I can somewhat relate to this guy's situation. After watching many of Dave's videos, one morning I decided to share all that I've learned with my wife in 25 minutes. Big mistake! I could see smoke coming out of her head (information overload), she shut me down for days and I admit that was my fault because of how I presented it. I gave her space and asked her to watch some of Dave's videos, eventually she came around and is fully on board. Baby steps next time...

Lol. Congrats on getting her on board. Also, kudos on expanding a 1 minute read’s worth of info into a 25 min crash course.

I would play the videos in the background. My husband can't help but listen. He wasn't on board at all. We paid off all our student loans and car. Now we are finishing up the savings account and paying off the house. It was hard bc he was always saying that's unrealistic.

Divorce her. Now! My wife always said she was onboard with paying down debt yet her actions were always the contrary. I am in the middle of a divorce now since she started a new small biz and took on over $100k of personal debt behind my back. In addition, she was always spending on herself and the kids. A saver will always lose out to a spender. And she never cared when I told her I couldn’t sleep anymore worrying about the debt.

You need to keep in mind that he hasn't been a good leader in the family financially and needs to work harder to get her on board because of that and have patience with her. Like why do you owe back taxes? Who in the family is self employed and not paying their taxes? Putting your tax money to the side isn't negotiable, it's not something you can dip into even in emergencies. If he want's his wife to follow his plan and leadership he needs to prove himself after creating a mess.
@ChocolateHabanero222 жыл бұрын
You are exactly right. I don't blame her, based on what he said, why she isn't so keen on jumping on board. This debt didn't culminate over night. She has a right to be hesitant and cautious, in my opinion. Women aren't stupid.

Back taxes --- very bad. Get on a payment plan before they come after you. I had a problem years ago, contacted them before they contacted me, got on a plan, got laid off and they just put the plan on hold, I went back to work and called them and we then finished the plan. No problems at all...
@Lon10012 жыл бұрын
onboarding is the issue here. Any time a person tries to drag their spouse onboard of anything there is always going to be resistance and any mistrust will firm up that resistance. They have to decide to get onboard together, that only works by coming up with a mutual plan together.

hugo e But much better if both the marriage partners can agree as to how they're (together) going to spend the money or pay bills. Nothing wrong with them cooperating together at all. Just because one spouse doesn't work outside the home doesn't mean that spouse has no say in how money is spent in the household. Are you a boomer or something? Just curious. Cause you sound like someone from the 50s who thinks that the man should control all the finances, although the real truth is that a lot of times even back then many women did the budgeting of the household accounts even if they were stay at home moms.
