My wife racing the Escalade at the track video! - • My Wife Raced Her Supe...
Unfortunately, my wife's 2015 Cadillac Escalade was destroyed in a bad accident. In this video, I go over what happened, we buy her a new one, I immediately get to work on it and I show you the pictures of the Escalade 5 years ago when it was in a horrible wreck with the original owner. This truck truly saved 2 families and that's why we keep buying them. These are some of the safest vehicles on the road.

Engine hour to miles formula. Multiply your engine hours by 30 and that should give you an approximate mileage of your car. If it's about the same as your actual mileage your car hasn't idled more than normal. If it's much higher just know the previous owner's idled the engine a lot and it has a little more wear.

Years ago a Carfax report saved me $7-10k on a used Yukon Denali w low mileage because an accident mileage was misreported by about 40,000 kilometres, compared to the vehicles digital odometer. The accident had been an insurance write off and the guy who bought it made two mistakes, one of which was not putting a minimum bid. The odometer issue put people off of bidding and I got it for well under $10k. Some knowledgeable people estimated the value at between $12-15k. Never underestimate the value of any report that gets you information when most people can’t be bothered. 3 years later and I could still pull $10k from my Denali but it’s not for sale ;) Cheers 🍻

My Dad was the boss of a bodyshop in a big GM dealership. We in Switzerland have exactly the same problem with tons of salt on the road. It is taking a terrible toll on cars. Specially in the old days when rust protection was hardly existing. Every new or nearly new car we owned was thoroughly treated like that. We also treated the inside of every door that way. I remember our 63 Belair. We bought it 2 years old and we had to replace the lower half of the doorskins when the car was less than 6 years old. The car did not get this kind of treatment when it was new. I still own this car to this day! I did not have to fix a lot of rust in over 40 years. It shows that the process of protecting the vehicle can do miracles. You did a great job here and it will pay off. We used to spray huge amounts of a similar material out of special sprayguns. The car would smell a bit for a few days.

Where I live we'd definitely call this a SUV (and a very very large one) - but in 'merica I'd have thought truck for this... what American's call a "Truck" with a bed, we call a Ute here (short for Utility) - but it's pretty unusual to see any passenger vehicle this big on the road here. Trucks here are commercial vehicles with a proper separate cab and some kind of specific rear coach - e.g. a towing rig, furniture mover, or flat-bed.

Goes to show that even though you made repairs to this before, when done correctly, a previously damaged vehicle is still capable of holding up on an accident. I’ve seen so many bodged repair jobs that unfortunately haven’t held up the second time due to poor workmanship, inferior parts or just plain backyard mechanic, that’ll do attitude. Anyways, glad you and troops are doing well. Good job 👍🏾

Alex. Just a quick note to say that I'm definitely subscribed, and thoroughly enjoy your videos and work. You're an inspiration to me as a 57 year old lifetime veteran car hobbyist. I'm not a mechanic by any means but I'm an engineer and have forever been a weekend warrior car dude. I fix as much as I feel comfortable and your videos are extremely helpful and inspirational to do more. If we lived in the same City I would probably want to hang out in your shop and be free labor just to enjoy and learn even more. Your charitable work is simply the icing on the cake. Keep up the great work and absolutely love your videos. In fact I just finished spending a ton of hours fixing a rough idle issue on my mom's Chevy Venture. She absolutely loves her van and won't let me buy her a new one. After a ton of hours and parts, I finally found the problem causing the dreaded P0300 code. How satisfying it was to finally find the problem. Sadly I probably replaced a bunch of parts that didn't need to be replaced but I can live with that. Thanks again for all of the inspiration. One day we need to meet and share a beer

Fluid film is another very good option for rust prevention! I've been using them on my 3 of my cars for multiple NY salty winters and it really works! I spray it on once before they start salting and lasts the whole winter. Prevents rust and stops current rust. Love it.

Alex, I'm a retired pro photographer and wanted to give a little info that will help you when filming very light or very dark subjects. You'll notice in this video that when you're standing next to your new SUV with the door open that the interior looks black, but once you're inside it looks grey. That's because light meters see everything as approximately 18% grey* so a overall white (highkey) subject will be underexposed and look 18% grey, your black interior will be overexposed and look 18% grey. In those situations you'll need to override the camera's exposure and adjust 1 /12 stops to 2 stops up or down considering the subject. Remember - underexpose dark scenes and overexpose light scenes. Back when we shot everything on film you didn't know if you'd gotten everything right until you got the film back from the lab, or you took a Polaroid using the same settings. (loved my Mamiya made Polaroid 600) and Polaroid back for my 4x5 Cambo.) * to be more accurate that 18% grey number is what I was told by my Photo instructors and read in photo magazines and books on photography, but I found out years later that, nope, it's more like a 12% grey that most Japanese camera meters are set to, or at least that was the case 20+ years ago.

So glad your family and the other driver were safe from that deadly collision, a true testiment to added safety features. Lifelong suburban owner here. My rust free trucks come from middle to upper Texas... Even Florida can have salt corrosion issues from ocean salt/mist. (I'd never buy a Florida boat even) I'm in Oklahoma, never owned a rusted vehicle... but why wouldn't the states that salt their roads have separate dedicated underbody pressure systems you drive over? preventive maintenance! I mean, spend $2 to $5 to drive over upward facing high pressure nozzles with a salt neutralizing solution. 1/2 the profit could go back to the state even.

GM Mechanic here. The Escalade is often (not always) considered a truck by technicians. It uses truck wheels, has a truck frame, truck suspension, etc. We call the long wheelbase SUV's like the Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, and Escalade 'trucks' since when it comes to frame style, wheel type and suspension specs, it's practically the same exact parts as the Sierra and Silverado. Side note: Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade and Suburban are pretty much the same exact vehicle, just with different little doodads.

Glad to hear everyone was ok after the accident. Being in that monster of a SUV helped you all survive. Both my nephew and best friend were in accidents so bad that the first responder was surprised they were still alive and even more so that they only had minor scratches or bumps. What were they driving? Both owned first gen Ford Explorer Sports (the 2 door Explorer). One was hit head on at over 70 mph by a driver that had fallen asleep at the wheel and the other lost control in extreme weather while on the freeway, spun and flipped the car and ended up in a ditch. My friend was shaken but just a few minor scratches. Even though you were all fine problems can creep up on you in a few hours. I was driving home from work in stop and go street traffic when the car in front of me suddenly stopped short. I reacted quick enough to avoid hitting them, the gal behind me also stopped in time, but the big camper truck behind her did not. He plowed into her, she plowed into me. I thought I was fine but as the minutes passed my neck started to hurt and by the time I got home I thought it best if I get things checked out. The ER ordered x-rays and while on the table the x-ray tech asks me to open my mouth wider, and I couldn't. I ended up with lockjaw for a fews days and had to eat through a stray. Afterwards I had 4 years of pretty bad pain in my neck and back. It wasn't even that big an accident. I think they just put a new bumper on the Acura Integra and the bill was something like $1,500. (1993 dollars). I had a scrape on top of my head where it hit the roof was the only exterior sign after the accident'

Tip for later. You could do the same thing buying a polish pad to soak in that (paint thinner I think) and buff off the strips with a soaked pad. Do that in 20 minutes max. Friend of mine did by hand like you did and took him something like 6 hours. Yuck. Hope you didn’t spend that much time. Great channel man 👍

You definitely can call it a truck. When you’re selecting make and model in a parts store or on the diagnostic computer it says Cadillac truck. Now I have to say that I’ve gotten in the habit of calling my Escalade a car because I had to distinguish it from the truck that I had. It’s a truck

Changing just the diff fluid seems like a waste because you're not cleaning off the magnet or doing a general inspection of the chunk. A little brake clean and RTV you get that real fresh oil. That being said, I'm glad everyone was okay from the crash and I appreciate the effort you put in to preserving these vehicles after getting shipped up north to die lol

Here's a good tip for you, Because of where the oil filter is-and how it's mounted upside down / When doing a oil change prefill the filter always as this will prevent dry start up and damage your engine - you'll be glad you did in the long run...

Loving this series, I call my Land Cruiser a truck but on other days an suv. I think the most literal truck there is, are those mining carts they used to truck material down rails. I think we’ve all seen it, and I think SUV’s still fit in with that with the large open space in the back.

When it comes to accidents it's a pound for pound scenario. Your description is right in my book till the insurance company looks at it that's when they say it's a large SUV and charge you accordingly. These days protecting your family is a priority. Good luck on this one my friend and God be with you.

Glad you weren't hurt , you made a good job of under sealing so I hope it doesn't get rusty as for the car my father had when I was growing up in the 1940s was a ford Model A with a soft top which I never ever saw off. I am here in New Zealand where it never snows but cars do go rusty underneath if you don't under seal them.

In 2021 I lost my 2015 escalade to an idiot. On a 45 MPH road, I was doing 40 the other guy was doing 75. He came into my lane and we hit driver to driver. I had 3 passengers in our escalade heading to a funeral....we never made it. No one died but my wife and I did get severely injured. My pelvis broke in half and my left hip was blown out. My femur tore through the ball joint when the firewall came in 12". Our Escalade saved our lives. We finally found another one...2019 Platinum White with Raven Black interior! Super hard to find but when we did we bought it. We love the new addition. Ours looks just like yours with all the bells and whistles!

Alex, its a "fruck" a fancy truck! that was basically ideal, the front of the vehicle is a very easily designed buffer zone. also every vehicle that size has LOTS of space to crumple, so no way id expect anyone to get serious damage from that

Oh man that really sucks. I just watched your other video when you took the Escalade in the shop for repairs and after all the full restoration work done to this vehicle only takes only one bad crash to ruin it. The good thing nobody was hurt in the crash or seriously hurt. I'm glad you and your family are safe the most important thing. You can replace the vehicle but you cannot replace a life but its just upsetting what you had gone thru in getting the vehicle you want and getting it to its full restoration status.

That undercoating looks like a good deal. I've been using fluid film, but it's so greasy it attracts an insane amount of dirt and grime, it's awful. Then having reapply every year, without a lift is not a fun ordeal. Definitely going to give this a try.
@DeGlennen

At my workplace we also use fluidfilm to prevent rust on combine harvesters and tractors in storage, but next to standard dirt it also attracts a massive amount of bugs. Which then get stuck in the film.
