fun fact about this album: this is (technically) the third time it has been recorded, after so many leaks and failed promises from carti himself that's why some tracks sound a little out of place or like "breathers", because they were took from other versions of wlr, such as v1 where new n3on and place came from, produced directly after his 2018 album die lit, hence the strong pierre bourne sound in these pieces. The new and final tracks were produced by f1lthy, known by the agressive beats and edm-ish production, although a lot of others got involved in the new sound such as starboy, art dealer and maaly raw. Still my favorite trap album to date

The “video game trap” style beats on this album have become its own subgenre of trap called rage which dominates alot of the underground hip hop scene. Carti wasnt really the first to do it as people like Uzi and Trippie Redd did similar stuff with a edm/trap/rock fusion before the release of wlr, but the impact that this album has is enormous to this day.

Carti’s controversial career is something that cannot be explained in vapid think-piece posts on social media, this is an rapper turned rockstar imperfectly selling his mental & emotional pain to the world. Whole Lotta Red is still polarizing today some think it’s the worst thing ever to happen to Rap/Hip Hop being annoying and clunky. And others like myself feel it’s The Greatest Album Of The 2020’s Decade By The Greatest Artist Of This Generation! You can’t deny this album’s influence on the current & future landscape of music. Safe to say that without Whole Lotta Red we may never have got the offspring he has signed since Whole Lotta Red which are Homixide Gang,Ken Carson, and Destroy Lonely who are apart of Carti’s OPIUM label. Also the production for Whole Lotta Red in hindsight was a surprise, primarily because of the lack of Pi’erre Bourne beats. The producer who helped hone in Carti’s sound on breakout tracks like “Magnolia”, “Wokeuplikethis” and “R.I.P.” Is almost nowhere to be found, save for only two songs “Place” and “ILoveUIHateU”. The majority of WLR’s production is handled by F1lthy, Art Dealer, Star Boy, and Maaly Raw among others. They provide Carti with some of the glitchiest, frenetic beats he’s ever rapped on. Songs like the intro/opener “Rockstar Made”, the chaotic bass of “Stop Breathing”, “Die4Guy” and “New Tank” or the ear-splitting “OnThatTime” all fit into the new punk trap/rage aesthetic Carti’s going for on Whole Lotta Red.🧛🏽‍♂️𐕣⛧🔥(My Top 5 songs on this masterful album: 1) Over 2) Place 3) Stop Breathing 4) Slay3r 5) On That Time)
