This video is a GAME CHANGER. I’ve been setting my hair for YEARS using the “dry your hair and then wet it again” method because so many tutorials warned against the idea that otherwise, the hair would not get dry. Um. Just. No. I would set my hair multiple times in a week using that method because my curls just didn’t have the staying power. I was so frustrated. I have tried this method twice now and I’m FLOORED at how long my curls last. Christine, you are the best and I’m grateful for all the hard work and info and love you put into your videos. You rock.🥰 PS the flax seed setting lotion is better quality and much cheaper than anything pre-made. 🙌

@@TheGlambassador I'm really glad I did watch it. I really did have a hard time with my hair actually drying, so I ignored this for a long time. Turns out I just needed to use more curlers with very thin sections basically the width of the curler.

I used to wet sets when I was younger and then saw so many videos where ladies said to dry your hair and do a set with just setting lotion so I have tried that for years. It has never given me a strong set. Seriously love this video. Thanks so much for the info!! I am currently sitting in my wet set now and i am taking it out after 24 hours.

When I did not have a hair dryer, I did set my hair damp especially living in a humid environment it takes me 4 hours to dry my set. And when I set my hair wet it did not dry even when I had the rollers in for two solid days that was when my hair use to be thicker when I was younger. Over the years my hair has thinned, and my hair is on the wavy side if I do not set my hair, it becomes frizzy. I do not have layers in my hair and have been drying my hair slightly before I roll my hair and I did notice my curls did not last. Now that I have moved to Texas there are days when it does become humid here but not as bad as when I was living in Chicago. The good news is my hair is on the thin side and it does try fast. Now after watching your tutorial, I will try setting my hair completely wet and see how my hair will behave in the new environment. And I too prefer rolling my hair from the bottom up I never got the hang of rolling my hair from the top up, plus it's really tough to roll especially with long hair. And I too roll my hair in the back across so that the rollers are net to each other. And I have been setting my hair like this since the mid-2000s.

I’ve never had success with setting dirty hair or using setting lotion. My best sets are freshly washed and completely wet hair. I like to give it at least 12 hours to dry and pin curls placed with clips reduces the amount of frizz (rollers create a lot of frizz in my hair). Every hair type is different and the only way to find the best approach is to try them all.

The science is sciencing! I need to try this! I pin curl/roller set for years. Always damp bc "it might not dry otherwise". Plus I fortunately have a lot of hair. I pin curl for a good 1 ½hour. Still only one, max 2 days of good curl. Super frustrating for the time I invest. I will absolutely try this. If this works I'm willing to sit under the vacuum attachment like my mother and grandmother did =D

Your video is a great help!! thanks!! I live in a humid place, and from watching other tutorials I only learn how to set my hair by what you say, damp set or mostly dry set. So my curls start to fall just after 1 hour. Before seeing yours video, I think its probably because my hair spray is not strong enough for me. I used a lot of time to search how to keep the curls stay as long as possible but it comes to nothing. Thanks again for your detail descriptions. I can't wait to try it !!!!

I just found this amazing ladies videos and I do encourage everyone to try a true wet set, it saves a lot of time and planning in comparison to starting with dry hair. Unfortunately it won’t work for everyone I have bleach blonde hair and it simply wouldn’t dry overnight even with tiny sections but I’ve done vintage hair for almost 2 years now and luckily if you have damaged hair then starting with dry hair will probably last you all week no problem. I assume it is because the disulfide bonds in our hair are already weakened, absolutely try it wet first because it’s so much easier. ❤
@TheGlambassador

Most hair will not dry overnight, it usually takes at least 24 hours for most hair types to dry. And there are bonnet dryers that help to dry the hair if it needs to be done faster.

That’s my bad, I watched this video at least twice to the end and my brain still said it was supposed to be 12 hours. 🤦‍♀️ Thank you so much for letting me know it’s 24 hours I’ll definitely try this again, I do stand up pin curls for my whole head so I think my best bet is to do them as early as possible in the morning so I’m sleeping on them much later. 🤞❤

I use the pincurl method, because of the long time spongeroller sets need to dry. It is a little more diffcult in the beginning, but after a while it is absolutly easy. And sleeping with a pincurlset is a little more comfortable.

Hi Christine..... it needs improvement, but definitely felt so much more secure. My hair is way too long at the sides (a left-over from a mis-guided 20s inverted bob!), and I do need a horse-shoe cut when the hair-dressers can finally open again. I think until my hair is cut I need a few more rows in the sides. Practice makes perfect! ;)

@TheGlambassador

Technically, yes it would work. But those are made for using under a bonnet dryer. They are super uncomfortable to sleep in. Also they are notorious for pulling out hair and causing breakage. So I would recommend using sponge/foam/pillow rollers if you are going to do a true wet set overnight.

But how to get it to dry :'( My hair needs so many rollers that they cant lay beside each other (to many) and then take 48 hours to dry. I have very thick hair, but the strands are also very dense. Perm and colouring does not work, only henna (I havent done these things in 20 years, because it did not work and I dont want henna since many years now). Do you have drying tips? I have Veronica Lake length and wont get short since the thickness makes my hair look very wide (or I brush and brush until its not as wide, and then it is one wave left, not any curls - after wet set that it). Also, I wonder how on earth others succeed going around life in rollers for 2 days, having winter in Scandinavia, training hunting dogs, needing cap (for wind or coldness) and such and having other things in life than the vintage style. I guess if I had been living in the first part of 20th century, I would have been a "just middle part, braid and go" kind of tomboy, through life. 🤣 I am always happy when I find these odd girls that I can relate to ^_^

I have placed an Amazon order now and I’m excited to try my first foam roller wet set! 🙏 I don’t have naturally curly hair like you’d but I do have a similar length and thickness. Heat curls drop out on me straight away. Wet set pin curls do last, but I experience a lot of frizz. Also, because I need to use such a small sections for the pin curls (otherwise the Bobby pin won’t slide over the loop) the back section of my head ends up getting so stacked and messy, and sleeping on it is awful 😂 Previously I had assumed that I had too much hair for foam rollers, but watching you has given me confidence to try it 💛 It looks so much faster and tidier! I’m hoping the finished result will be a lot more even and polished 🤞

@@HelibearWomble that’s wonderful, I’m sure it will turn out great. And just remember that it takes time for your hair to change into a new curl pattern, so frizz might still be an issue at first. But stick with it, take your time and give yourself some grace. 🥰

I do have a bonnet drier that I will occasionally use to speed things up a bit. But it takes a good 3.5 hours to fully dry using that. I rarely have that much time to just sit there. Plus I try not to use much heat on my hair. But they can be helpful to just sit with it on while I do my makeup the next day just to absolutely make sure it's dry.

(This is long idk if anyone will read the whole thing) I'd love to just use a curling iron but im dyed blonde (and plan on keeping it that way) and I don't want to damage my hair with heat so I've decided to just do wet sets. My first attempt was last night. I slept overnight with it and this morning I took them out and... my sections were too small and also I used smaller rollers so I had a total afro. So I wet it away and just curled with the iron again. I've done another set with bigger rollers tonight (though it was difficult being my hair is 3.5 inches long all around my head) and I hope it turns out better. I'm going for marilyn's shorter hair kinda vibe or like a longish Italian cut look.

Depending on your hair texture, to get a smooth Lauren Becall pageboy, a heat set would probably be best. Either using hot rollers or do a pin curl set using a curling iron. If you don’t have wavy or curly hair you could just do a pincurl wet set. Yes, drying bonnets do work, they can really help to cut the drying time down. If I recall, I was wearing the Maybelline Superstay Lip Ink in Pioneer in this video.
