I recently purchased this product, but unfortunately, it only works with routers that use the 2.4GHz band exclusively. It does not support dual-band or tri-band routers. I have a Linksys MX4200, a HomeKit-enabled security router, which combines the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands into a single SSID. Despite weeks of communication with their support team, no solution was found. They mentioned that the issue might be addressed in a future firmware update. So, unless your router separates the 2.4GHz network from the 5GHz one, this product won’t connect via Matter.

I am using a combined 2.4/5GHz network and the rope light is working fine for me via Matter. Do you have iPv6 enabled on your router? That is required. Also, have you enabled any of the HomeKit security settings on your router? Sometimes those settings can be the issue.

Have you tried separating your 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz networks then? If you do then make sure to join the 2.4Ghz network when you add the device so that it joins that network.

I don't have the white version, so I can't say for sure. But I assume it will match. That is the case for other Govee products I've used that come in white or black versions.

Hi! Great video. Does it come with the gradient light option and just having the light static like the Philips hue? Cheers

Yes you can do gradient effects or keep it a static color.

Great video! What are those octagon wood things on your wall? Love those! (purchased some neon rope, or about to since it is on BF sale!)

Which ones? The Hexagons behind me in my studio are Nanoleaf Lines (but they are not wood). I also have some Nanoleaf Elements (look like wood hexagons) but I don't think they are seen in this video.
@NewYears1978Ай бұрын
@@ShaneCreates The ones literally behind you the entire time you are talking...maybe they are not wood but they look like wood? I think it is the lines, I guess because of the depth of field and you color scheme it just made them look wood lol.

Haha yep those are the Nanoleaf Lines with black skins on them.

Just a question : why these new « matter » compatible products are using « matter over WiFi » and not « matter over thread » ? Cheaper more more simple for the producer ? If you WiFi router is shutdown for any reason, nothing will work. At home, I’m trying to use « matter over thread » is time a such product is available (electric connected socket, light strip etc…)
@ru22256 ай бұрын
Easier to implement code wise too, unfortunately. It's just manufacturers being lazy. We need someone like Apple to push it more, or they won't ever care. (Apple supports it, but it's always never at the fore front)
@ShaneCreates6 ай бұрын
I think it's easier to produce and probably cheaper. And you have companies like Govee that have always used wifi for all of their products, so it probably makes a lot more sense for them to implement Matter over wifi than completely pivot to a whole new protocol. Unfortunately there are still VERY few brands making lighting products that utilize Thread. Even Nanoleaf's most recent Matter lighting products have been Matter over Wifi, and they were one of the first and few brands to make Matter over Thread lighting products.
@kevinverbeek84066 ай бұрын
@@ShaneCreatesthey probably stopped making matter over thread products since their matter over thread products have been really unstable with still no proper fix in sight
@Thierry.g386 ай бұрын
@@ShaneCreates , you’re right and I made a mistake. I’m currently not using « matter over thread » but only product using thread directly (like nanoleaf products). As there are some problems with matter over thread », I never update my product firmware
@jdroberts98256 ай бұрын
Pretty sure 90% of the time it’s a straight engineering decision. If a device uses mains power (plugs in or is wired directly), most of the time Matter over Wi-Fi will be the right design choice. You’ll get longer range, don’t need an additional device, and you’ll probably get higher consumer acceptance right now since Wi-Fi feels familiar. (The other 10% is for the devices that you need as Thread repeaters.) If a device uses battery power, most of the time Matter over Thread or Matter over Bridge will make more sense because you’ll get much longer battery life. But the range will be shorter so you’ll need to set up a strong mesh with some additional wired devices and you’ll need a thread border router. All of that creates some additional technical complexity, which can be perceived as a negative by many mainstream consumers. Both protocols are good, it just depends on the specific device you’re working with.
