Thanks for sharing, Cameron! My first luxury watch piece was the Speedy, but I came across this as a result of starting work in the space industry - wanted to celebrate this career change with something nice. This piece has opened up the flood gates for horology and watch collecting for me (something I was never aware of until I started to research more). For anyone wanting to get started on this hobby: BEWARE; It can be a very expensive hobby to get into, but as long as you’re doing this for yourself, and not for the value proposition, then I hope you enjoy it.

Hey Cameron, as a watch collector and founder or member of a number of watch collector groups I’ll say the following: The Hodinkee IWC is hands down the best IWC in the past 5+ years. Brilliant watch, I missed buying it when it was released and I regret it to this day. Selling for well over the price you paid for it. Enjoy it and keep it. The Omega with date and moon phase is brilliant. The Explorer has been in production since the mid 1950s, your specific model is highly valued for the Tritium markers. I would suggest you not trade up to the new model. Take yours for pressure testing, any good watchmaker can test how well the gaskets can keep water out of the Oyster case. That watch is a tool watch and is meant to be worn and used. I have a 1980s Submariner and it gets used and worn. The Speedy is very nice and classic, The Moon watch. Great collection, enjoy
@Milofchg2 жыл бұрын
Great collection, very similar approach to mine. I downsized my collection and kept my Speedy, Explorer 36 (2021), vintage Seiko Chariot from 1972, and a Submariner 5513. I noticed your Explorer is a holes case. Let me tell you… that is a true rare example. Holes case Explorers from 1990-1991 are rare. Not many holes case Explorers made, even the clasp is rare. Only 6 month- one year production. It’s almost as rare as the Blackout version. Difficult to find. It’s a very overlooked rarity, even Hodinkee overlooked the holes case version. Congrats sir, keep this one please.
@CameronO2 жыл бұрын
Kevin, your collection sounds great! 5513 and a 124270! Awesome. I also found they skipped over the holes case rather quickly in their explorer article. It took me a long while to find out mine was a slant 'S' which was only a small batch in 1991 as well I believe?. Clasp is P-serial which i believe is late 91 too.

That Omega triple calendar is the standout for me, and yours is in great condition. Just my 2 cents, but I think you may regret selling the Rolex Explorer with the tritium lume for a new model (the vintage charm is lost in those new ones). Nice collection! Do you find redundancy w/ the IWC and the Explorer? I had a similar pairing at one point and decided to keep the explorer. I can't believe you let go of the 1675 and the 16710! And that UG chrono was fire!
@CameronO2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike. On the redundancy. I am usually someone that is about functionality and technically they both do exactly the same thing, though I love the legibility of the IWC. There's something to be said for a face with full numbers. Maybe it's me but means no brain power required to read the time hah Then the Explorer, well i don't know what it is. It just oozes class for me. So unassuming, comfortable and solid. The IWC actually doesn't feel that bomb proof which is odd. The 16750 i really regret as it was my birth year. The pepsi, well you can still find these days. But it's a journey and I've loved it!

Lovely collection, I’m lusting after the iwc spitfire at the moment, but it’s out of my price range. So I’ve got myself a Hamilton khaki field black dial automatic, I’ve got it in 38mm and 42 mm , but wouldn’t you it I really would of liked it at 40 mm which of course they only do in the mechanical models.
@Milofchg2 жыл бұрын
I agree the Spitfire is one of those watches that when you know, you know. Fortunately you can find a Mark 11-15 for under $4k tops. Pricey but not impossible to get. Just need to save until you’re ready. Once you get yours, it will be a everyday watch. Good luck
@CameronO2 жыл бұрын
Agree with Kevin. Fantastic watch and worth saving for. As a matter of fact the spitfire was probably one of the first watches i ever lusted after, about 14 years ago or so! To this day I love it. If I didn't have the Hodinkee I would have the spitfire. For me 40mm and under is the sweet spot. Kind of goes against the pilot legibility concept but I just can't see myself with 42 or 43mm watches on. Side note, The Hamilton Khaki field watches are a solid choice. Stunning watches

May I ask what are the real-life properties of Ceratanium? I haven't seen any report from someone who wears such case often. I wonder if it is really as scratch resistant and robust as they claim? Thank you for the video!
@CameronO2 жыл бұрын
It is very lightweight. Though the I don't feel it is as indestructible as they say. At least not on this edition. I have marked it recently which I can't get off and I know of one of these that was kind of scratched/chipped from hitting a door handle a few weeks after the owner got it. It had to go back to Hodinkee. I've not had a chance to hold any of the other Ceratanium models to compare though

That’s a very solid collection. Make sure you don’t accidentally dox yourself in one of these videos! I’m not a big fan of any particular brand but have somehow ended up with an all-Omega collection: a Speedmaster and three Seamasters (1960s vintage, 36mm Aqua Terra and a “Peter Blake” 300). None is particularly hype-worthy but they get me through pretty much any occasion and all get worn regularly. If I were to have just one watch I’d probably choose a 36mm Explorer I, but I’d only pay retail for it. Prices have got ridiculous in recent years.

I got the new exp1 this year. In case you haven’t, be sure to try it on before you sell your old one. The clasp on the new one doesn’t open out as long as the older vintage clasps so even when it’s sized to my 17cm wrist, it really struggles to get past my hand when taking it on and off. Quite frustrating really, I don’t have big hands at all. there are times I wished Id just bought a 90s birth year 14270. But otherwise it’s an outstanding piece and I like how tapered it is. Your exp1 looks to be in great condition and could continue to take a beating for years still.

Amazing collectioin, i would go by the AD more often and show them pieces like your Omga, i think that story with the 10th of August is something they will appriciate. I would also sell the explorer to have cash on hand incase you get the call. Prehaps buy an omega strap or something as well to get that little bit of history. I belive a collector like you should be able to get an explorer in under a year.
