How happy you get when talking about the people you "adopted" is just, so pure and genuine. I'd look through them with you, lol. I saw in Kris video, you said you like to put intentions into your crystals. You're enchanting crystals and it's absolutely beautiful you were just naturally drawn to do it.

As I studied photography, I fell in love with looking at old pictures and wondering what their lives were like. But in terms of the not smiling thing, it was because of how long the exposures had to be. Holding still and holding a smile for as long as they had to to ensure they weren't blurry in the final image, was tiring so that's why a good chunk of portraits from way back then made them all look like they had a stick up their butts haha. Some people even had sticks behind their heads to hold their heads still for these images lol always loved fun facts like that

Thank you for commenting this! That's a really cool fact!

I came here to leave this exact comment lol. I think it's so interesting that they had to hold so still they couldn't smile. When I was younger before I'd studied photography I always wondered this too

@@hollowfyre haha right? I alwqays have a chuckle imagining if someone had an itch or something in the middle of a photoshoot
@leslieedwards60113 ай бұрын
It was also because for decades getting your photo taken was treated as solemnly as get your portrait painted. It's the lack of smiling lasted such a long time after the exposure time reduced as the technology progressed.

I love your "instant ancestor" collection. As a docent at a local history museum, I've worked on recovering the history of many people in photos and albums like yours. Last Summer, I worked on an album owned by a woman who passed in the 30s before having children. Her album led us to rediscover information about her and her family. We also learned she was a post card collector, and was part of an organization where strangers would send each other postcards by finding a persons name and address in a catalog. If you ever visit Oregon, find my museum in the little town of Joseph. I'd love to help you rediscover the histories of your instant ancestors.

Adore the old photos! If there are names, you might be able to track down descendants who would love them! As a genealogist (who didn’t know my family at all), it would be like winning the lottery finding photos! It warms my heart that you save them! Love the loft!❤

I think she said most (if not all) of those photos were from families whose line ended and there was no next of kin to take the belongings. That's why she adopted them, so they wouldn't be forgotten.

I love milk glass and the green and lemon depression glass. I've seen pink but haven't seen red before! Absolutely gorgeous. Love your taste. Don't trust 23 and me. Ancestry is the best one. My mother and I sent one of her cats DNA in to see how realistic they were. Or as they proved weren't. Mom was informed she was a female..got that one right, but apparently her cat is mostly French with some Welch like 13 percent I believe. So her cat has excellent lineage lol. My mom is cherokee,chocktaw, a tiny bit of Nez pierce and scotch and Irish. She was so mad when they tried to say she was mostly French until I reminded her it was bandits DNA lol

I think it is absolutely beautiful that you have these photos, and memories of these total strangers. Its so kind, caring and amazing that you are continuing their lives beyond the grave. People took photos for a reason, and they should forever be cherished. Such a beautiful act and sentiment

Love everything about it. So cozy but still so you. Fun fact about old photos, the exposure would take so long while taking the picture that the goal was just to remain as still as possible. Smiles could actually result in blurred, possibly unintentionally creepy, results. My grandfather was the photographer for the town I grew up in for decades. One of my favorite, bittersweet, memories was when we had to clean out his studio and the thousands of negatives and photos he had. To this day, I will often meet a new friend or coworker or whatever and they will have an old photo of a family member with my grandfather's name and studio stamped in the corner and it's always a fun conversation starter. Love your instant ancestors 🖤🖤🖤

Happy Birthday fellow February baby!!!!! My birthday is today!! I would love to read your book, I love reading in general but ghost stories, paranormal , fantasy are my favorites!! I love how you take special care and consideration for peoples things that have passed. Making them your family touches my heart and here is why.... I work at a cemetery and I see a lot of people be basically forgotten once they pass. I mean like they have family but the family doesn't come to the cemetery for the burial they just let the funeral homes drop them off. I go and stand at those burials so they at least have someone there as they are put to rest. I tell you some of the things we see families do to each other when there is a death breaks my heart. My cemetery also has a funeral home on site and I help out there as well. From helping move someone into their casket, painting beautiful ladies nails so they look nice, fiixng hair, etc. Basically anyhting I can help with. When I am helping or looking at pictures of their lives that families bring in to set up for the funeral visitations and services (which is amazing to watch their lives progress from childhood, to adulthood, to marriage and starting their families and holding their grandbabies) I talk to them. I have a few people I know tell me that is strange but I don't think it is. I totally believe in the afterlife, I saw my grandmother's ghost and had other experiences that just don't leave room for doubt in my mind on whether it is real or not!!!! Love you!!! Keep up the amazing work!!!!

Oh the albums of different people & their lives is so fascinating to me! I love looking back at people’s stories and wondering what things were like at that time! The stories I could tell you that have been passed down for generations and the information that I have gained in the years of my family & heritage. My great nana was born in 1898 in Maine. She was born in a teepee she lived to be 98 years old and I remember laying on the floor of my nana and papas home and her teaching me how to colour. She was a petite quiet women but I remember this story like it was yesterday. She was born a twin and she was adopted out and separated from her sister and she never knew her until she was much older. She came to New Brunswick Canada and her sister went to Ohio the eventually found eachother due to both marrying military men and brought back together without really knowing either one existed. But she used to tell me stories about our heritage as a six nation community & it’s beautiful. I now look at my nana and I see that same petite lady soft spoken & I am told I am the taller version of both. I am proud of my now very mixed heritage and even tho that is not your “heritage” it’s amazing that you take it as proud as you have! I remember the display at your home we came and signed one of your signs and left a small donation under the box. Thank you ❤️ I would love to sit and seek through all of those photo books of what those families lives looked like! Giving them a home will always make them feel at peace ❤️

I absolutely love old photos. They always make me sad though, thinking about people's lives that are no longer and how quickly time goes by. I once found a large black and white photo in frame of a handsome, young soldier dated from the very early 1900s. I finally had to let him go bc I swear he started haunting me, which is why I'm commenting. I think some of your adopted ancestors could be behind your haunted candles. They probably like seeing the soft glow and flickering, idk. Love the loft btw 💓

I also like to collect old photos of people long gone, I'd love to see a tour 🥲 It was so insane to hear you talk about your love for these pictures, it felt so familiar to how I feel about them.. I almost feel a sense of responsibility to at least keep them safe and to appreciate the moments captured, feeling a bit of a heavy heart that they didn't get to be appreciated by the family they were meant for. Always left wondering who they are or how I could possibly find their loved ones and return them to their rightful owners. But I'm glad I get to have em, too. There are a few that are my favorites and have always sparked something inexplicable in me. It's almost like I'm reminiscing on my own photographs.
