My Western Painted Turtle's with *New* tank

recently gottin a 30 gallon for my 5 inch western painted turtle Dunker with his gold fish buddies that he had for almost a year now enjoy ;)
this also come from my concern seeing owners keep turtles in shallow water, it isn't healthy for them (they know how to swim)and it is taking them more away from their needs / keeping reptiles means you "have to" simulate thier natural habitat in their eclosure "as much as you can", its not what you think is best for them its about reading books & going on the web learning about were they come from like for example: turtles come from lakes, ponds, streams, and rivers not puddels!

@witzont yes they are born to swim as long as you have some type of dry basking area for it

I see, yea they're really small turtles so I was going to just give it a try. They haven't been eating fish so I plan to keep it that way. I'm just counting on the fact that my fish will grow faster than my turtles. Thanks for the help, we'll see how it goes.

regular aquirm fuliter thig is that the water level so low that the water spills over bigger making it look as if it was a water fall, so yeah just get a regualer one and lower the water level to give it that look like mines

that is a midland painted turtle, you can tell by the yellow belly, and smooth shell pattern

thanx, i luv my turtle. Now the golfish, they been in that tank for too long, he just don't want to eat'em. he used to eat'em but now he justwant food from me thats it. Strange

20 gallon is perfectly good, he or she will enjoy it but bigger the better but for now yes go ahead :) hope Snappy live a long and happy life =]

Why doesn't he eat the goldfish? I hd one a looong time ago and he at goldfish. The were smaller, but still. Nice tank.

don't worry about the pleco i have one in my tank also he just hidding but anyway the pleco wont be killed by your turtles b/c he literally to hard for them lol the fish may get harrassed, possibly may get eaten when the turts get bigger, turtles that R fed offtend with pellets wont be intrested in the fish but sometimes that want help though so its up to you if you want to test it out. The fish in my tank were ment to be eaten i didn't want them as pets but my turtle don't them neither lol.

he is not a baby he full grown but i bought him at place called davey jone's locker a local petstore that sell mostly aquirum supplies

lol 30 gal depends on where you buy it but averaging it up, it should only be $45 and yeah a good dual filter would be perfect

Owning reptiles is about stimulating natural habitats but i do disagree with a few things in the description box. You say turtles are mainly from lakes, ponds, streams, rivers ect. that is true however but keep in mind these are captive turtles and captive-bred turtles which means they were born in a aquarium and thats all they ever have known its not as if they were in an actual lake, pond, or stream so being a tank with shallow water or with deep water is all they will ever know.

Hey I'm getting two baby red ear sliders (about 3 inches) and I want to put a pleco and my two comet tailed goldfish (about 1 3/4 of an inch.) What are the chances of them getting eaten/harrassed? The tank will be 30 gallons.
