This is my way to mix acrylic colors, but I love to mix and blend colors directly on the paper. So I receive also a color harmony.
Colors I used in the video
Phtaloblue Cyan from Schmincke
Qinacridone Nickel Azo Gold from Golden heavy Body and liquid
Prussianblue from Schmincke
Vandyckbrown from Golden
Pyrrolorange from Golden
White
You can take any colors you want. I recommend you take a maximum of 4 colors plus white and black. So you are not overwhelmed with too many colors and can concentrate purely on the painting process later.
In addition, it is a lot of fun to see what can be made from these selected colors for mixtures. I not only mix on the palette but also always on my paper. By mixing these colors with each other, you get a harmony that will make it easier for you to bring a unity into your painting.
However, it is very important that you have mixtures in light, medium and dark values on your palette. I also recommend using cool and warm color variants. A painting lives from these differences in tone values and color temperatures.
Mixing before the painting process has the advantage for me, that I can then get 100 percent involved in the painting process and not be distracted by looking for colors. I have direct access to all my colors.
If, at a later point in time, I feel like I'm bringing in a new color, I can still do that.
