very nice to see a video like this. Shows that you are a true collector at heart who just loves Pokemon cards and growing their personal collection. If you can detach yourself as much as possible from making "gains" and making "plays" you will definitely have the most fun in this hobby. That's why it was so fun as a child. When we got cards we never thought about the monetary aspect and just enjoyed the artworks and cool Pokemon. Every pack we opened was a excitement. That's why I also for example don't really keep track of my cards and collection like some people do. Some got all these apps where they input their cards and see their value change every day. Kinda makes a hobby that's supposed to be fun very stressful. If my cards gain value that's nice, if they lose value, I don't mind since the moment I put the money into the card I treat it as if I went out clubbing for example and see the money as gone.

Hey thanks I’m glad you enjoyed it! I think of it as investing because I don’t like the thought of wasting money which I typically do when I open packs and with pull rates it’s hard to call it fun these days but I’m glad you see this side of me. I am an extremely passionate collector but value and my money working for me are definitely important still. I’m glad you enjoyed it because I did too. It feels so good to take a break from plays, market talk etc. Those videos do tend to do well though. I’ll just have to get creative right ? 😎🙏🏼

Great collection, 2 quick suggestion you must have heard 200 times though lol, I highly suggest staying away from rounds ring binders. If they're D ring you're probably fine but round ones are risky. Not to say that they will damage your cards for sure but better safe than sorry right? It's so weird to me seeing a zipper binder to protect from dust that can literally dent the cards inside lol. Also the pages, I know they're cheap but those classic transparent pages aren't that good at their job in many ways, if anything, try buying some black pages from Dragon Shield if you have the chance, seeing the cards inside those make them pop waaaaaaaaay more other than having a nice backing, being side-loading, more clear and so on. They just look 10 times nicer and more high quality, to me at least :V also they're like 50 cent each so even changing the whole collection wouldn't be that difficult to be honest. Once more though, a lot of great great cards, grats!

Haha thanks homie yeah I know my binders might seem dated but they are supposed to look that way to give the OG feel. I think if I did ever sell them (not saying I would) they would give off that OG collectors stash vibe. I love buying and finding old ring binder collections. You’d be shocked how good of condition some cards stay in, in those kinds of binders. Regardless thanks for watching and everyone definitely agrees with you so far 😂😎🙏🏼

Please get Vaultx binders, and some Vaultx tight fit sleeves along with skme dragon sheild classic Matte cases as well to double sleeve. If i had my cards in a ringed binder like you do it would drive me insane! Just spend the couple hudnred to get proper binders and sleeves to give the cards justice!

@orionsires very true! My commons are still in my 1999 pokemon binder that's a 3 ringed binder, I just took all the holos out, but I understand the nostalgia of it. Some of my sleeves are all messed up and cut open, but those cards have been In there forever, but I do understand! 😀

It’s a lot to undertake completing every set. I’m not only missing commons and uncommons and holos but then there EX cards and secret rares, and reverse holos. It could genuinely take me a lifetime to do it all. I appreciate you watching though and supporting the channel! Nothing wrong with living vicariously through others. I'm really enjoying this long video, taking it in chunks during meals. I've been a yugioh collector for a while and I collected the sets I was around for back as a kid (LOB-AST) and am now looking to do the same for pokemon (roughly base-neo destiny). Do you have any tips for getting started? In yugioh I initially collected unlimited and ended up replacing for first ed which felt kinda like spinning my wheels since I have to find a home for the unlims now. I work in music so I already have a hobby that is also a job and want to keep collecting as a pure hobby so I'm trying to really think this through so I don't need to be selling a bunch of mistaken purchases like I did with yugioh. Pokemon is a lot more expensive so I wouldn't be doing 1st ed base but i'm unsure on the others. An advantage to unlim pokemon is they do seem to make the reprints stand out a lot more than yugioh does, but the historical significance behind 1st ed is still significant when looking for "forever collections." It seems like a good time to get in market wise and I don't want to go to slow and miss the low point. I'm also unsure if starting buying partial sets, singles or collections is better. You mentioned how you can't find good deals on collections anymore. I've noticed looking around on facebook marketplace it's either resellers or a bunch of destroyed commons with a rubberband asking for hundreds of dollars lol. There's even this dude that posts about wanting to buy your collection everyday on there. Seems like the competition is too intense for anyone not looking to resell. Sorry for the rapid fire questions, I've really been mulling over a lot with this and don't have any connections in pokemon yet. Trying to really think it through this time.

Hey so I’m really glad you asked - unlimited is fairly affordable to complete so I do recommend it. I would also like 1st edition but it will take a long time. I would just take your time with it and don’t simply look for the best deals because that’s how I ended up with a lot of damaged holos in my binders. I know better now but at the time I just wanted the cheapest cards to build sets affordable. Buy single holos unlimited, then buy the bulk from “Lot” listings so you can get most of them in one move. One thing that helped me a ton was buying collections and that’s just getting harder and harder to do lately unfortunately. You’ve got plenty of time I don’t think the hobby is getting more expensive prices are actually cooling down right now quite a bit so you’ve got that going for you! Modern sealed product is something you may want to take a gander at for investment purposes but vintage is my favorite. I too have binders for unlimited Yugioh I might show those eventually! Great comment and I hope my response is helpful! Also selling is an important part of collecting IMO. It helps keep you liquid and moving money around so your money is working for you. When collecting becomes hoarding I feel it’s a bad look and hard to break that cycle. 😎🙏🏼

I think to keep the hobby a hobby I'm going to stay out of investing but what you said about collecting becoming hoarding made a lot of sense to me. I have a bunch of unlimited yugioh I don't need now and I had this idea in my head to just hold it for a spike or something but the more I think about it the more I realize that's silly when I could be using them to help with the new Pokemon journey. It's dumb to hold cards I don't need that other people will enjoy and the hoarder in me wasn't seeing that. I appreciate it

Thanks for sharing your collection this was epic. Looking back I really like the gym challenge and gym heroes and how they’re associated with a trainer kind of like the trainer galleries today. I’ll have to get copies of Rockets Zapdos and Blaine’s Moltres for myself one day!

I honestly have no clue what my collection is worth but I like to think realistically it’s probably worth 100k or more just based on the grail cards, alone I feel there’s probably 60k in my singles and maybe another 40k in decks, binder collections and modern binders but who knows haha I’m not bothered by that question at all but just not sure what I could truly get for it all if I sold it 😂 I’m just guessing off the top of my head. hey orion ive been really enjoying your content and im gonna be starting to work on my ex emerald binder/master set and other binders. im gonna be going for moderatly played but mostly trying to get lightly played cards i feel like thats a good card condition to go in a binder. otherwise ill get near mint to grade whats your thoughts on this? keep up the great content!

Hello, I completely agree with the positive vibes in your comment section. Your collection is genuinely impressive. your Pokémon card collection is truly remarkable. It's heartwarming to see someone treasure their hobbies as much as you do. Your video has sparked an idea in me to perhaps share my own collection. Like I've mentioned before, I use D-ring binders for my cards, arranging them in a way that either narrates a story or simply flows well. It's a project I'm really proud of, and I love how it turned out. I've amassed over 1000 cards, yet I've never really shared them or maintained a trade binder. Your video, however, has sparked a desire in me to possibly create a video to display my own collection. My love for Pokémon extends beyond just cards. I own several cherished items: a Trainer Red with Pikachu figure from Kotobukiya, a Master Ball by the Wand Company, a Lugia figure, a unique Sleeping Mew Pokéball, and a Talking Pokédex from Etsy. I also cherish some vintage Pokémon pins, a special Pikachu and Pichu pin from the New York Pokémon Center grand opening, as well as some Shikishi art of my favorite Pokémon and stunning Pokémon lenticular art. I call this collection my top tier showcase. It brings a surge of happiness every time I enter my room and lay eyes on it. Possessing these items is truly wonderful. While the mix of custom and authentic pieces adds a unique touch, careful purchasing, especially considering the cost, the sheer joy and excitement it brings is worth it. I really love the vintage trading card sets, particularly the old ex holos that go all the way to the borders. However, there's a particular Lugia card from Aquapolis, shared by PokeSunTCG. It features a mesmerizing swirl near its mouth, truly a sight to behold. Similarly, your Rayquaza Gold Star card, with its holo orb charging up a devastating attack in his mouth. Seeing cards like these really makes me happy. So, I've got to say, my favorite set is now the ones with swirls and orbs.

I too love other things that aren’t cards but are Pokémon but I try to “limit” my purchasing to cards for investment purposes. If I could I would buy everything and anything Pokémon lol. It’s a special card because it’s the international (UK) print and has the holo orb in his mouth it’s such a good holo pattern. I don’t know if it’s the best card I have but it definitely could be. It will be interesting to see how many more gold star rayquaza are out there soon to get graded.. that will be a big factor in its value moving forward. I really want a psa version it’s bothering me so much. 😂

In terms of regrading there’s not too much other than maybe my crystal nidoking but I think most the grades I have are pretty accurate for the most part I want to focus soon on selling and making the hobby more sustainable long term so I can continue to collect hard core. I can’t keep collecting at this pace without selling too. Grading with psa in general should come in handy ! My 151 cards are all 9/10 contenders! So who knows 😎🙏🏼

@@orionsires I'm a complete poke boomer as well I'm collecting a ton of japanese gym & neo slabs rn. They really hit different. I have a ton of modern slabs but the ones I stare at all the time are the vintage ones, even though the art on many modern slabs is arguably better!

The Gengar ex is probably the most valuable card I had in there condition and rarity wise. But yeah cool to look back at the progress but definitely a LONG way to go as far as completing all the sets. Such a pity I didn’t swap the cards at collect a con before going… forever will be bothered by that lol 😂

Just ring binders with a nice leather finish nothing crazy I personally have never had any issues with the binders that have rings. I think a lot of people are just using no ring binders and claiming they are perfect but my ring binders are cool because you can take and add pages to them easily 😎🙏🏼

Awesome cards Orion. But be careful with ring binders for your cards. The rings can damage them over time. I use ring binders only for my graded cards, I store my graded PSA, CGC cards in plastic pockets for postcards. 🙂

it’s not a 10 though probably a 7 or 8 at best trust me if it was super clean it would have already been graded and maybe I should still get it graded but it’s doing fine in the binder and I like the way the binder looks personally. Everyone has their preferences ! I’m an OG style collector so ring binders make me nostalgic 😎😂
