“Happy Day In Hell” one of the most uplifting dark comedy songs of all time. And I love how even though she’s so sweet and innocent, Charlie can drop those F bombs with power.

Lilith as Adam's first wife is from Medieval Jewish folklore. Basically, she told Adam she wanted to be on top during sex, he refused, so she left to become a sort of demon that attacked children. It was mentioned in the pilot (it's on KZbin - now somewhat non-canon, but still good) that Alastor is known as 'The Radio Demon." Adam here is eating ribs... Yes, Charlie and Vaggie are girlfriends. It's not really made clear here (more-so in the spin-off "Helluva Boss" series on KZbin) that we've got two classes of "demons" here - demons born in Hell, several different species of them, and "Sinners," the souls of dead humans, who can look like almost anything. Sinners are restricted to the Pride Ring, but the native-born demons (like Charlie) can go to any of the seven rings. Most of the characters you see in this series are Sinners, while most in "Helluva Boss" are native-born.

It is infuriating when people accuse Vivienne of "making up this Lilith person" and calling it an insult to Christianity, or even some kind of direct attack. I swear, fans of fiction have more knowledge of their subject than most religious people do of their own religion (and its origins). As for the two classes in Hell, Lute does kind of backhandedly explain that when she says "the only reason you're here is because Daddy gave you and your Hellborn-kind a pardon for an exorcist blade", implying that exorcist angels can only target earthly sinners and not Hellborn. When it comes to earthly sinners' appearance, I think most adopt traits of either how they were killed, or what vice had condemned them to Hell. This we also see more of in Helluva Boss, like the drowned camp counselor who couldn't swim, so now he spends eternity as a mossy lake monster with a liquid belly. I believe this is also not limited to sinners, but also those who were Fallen as well. Spoiler risk on one character, but the signs are obvious to those who pay attention to their design (and if you already know, you already know :P) I just adore how much detail Viv puts in her productions, as even the backgrounds themselves inform the story, if not have stories of their own.

Lilith is actually a super cool religion-lore deep cut! She’s mentioned a few times in a ground of Jewish texts called the “Midrashic Texts.” (Autocorrect really hated spelling that.) The story itself has a few versions, but the one told at the start of the show is the most common one. The story is primarily associated with the Jewish faith, even though Lilith herself isn’t mentioned in the Torah. Honestly props to the writing team for really getting deep into this stuff. Modern religious lore is a super interesting (and admittedly really weird) rabbit hole

I see the show's formula like this: Panty & Stocking + Invader Zim + Animaniacs = HAZBIN. Creator Vivienne Medrano cited Zim creator Jhonen Vasquez as one of her animation influences, while she was always fond of Broadway musicals, so these elements were woven together to help making this show happen. People always compare Hazbin to the music of Disney, but to me personally. I say it's more along the lines of Animaniacs. While that show also involved singing, it's more humorous than the traditional Disney musical.

I dunno why they didn't find a way to show this in the first season, but "Getting Killed" doesn't mean much in Hell unless it's by an Angel You'll (painfully) reform eventually, while getting killed by Angels essentially gets your (barelt conscious) essence splattered across Hell as new environment (whenever you see eyes or teeth in random spots for example)

She was never a human who got to go to either heaven or hell, she is Lucifer's daughter, and she was born after Lucifer was casted away. So, if she was a human she probably would have ended up in heaven like Meesh said. Plus Charlie is the daughter of a (fallen) angel... Also, when you guys said "aren't they all demons" or smtg... some of them are just regular sinners, without any special powers or titles (Alastor is a demon but Angel is just a sinner).

Viv really loves to cast from Broadway. One of her first was James Monroe Iglehart (The Genie from the Broadway production of Aladdin), who had a bit part in the original Hazbin Hotel pilot, but would go on to play Vortex and Asmodeus in her other project, Helluva Boss. Speaking of Helluva Boss, it would also be the first time we hear Alex Brightman as Robo Fizz in episode 2, and Fizarolli in episodes to follow, totally doing his Beetlejuice throat growl :P

Damn, I’m gonna have to do some lore breakdowns aren’t I? This stuff is never explicitly stated in the show, so I’ll let you know to alleviate some confusion. There are a few things to note about how Hell works in this universe. Firstly there are two major types of demons. The first are Sinners, who are humans who have been damned to Hell after death. When they arrive in Hell they gain a demonic form that usually reflects how they died and is designed to make them hate how they look. Alastor is a notable example, seeing how his demon form is that of a deer, referencing how he died in a deer hunting related accident. Sinners cannot reproduce, are confined to the Pride Ring of Hell and are biologically immortal. The only way they can be killed is through the use of blessed weapons, which angels use during the Extermination, explaining why Hell is so overcrowded. The second type of Demons are Hellborn, which are exactly what they sound like. These are demons that were born in Hell. They vary a lot depending on how high up the hierarchy they are, but the lower classes are able to be killed with regular weaponry, whilst royals need the blessed weapons described before. Charlie is the only Hellborn in the main cast of Hazbin, but the sister series, Helluva Boss focuses a lot more on how the lower and upper classes of Hellborn live in this world. The Hierarchy of Hell basically works like this, from highest to lowest: 1. Lucifer. A fallen Angel. The King of Hell and the Sin of Pride. 2. Lilith. The First Woman and Lucifer’s wife. The Queen of Hell 3. Charlie Morningstar. Their daughter. A smol bean. 4. The remaining Six Members of The Seven Deadly Sins. Asmodeus. Satan. Leviathan. Mammon. Beelzebub. Belphegor. They each run a ring of Hell, kinda like Dante’s Inferno. 5. The Ars Goetia. A collection of 72 noble Demon families with very strong magic and rigid sensibilities. 6. Overlords. Powerful demons who have come into being by providing necessary advancements to Hell. Alastor is the Overlord of Radio, because he brought the idea of radio with him to Hell when he died. 7. Sinners. Described above. 8. Hellborn demons. 9. Imps and Hellhounds. The lowest of the low. Often working class or even slaves

Is prison keeper really a good view of Lucifer's job in the series? He doesn't seem to put any restrictions on sinners, he doesn't stop their evil acts, there's no laws to break or consequences. He doesn't care if they live or die, he signed the contract to kill them. To me it seems more like Lucifer placed himself in a position of power once he got to hell. He used his power to make hell an absolute monarchy. Sure, he was punished by heaven and got kicked out, but I find it hard to believe heaven made him king. I think he took that position by force. It would make sense, since he gave the apple out of pride, he thought he knew better than the angels and felt he wasn't listened to. In this new realm he created, he can do whatever he wants without heaven's interference. The only thing he has to do is let them come once a year and let them kill the sinners he doesn't care about. Charlie just reaps the benefits of that power, not the respect. I wonder if she cares about the sinners out of her own compassion or if it's a way to fix her parents mistakes. It could also be that Lilith influenced her opinion in a way. The sinners were at best ignored by Lucifer or actively enabled by Lilith

Heaven seems to think they were uprising and threatening heaven, maybe they thought Lucifer would back them up and bring them there. Or maybe it was Lilith the one that enabled them. In that case he wouldn't be doing a very good job, specially since he's not putting any limits in their behavior. I'm really curious on how things work in the series

Mostly religious folk who get pissy any time Heaven and angels are portrayed as anything but righteous and perfect, and when Hell and demons are portrayed as anything but evil. Considering the show's creator is a big musical theater nut, and virtually every cast member is from Broadway... this show literally CAN'T be anything but a musical lol
