Will never understand--to any extent--the constant derrogation of season one, or of episodic or "childish" shows in general. Perhaps its because I was an adult when Last Airbender premiered and so had been raised in an environment when there was no such thing as non-episodic television, and everything followed the, "Arrive at new place, meet new people, solve their problem, continue on your journey," formula.

@@BonzoDrummer I think for for me, it's not anything inherently wrong with Book 1, which I'd say is a solid 7 or 8 out of 10. In the lore of bending, there are a lot of similarities between waterbending and airbending, in terms of mindset and "ways of facing the bending" so yeah, it's totally understandable that Aang gets it easier on this one. The why you have to go through these episodes to get to the juicy part is actually quite simple in this case. These episodes lay the groundwork for the characters, the world, and the magic system. Every episode establishes something important about one of these elements (with some exceptions). That's why most people will freak if you even suggest skipping episodes; because there are little things that add up later. Establishing these characters as they are, when we do get to the juicy parts, we are with them and understand what this means to them. If they had tried to set up episode 8 where the comet deadline is established in the first episode, we would just say "What are you waiting for Aang? Get to it, what are you complaining about?" Rather than fully appreciating how hard the task will be, what is at stake if they fail (the people we have met along the way), and how great of a burden this is for Aang, who yes is a superpowered being but is also just a child. It's the human factor, not to mention just establishing how this world works. And I know when I say this that everyone is waiting with baited breath for episodes 12 and 13. I stand by my step by step guide. Episode 8 is where the quest is defined Episode 12 is where most people get hooked if they were not already The season 1 finale hooks any stragglers.
@Goomyx14922 жыл бұрын
Yep, there's a reason that you never start a show with its best episodes. There's a reason you don't just skip to the final season of Breaking Bad. You lose all sense of progression, journey, and meaning by just skipping the building blocks.

This is one of those series that sneaks up on you. It starts out just fun and a little silly. Then it gets interesting with world building. As the story unfolds, the characters get more depth and the stakes are gradually elevated. The effect is subtle from episode to episode, but before long it's hard not to end up invested in everything happening on the screen. The first season does have the most childish tone. But it also does the most heavy lifting when it comes to introducing us to the setting, the plot and the main characters. When you get to the later seasons, the value of the first one becomes apparent. At least that's my take when I first saw the series.

The Cabbage guy is basically like Stan Lee in the MCU. You'll see some cameos of him throughout the series and there's a fan theory that he's almost like the "god" of the series

Just as a suggestion for the future seasons: If you continue doing the 5-episode-structure, you'll eventually run into a little trouble because season 3 has 21 instead of 20 episodes. Episode 10 of season 3 in particular is part one of two episodes, so it probably would do well to do episodes 6-11 in one go. That way, when you head into the final batch of episodes (17-21), you'll have a perfect finishing video, because those episodes are literally the finale. Hope we'll get to see you growing to love this show as much as we do!

The more you watch, the more you will love it. You will learn why Uncle Iroh saw the dragon by the end of the season. This show is pretty good about answering all your questions.

Story will get better and stronger, and you'll get a lot more backstory on the characters. Also Uncle Iroh is amazing.

10:12 Very cool you picked up on Iroh being the only other person to see the dragon in spirit form! - there's certainly relevance later This show is like Back to the Future in that everything is quite predictable but not in a bad way. They lean into classic story & editing tropes rather than using them to purposely mislead audiences. It's super satisfying because of how well done the execution & pay offs are.

i know its really early to even suggest this but for the last season you guys should group the episodes like 5, 6,6, and then 4. the episode groupings can help with the fact that season 3 has arcs that are "part 1" and "part" 2 so you guys can watch both parts for each video and the last four episodes are one arc that is ideally seen altogether

The Cabbage Merchant is the ultimate running joke. The same voice actor is even cast for the upcoming live-action Netflix series.

The first half of season 1 is substantially lighter in tone than the entire rest of the show, so I think if you're already both trending towards liking it more from episodes 6-10 then you're in for a treat.
