Blimey, I thought I was bad! I only had 3 palette sets to start with, then I started buying tube paints and loose pans to make my own sets, using a variety of empty palettes, a wooden box similar to a cigar box, mint tins, lozenges tins, larger tins that come with souvenir soaps which I occasionally get when on holiday somewhere, bicycle puncture repair tins, an old Helix school geometry set empty tin and an empty Caran D'Ache metal tin meant for storing a few pencils. I also bought an empty White Nights travel palette too (the same one shown in the video), it's very tough and a lovely size that holds 12 full pans. I use that as my go-to Urban Sketchers box. I also have the Mejillo box, which I bought empty too. The mixing tray in the lid can be removed to provide even more mixing area on the lid itself and use the inner tray loose or on the same table. It's great that it's got a hermetic seal on it. It's a bit big to fit in a small bag though, but it's very light. My three original paint sets were these: 1. The first one you showed by Van Gogh (15 colours), which now has a mixture of brands in it. I still use it, although the clasp mechanism is damaged due to over use! 2. Ladoga - 24 colours (Nevskaya St. Petersburg, but a cheaper version of the White Nights range) - but they didn't come in a palette, so they are now used in various made-up palettes I have. 3. Kuretake - 36 colours (these come in a box and have large, but shallow pans). The colours are intense and quite opaque. My wife bought me this for a birthday present about a year after I started on my watercolour journey. She also bought me the Daniel Smith Essentials set of 6 x 5ml tubes. 🥰 I hadn't seen a Sennelier Pallete set before, I don't use many of their paints. I tend to make up different palettes to use for different types of paintings or just to experiment. I guess I'll eventually home in on just a few sets, hopefully soon! I love your handmade wooden palette, that is the way to go in my opinion. KZbin artist Michael Solovyev uses something similar, they are eco-friendly wooden palettes, made in Thailand I think. He's a Daniel Smith guy and he tends to use the same colours most of the time. An advantage to that is he knows from years of experience how to mix from those colours. I have too many colours, so I haven't learnt how best to mix them or which ones I favour the most. You have great skill at mixing and getting the effects you want. It's a beautifully natural way to paint. I think I might be better off by trying some of these smaller size paintings and to focus more on mixing my colours from a smaller palette and keep the shapes simple..

I have Winsor and Newton set, one in black long metal box like you have here and I will not ever swap it to anything else. Over years free spaces left to fill got it's extra colors not included in initial 18 colors set and now I have every WN color in it. The box doesn't rust, paints are vibrant, smooth and last forever. Too many times before I was getting powdery rubbish that could have been rubbed off with a finger or no coverage at all. WN is my best friend. 👌💟

For the mint box, I like to coat the inside of the lid with white nail polish. It's essentially the same as an enamel coating and keeps it from rusting, and provides a nice white mixing surface

I have to ask my wife for a white nail polish and try this. Thanks😇

Wow, I have the same daler rowney aquafine palette and I love it as much as my Van Gogh, some colors even better such as ultramarine blue. The brush that comes with it is nicer too. Very usable when drawing outside. Wish you give this little palette a little more chance😊

A I got a van gogh and a white nights. Am looking to buy more of the last cause its a very affordable professional one, but will definetly keep restocking the former for tests and smaller projects. Maybe one day I will get my hands on a Daniel Smith set, or that little sennelier one

Nice! Excited for Part 2! Also, at 4:45, you don’t need to pull on the cap to open: just pinch the two levers together (like a clothespin) and it’ll open up with ease! Rangeela Tempera colours used to have the same container design. :)

I had put my watercolours (Camlin Artist) into a Brustro box and the box is entirely rusted within a year. The rust particles spoils the paints too. Brustro has such cheap quality stuff that it’s useless. 😅

I don't know where you are but these palettes are sold at Cornelissen UK without the Schmincke logo, there is a version with water reservoir and one without. Not cheap though. Gerstaecker in Germany also has them as a limited edition right now, empty with the Schmincke logo.

@@verot8444 thank you! yeah im aware of those but they’re so expensive compared to the standard 12 half pan metal box palettes. i wish someone would make it similarly priced. im guessing something to do with Fome copyright or something. thanks again though~ i appreciate it!

Why would you make a youtube video where you don’t talk & you have to read the captions? That lowkey defeats the purpose. i only complain bc i don’t read super fast so this is a pain in the ass for me, but i want to know your reviews and opinions so i guess i’ll suffer through. just weird tho
