Let me start off by saying...I'm an older guy, single, loves life to the MAX, and am extremely happy. I don't "date" and have many lovely female friends. I do have a "special" night once a week with a lovely and beautiful woman and her precious dog. Sincerely, I learn so much from her, laugh so hard, amazed at her sincerity and honesty about love and life. Susan...of course ..it's YOU and Desi! I thank you sooooo much for sharing your love, ideas and fun experiences with your audience. Your channel is the BEST of any YT channel that I watch....primarily because you are SO REAL!!! So I simply say "Thank you Susan and Desi for all the joy you bring into my life"! You Both are the BEST DATE ever!!!! 😍

I stopped dating many, many, many years ago, and I don't miss it. I am very content living out the rest of my days solo. The stereotypical old woman with her cats....and her one lone chicken. But, your story about your best first date had me smiling, and for just a moment, missing those days of first dates. The anticipation, the excitement of meeting someone new...the promise of what might be. You are a wonderful story teller, Susan. I'm glad I found you. Have a happy Valentine's day.

@@willowfollows822 A man in our town is a retired minister. His wife died. He openly and honestly spoke of wanting a replacement wife.Well, he didn’t say ‘ replacement’, I am saying that. If you asked how he was doing in the weeks after his wife died he would respond with things like having trouble getting his laundry done, or the difficulty of having tv dinners instead of home cooked meals. He never did mention the sadness of loosing his wife. Within 5 months he remarried. He found himself a woman who would provide those services. The couple seems very happy three years into their marriage. All’s well that ends well. I guess.

I could not possibly imagine dating today at the age of 70. I dated a lot in my younger days and I didn’t get married till I was 35. My husband and I dated on and off for six years till we finally got married and we were together really 40 years and I just still feel married to him. So I’m just waiting till I join him in heaven. When you had a really good husband, who was always there for you and took care of you when you were sick got along with your family got along with your friends. You just had the best. I can’t imagine any other man taking his place I adore Desi. He’s a little sweetheart. valentine’s Day would’ve been our 35th anniversary. I had almost canceled our first date because I was coming down with a cold and when I called and told him that I kind of got the feeling he thought I was giving him the brush off and I said if you don’t mind being around me with a cold and he said I absolutely do not mind so I was on cold medicine and he took me out for a romantic dinner and drinks and then we went dancing afterwards and then in the car ride home I think I passed out with my head in his lap from having drinks with my cold medicine😊

The worst situation is when the man is lovely and caring, treating you like a queen while dating, but shows his true face afterwards in a relationship. Some men out there are very manipulative and sometimes it's hard to realize for a long time because they are very good actors. I am in my 60s now and at a point in my life where I don't want a romantic relationship anymore. Too much drama!

This is such a TRUE statement! Married 30 years to a man who was a fantastic actor before marriage!!! When we met and were dating he treated me SO well. He was punctual, put me first , he “ appeared “ to be very social and had a lot of friends. He drank but appeared and said only on the weekends when we went out with friends. We never lived together before marriage. We dated a lot for over 2 years before marriage. After marriage I noticed he drank daily not , “just on the weekends “ like he had said and I had observed..Once we married we moved. This once social person no longer had any desire to make and have friends. This once positive up beat person was now constantly negative, spoke negatively all the time and ALWAYS seems to have some sort of drama and issue with someone over SOMETHING. People can be good actors to get what they want . We have remained married for a long time but it’s not been easy. I always thought my radar and intuition was good but I was deceived.

@@tamb7587 sorry to hear that. I dated a man for a year and a half like that. So disappointed. I finally had to realize this was who he was and I moved on. It's hard for us women. This was a fun one. Worst first date. I was asked out by a new instructor from the local college. I was maybe 19 and he was maybe mid 20s. Anyway, we got all dressed up and had dinner at the local French restaurant. I thought I was smart driving myself, which of course, I was. He did invite me back to his apartment for tea. I agreed. He was a nice guy and very well mannered. When we got back to his place and were enjoying our tea, he asked if he could hold my shoe, it was a leather pump. He started stroking my shoe and smelling it. He eventually told me he was really into shoes and had a huge shoe fetish. I politely excused myself saying I was really tired and had to head home. All in all it wasn't a terrible date, but he dumped me for my shoes. The intensity he had regarding it was just too over the top for me. lol

My worst ever first date was with an actor on a tv show. He wanted to take me out to breakfast. He took me to a little diner in nyc. He said he would order for us both. The waitress came over, and he ordered ONE meal of scrambled eggs, home fries, toast, and an extra plate! Then when the food came he proceeded to divide the eggs and toast, put my share on the extra plate, and kept all of the home fries for himself. Then he invited me to go to his apartment after the meal. Needless to say, as soon as he went to the bathroom I ran out. He actually wanted me to pay half! Later that day he sent me an email with all kinds of vulgar, disgusting insults and profanity. I dodged a bullet for sure!

That little dog is so cute. My worst first date was with a fellow who was actually rather good looking. He was successful and owned a nice house and had a good job. But he was divorced, and he went on and on and on about how it was all his wife's fault they split up. Then he talked about his mother and his dad. His Dad was a perfect man. He had so many outstanding accomplishments. Then he said his mother's greatest accomplishment was that she married his dad. She was 18 when they married, and his father was many years older. He was also rude to the waitress who waited on us. I politely excused myself and said I had to be at work early the next day, and left. I just had a bad feeling about him, and his opinion of women. Many Many years later I met him again, and he was not nearly as handsome. He had a lovely lady with him, and he was bossy as possible toward her. It was hard to see him treat this woman like she was supposed to take orders from him. She deserved better. And I was so grateful I didn't go out with him again. I'm glad I listened to my instincts.

Susan, I just loved this video !!! One of my worst first dates was with a Navy officer. I can't remember where we met but I didn't enjoy his company as we went dancing at the officer's club. We just didn't connect and I counted the minutes till he took me home, and I could barely wait to rush in my door. My BEST date was with an extremely handsome young 24 yr old Navy man who just got out of the service. We went dancing and had dinner and I'll never forget the moment after he drove me home. We had just pulled up to the curb of my home, he turned off the car engine and before I could even take a breath, he kissed me. I was so AMAZED that this handsome man was dating me. I was only 18 !!! We dated for just 2 weeks and he asked me to marry him. I said yes and we married 2 mths later !!! We were married 41 & 1/2 years and he was the love of my life. One of the sweetest persons you could ever meet. He passed 9 years ago and I miss him every single day. Because of our faith in Jesus, I so look forward to seeing my sweetheart one day in heaven. We kissed on our first date and I knew he might be the one even though he was very different from the more reserved men I was typically drawn to. He was fiery and direct, confident and outspoken, and so sweet and passionate. He was fun and adventurous and was never boring. We’ve been married almost 50 years and time has weakened his health. I found the love of my life, during the worst part of his, as he was goingthrough separation and a very rough divorce. Our first date I don't even remember the details. Our start was definitely not the fairytale beginning and one could say there were definitely a lot of red flags telling me to run.. But something about him, about me, just didn't let us quit. I saw past all the messiness and knew his heart. We've been together going on 25 years, married for 20 of those, and this man has lived every day just trying to make my life easier. He loves me dearly, completely and a more devoted and protective partner You will not find. He never stops telling me how beautiful I am or how much he loves me. And honestly speaking, I feel the same about him. He's been and continues to be my best friend and for that I am grateful that I didn't run. Happy Valentines Day 💝

Many widowed men jump right back into the dating scene before they have fully grieved their spouse. You must do this first or you are not a good partner to the next person you meet in your life. Being compassionate and understanding is important initially but not knowing if that is all they talk about. I have a few friends who married widowers too soon after their loss and it did not work out. Trying to replace someone does not work. You need to do he work of being alone, taking your journey through loss and come out the the other side. I did this after being widowed at 35 and years later met my high school sweetheart and here we are 39 years later. Take your time be open to new beginnings when your heart is healed and open to love again.

Great video. That sex addiction story is hilarious. I was on a first date years ago with a guy who told me everything about himself, his job, his apartment, and never asked me anything about me. When our server brought our food, I wanted to hug her because this dude actually stopped talking for 30 seconds while she placed our dinner in front of us.

I'm 64 and I am very happy, and not lonely at all. The thought of navigating another relationship at this time in my life exhausts me. I have no desire to add another human being into my life. Relationships are so complicated......I don't care what you say........they are complicated no matter what your ages. I love when people meet and find love!! But not all of us need that. What I miss is that people used to be friends..... I think we need friends.....companions.... People to talk to. Do we all need to live with other people to be happy and content?

My best first date was with my husband too. He was a hockey player and a great skater and I was from the west coast where there's very seldom ice. NOT a skater. He took me to an outdoor rink in the midwest of Canada where we were both in university. It was beautifully lit for night skating with a lovely bonfire and twinkle lights in the trees. I was nervous because I'm NOT a skater. He helped me lace my rental skates and as we headed out of the warming shed he said, "hang on to me, it's going to be slippery". And then he fell. 😆 He hurt his knee and didn't feel much like skating so I wobbled around on the ice alone while he drank hot chocolate beside the pond, intermittently calling out to me to ask if I was having fun. We've laughed about that date for many years now. Thank you for sharing your dating stories, I hope you soon meet the man of your dreams, or maybe just enjoy a lot of wonderful dates this year. For myself, I'm happy not to be dating any more. xo karen

The best and safest way to meet people is to literally PRAY that God lead them into your life or leads you into their lives. hands down. This works. It may be only for friendship, but that's the best place to start any relationship. If you love books, go to the library and book stores. Stay out of clubs and bars. Nothing but trouble. I can't imagine being on a date like the one you described. That's awful. Sorry you went through that. Men are usually resistant to therapy, and most need it. At least, that's been my experience. Any great loss takes time to heal, and sometimes professional help to navigate those troubled thoughts and feelings.

I'll share my sister's worst first date, and this was well over 30 years ago, when she was in her early 20s. Het date picked her up and he didn't seem interested in doing any other than just driving aimlessly around. Finally after a long while my sister mentioned perhaps catching a bite to eat somewhere. "Oh you want to eat?" he asked and he reached into the back seat and brought forth something wrapped in aluminum foil. "Just in case you got hungry my mom packed us up some pizza slices". He unwrapped the pizza slices and gave her one. My sister was in shock. To this day, more than 3 decades later, we still have a name for him: Mr Pizza in the Back Seat. Now Susan, you have the BEST valentine ever in Desi, you won't be wanting or needing anyone else. Desi is the man of the hour and he looks so glam in his green bow tie. That was a great subject. I can't even remember what my best first date was. I had many of them. But I'm sitting here thinking "Wow", I can't remember anything important or very special about a first date. Maybe it usually was the same ritual. Movie, talk and then take me home. It was later the special things happened for me. I had a boyfriend early on (I could have married) who was such a gentleman always. Handsome, and fun. One night he came over my house , I was living at home and was 20. He came to the door and asked if I would come outside. So out I went with him. There was his white Mach 1 car. He pointed to my side of the cars door. There was a name painted at the top that said "Jellybean" in black script! That's what he called me. I was very surprised. I have never had anything done for me as great as that. Being young and not in love with him, I didn't see how special it was at the time. But now, I do. I love what he did so much, Now! I didn't appreciate it like I do now. It makes me feel terrible that I didn't jump up and hug him. But I guess things just go over our head sometimes. He loved me, but I just wasn't there. Now I look back at how special he was and how he got away. I'm almost 68, and until the day I'm gone, that moment will never be forgotten.

I went on this first date, our meal just arrived and he asked, you seem uptight, so no sex on the first date? I called the waitress over, got my food to go, he immediately started insulting me, yeah too uptight for me can’t take a joke, probably are bad in bed too. I stood up, grabbed my food and said, I am the BEST you have never had and will never have, you are too stupid to even know that uptight women are the BEST in bed, they gotta let go some time. IDIOT! I turned to the waitress who had sensed trouble and said, This is our first date, he called me uptight and referenced that he wasn’t getting sex tonight. (I was talking LOUD.) He invited me on this date, I am leaving with my food, he invited me, he pays for it 100%. In the middle of all of this 2 big and burly dudes from the bar came over and said, ma’am, we will escort you to your car and when we come back (turning to the waitress) we will make sure this total and complete fool pays his check. My former date started mouthing off to them, one of them said, listen you idiot, stand down for the good of all mankind, you will pay that check, in fact I suggest you start now before we get back, oh and forget you have her number. Then to me, let’s go. When we made it through the door the tears started rolling down my face and these 2 big and burly men started apologizing to me and told me, this isn’t on you this is on HIM, this is his problem and his fault. You did good standing up for yourself, be so proud of that and forget him. I said, if my older brothers knew I cried I would be in big trouble. They said, it is our secret forever, we won’t tell a soul. We got to my car, one opened the door, the other took my food and put it on the floor of the back seat so it wouldn’t spill he said. They asked for my phone number “to check on me”, they would text, we exchanged numbers, and we are friends to this DAY. There are good ones out there. Finding them seems to be the problem. 😂 Thanks Susan! 💕

I met the guy who seemed to not have that much time to date but I met him at a restaurant and I got there first and he was like 4’ 11 and ended up sitting down and right off the bat telling me he only had 30 minutes because he had an ankle monitor on, which meant he had been in some kind of trouble. Nope-had I known this before I drove to see him there is no way I would’ve wasted my time. That was a huge dealbreaker. I am currently married to a gentleman who is a lot younger than me but it’s been working for 10 years now-don’t know what the future holds, but if something happens to this relationship down the road-I will be just as happy and content as I am right now. ❤ This was one of my favorite videos-thank you for doing them! Well Hello From Ontario Canada Susan and Desi, now Susan that was a video tonight, you made me laugh, cry, and well even remember my first date. I never dared much in high school, but my mother had a friend and her son was older and wanted me to double date and go out with his friend who just came from England, I was thrilled it was the first New Years Eve I’m 17 and I was nervous but thrilled, I am tall 5’9” so dressed nice and the three came to my door, and this gorgeous British Dark Hair blue eyed man stood maybe 5’7” but his personality and face I’ll never forget. We all four of us went to dinner and a dance he was 25 years old and I was over the moon, his accent his manners were perfect. He walked me to the door and kissed my cheek. We dated for a few months as he was moving her to live with his mother who had remarried. I’m still in school he’s working , well we were in love, he was my first love and then he was gone, back to England and I never saw him again. We had not been intimate just kiss and cuddle he was always a gentleman, I thought because I was so young, but his mother did call me to explain, her son went back to a England to someone he was trying to forget now remember Susan I am 69 now so back then I wasn’t very worldly but he was running away from a life and ran back to be with a man. So tonight that was the memory I hadn’t thought of in many years. I never married until I was 28 and had my beautiful son 10 years later. I’m alone now but I wanted to share this I hope you done mind, each week you give me so much joy and I love reading all the other comments and other experiences, I had to tell mine. God bless , have a beautiful week ahead, I remain your fan and friend until next Saturday evening ❤️🇨🇦🇺🇸🐾🐾🙏❤️

I LOVED every minute of this video. I so enjoyed listening to your best date. I am recently widowed and I have watched some senior dating videos. Oh boy, what a nightmare. What is wrong with dating sites, I believe, is the lack of true gentlemen on them. There are reasons why some people are not successful in marriage or in relationships. Many are looking to hook up only or they spend too much time swiping on those sites. As a result, their brains are altered. The lack of emotional intelligence and not being interesting would kill it for me. Your stories are funny and sweet and thoughtful. You reminded me of my best first date with my husband. We lived 6 hours apart so on my first trip to Galveston where he lived, we walked on the Strand, ate in a wonderful Italian restaurant and had Irish coffees at a 4th generation Irish bar. In the middle of walking, he grabbed my hand, looked at me surprised and said "This is great! You're not like holding hands with my brother!". It turned out that his last girlfriend had been very tall and very big boned. But when he said that, it hit me so funny. I laughed and laughed. I had no idea why he would say that! He finally figured out why I looked so confused. I fell in love right there.

I have to say it, you make the most wonderful videos on KZbin! I just love seeing you and Desi each week❤. You just give so much of yourself to us viewers and I really am touched by that. This was a really uplifting video and it had a little bit of everything a little bit of crazy a little bit of surprise and a little bit of love. Thank you so much for sharing. I feel like I know you personally even though I really don’t. You are some one very special and so is Desi and he’s lucky to have you and you’re lucky to have him. Keep it up and I’ll keep watching and smiling and laughing and even shedding a couple of tears on certain topics. May God bless.🙏❤️🥰💝

After reading many of the comments, I am hearing a sense of "fear" from women in the "dating process". Forget dating!!! Friendships will develop naturally when we are kind and caring for others. in our daily lives!...there are soooo many expectations and stressful situations in dating. I've been blessed to have many women friends and I can be myself and so can they. Isn't that what life is all about? We have fun and are there for each other. My home is called "The Bear Den" and it's always open for my friends to stop in and share and just relax and be themselves. Just some honest advice from "The Bear"! 💓🐻 P.S.....this is what Susan does each week. Her sincerity and love come right into our homes through her videos...and it's like a "warm fuzzy" and Oh my...Desi sings the finale!!!♥

After my husband died, I didn’t date. I had children to protect. After my children were adults, I tried on line dating I got creepy vibes so I quit. Now I’m old, I don’t want to be a nurse or a purse to some man.

I’ve enjoyed your podcasts for a couple-3 yrs now. I must say that my favorite part is the ending song with Desi! Maybe because my cherished Shite Shu is on my lap watching with me. Happy Valentine’s Day Susan & Desi. My 1st date with my late husband was Valentine’s Day 1992. We eloped to Vegas June 5. We were married 19 yrs & had a daughter 3 days after I turned 40. I’m now 70, she is 30. She, her husband & 3 children live with me. I’m so grateful to have been Loved ❤️❤️❤️ & know what love feels like.

I find that seeing how a man treats the waitstaff is very telling. I as a divorced Mom for 30 years all my younger girlfriends talked me into an on line dating service. I decided to treat dating like a job interview. I would only spend a couple hours with each man, either meet for coffee or a couple drinks. I found that at 55 there were TONS of young men chasing after me, most wanted a mother, no commitment or a romp in the hay. I’m now 65 & will have been married for almost 8 years. I never could have imagined meeting someone, getting married & now having a partner for the last half of my life…….its never too late even if I didn’t know I wanted one.

Ohhh Susan, it's been a crazy year for me. I reconnected with someone I had not seen or heard from in over 20 years. I've been single and unemcumbered for so long, and he came back so unexpectedly. At 68 years old, I feel too old to be going through this emotional roller coaster ride! 🌻💝 ❤Happy Valentines Day!❤

I loved this weeks video! What a great story teller you are! You had me rolling girl! I think we can all relate with you on some of those “too much information” dates! Ugh! I haven’t dated in a year and frankly, I am okay with it! I did love being married and that lifestyle, but I feel so free now! I’ll be 66 in 12 days and I’m loving my life with me, myself and I! Lol! You have a blessed week! ❤

You should be a romance writer! I don't mean all mushy and too sexual, just a good old romance! I love how you examine and have the best opinions and get to the point. I'm 58, been single for 13 years and have a 22 and 25 yr old and a doggie named Sammie. Sometimes I think I would love to have someone, that comfort and non-conditional ease and love, but sometimes I love just being alone. I have no idea where to meet someone and have also very much so noticed how visual men continue to be... even at this age. So.... here I am! Anyway, love your videos!!!

@@karenbly3829 You are still young. Maybe you don’t realize that. The thing of it is being willing to take on not just a husband ,who will have likes, dislikes, expectations, habits, preferences, prior commitments and responsibilities , but you will also be getting their family and old friends. No, thank you, I’m sure they’re charming people , but it’s too much. And really, I also have those elements to bring into the relationship. How’s that all going to work? I think being a friend/ companion may work better. No imposed expectations.

I love to hear others dating experiences. I have had very few dates in my life, and it has been several years since one. It would just be awkward. A fortune teller asked me who the dark-haired man was, and I said there is no man, and she said, well, he is interested in you. I think he may be someone in a parallel universe, because he sure is not in this one!
