Fun fact about Mad Catz, in 2017 they went out of business but came back after line workers in their factory created a holding company to buy Mad Catz at liquidation prices, and brought the company back as a worker-owned operation that focuses on a small selection of pretty decent quality PC gaming peripherals.

The best 360 camera functionality has got to be Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise. Long before Animal Crossing had amiibo's to give you specific villagers, the camera allowed you to scan cards that you printed out in order to get special Piñatas, including ones based on Killer Instinct characters (remember, this was the 360, several years before the reboot on XBone).

I'm the owner of the DJ Hero Fan Server on Discord, which is the same place that hosts original non-OST mixes for the DJ Hero games. On that fight stick. Usually on those strain relief cables, I've found that the strain relief is a separate part from cable, and the cable is just held in place by a zig-zag path molded into the plastic of the controller. If you open the controller up, you might find that you can pull the cable out of that zig-zag part and pull a little more of it into the controller. That would keep the frayed part from being exposed. Then just tuck the cable back into the zig-zag.

Derek bringing up how the DJ Hero turntable controller was PS2-compatible reminds me of the fact that the final official release for the PS2 in the entire world, Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 in Europe, came out on November 8, 2013, literally a week before the PS4 launched on November 15 (in North America). Just imagine if a publisher managed to get one more PS2 game out, because then it could have realistically come out alongside PS4 games!

@@carlcouture1023 In all fairness, they're more or less the same length of time from the launch of the console (13 years). However, the Wii U had a highly truncated life, so I think it's still more impressive that the PS2 not only lasted for its own generation's life (2000-2005/2006), but literally the entire next generation's life, which was honestly longer than needed (2005 to 2013), to start with.

One of my favorite things I learned about the Donkey Konga bongos this past year: the mic in the center can react to any sound near it, not just clapping. If you blow air near it while playing the Kongas, it creates some great rapid clapping motion, which is great for the long note sections to rack up points.

19:37 I remember being surprised to see Activision announcing DJ Hero for the PS2 alongside a controller and other spin-off games, because back then everyone thought that Sony and other third party studios would drop support on the PS2 in 2009. I still recall reading about the tie-in to the then-latest Harry Potter movie being the very last PS2 game to ever release. Little did we expect that Sony would continue to give support to the console for four more years, to the point of still getting new releases by the time the PS4 launched. Then again, the Wii outlived the PS3, the 360 and the WiiU thanks to Just Dance, so what are console generations at this point, lol.

So what I've read about the Saturn Twin Stick (I have one boxed up but haven't had an opportunity to mess around with it yet); the left stick works like a d pad, each of the right sticks 4 directions input a different face button (left = c for example), and then the two triggers and top buttons are inputs for the last 4 buttons (the other 2 face buttons and triggers). So theoretically it should work with every game.

Similar to the DJ Hero controller, I have a Beatmania IIDX controller for the PS2. I think it's compatible with the Japanese Beatmania games, but only one of them came out in North America. I enjoyed it well enough. Also have to give the Maraca controllers for Samba de Amigo a shout-out. The Dreamcast bundle I got on eBay years ago had two sets of aftermarket maraca controllers, so it's technically possible to play two player if you have enough room. In reality, the ultrasonic rangefinders they use tend to get really confused when you try that, like playing the Wii in a room with bright window. My number-one most desired controller will always be the Odyssey gun controller. No way I'll ever be able to afford one, though.

I hear your inclusion of a sample of music, from TimeSplitters. Thanks for that. Great game.

One of my favorite uses for the Wii Balance Board was for a Japanese horror game called Night of Sacrifice (Ikenie no Yoru) which has Wii Balance Board compatibility so you had to physically walk in place to move and stamp your feet to run from monsters. Not a super functional game for the most part but playing it on a Balance Board makes it totally worth it.

Hell yea, that ASCII Grip looks great! I'm all for single handed controllers for JRPGs and VNs. If it lets me lay on my side on the couch and enjoy those less twitchy games in perfect lazy comfort it gets my vote. This is also why we need key rebinding on consoles too! Lots of JRPGs only regularly use 2 face buttons, so let me bind those on the shoulder and play off hand!

I suck at fighters too, but I actually do use my fight sticks. I find them really satisfying to use with puzzlers, and arcade ports of course.

My favourite weird gaming input device is definetely Zboard. Its a keyboard with a seperate section, where all the keys are layed out for intuitive game controls and it has interchangable plates, so it changes the keyboard drastically. I had a doom 3 plate with all the keys being replaced with cool as HELL doom 3 fonts and having a high resolution hellknight and lost souls all over it. And i remember there being a dozen or so of other game-themed plates, for age of empires 3, starcraft 2, etc. Great keyboard, and it is still unique to this day, as far as i know

I LOVE weird ass accessories and controllers too, now the question is do we start a revolution or a support group? You know someone who understands it's probably useless but will still encourage you to go through with buying it. My fav PS2 & Gamecube controllers are the Spongebob one's, still looking for the Patrick versions.

Derek, your channel is now one of my two favs for gaming, with the other being Scott the Woz. Both are a bit of a throwback to bygone KZbin days. My favorite used to be the channel that you once emulated when you initially started the channel, but his channel now just seems to be mailed in at this point unfortunately. Hell of a run though...

The glove reminded me of the Power Glove. It is so good it is bad! LOL Loved you said Kelsey for PAX instead of Cody. You picked the better one of the two to buy from :p

I had that six-button stick for Genesis. It was the only 2nd controller I had besides the 3-button pad. I don't know how you played Sonic well with that thing, lol.

The recently released Bulk Slash fan translation adds support for the Virtual-On Twin Stick controller. AFAIK it internally works like any other controller so you can get weird with it and see how well it works with other Saturn games too!

years and years ago (it actually might have been because of you), i learned of the ASCII Grip and dreamed of living the high life. flying through overworlds, goblin punching coerls, all while still retaining a free hand for whatever the mind could imagine. And today, the day of the day before New Years Eve, you mean to tell me the d-pad is garbage! hopes dashed, life goals ruined. i guess i must move on and find a new meaning for this bleak existence we call life.

I used to have the SEGA fight stick... Such nostalgia right there :D Speaking of bikes, you should see E-Cycling. Yes, it's actually a thing and there are competitive tournaments for them..... And someone cheated in one competition.
