The downside of buying these at Ross/TJ Maxx/Marshall’s is that they’re almost always “irregular” and therefore don’t get the lifetime warranty. That said, I haven’t had any issue yet so still a solid deal.

Thermohair (70% kid mohair/30% Nylon) are hands down the best socks I have ever had. I was a die hard Darn Tough and smart wool fan before finding the Thermohair socks. They have been tested in the Arctic and the best socks for maintaining warmth and dryness. No sweating/damp feet which eventually turn cold and make you have that cold wet sock feeling. These socks stay warm and dry all the time. They are a bit spendy at $35 Canadian dollars per pair, but they will last years and years of cared for correctly. Best of all they are machine washable.

I've been in the rabbit hole of wool socks and I can recommend lichen goods and hirsch nature and jacob wool socks. They are thick so no worries for durability issue since wool of all of Natural fabric have the lowest tensile strength Just make sure to not buy superwash wool since it defeat the purpose of wool benefits

Bought 100% irish wool socks worsted knit problem is I'm size 11.5 but the sock is like 8-12 all size and it's a little bit large that's why sometimes it doesn't effectively contact with my skin to fully benefit from the moisture wicking of the socks. Also the fiber doesn't come contact to the in between skin of your toes so expect to sweat even though it's wool. But if you buy 100% wool toe socks I guarantee you get the full benefits of wool😊 For people who want to try wool never go for light weight since wool will always have lower tensile strength. Try finding worsted or chunky wool knit socks

Actually good Cashmere socks come from Mongolia and they are the warmest ever but fragile so going hiking would not be a good choice. Possum sock from Australia are fantastic and bloody warm, Smartwool are also one of my favourite socks, Lorpen and Icebreaker are good if you buy 70% wool plus you need to wash them in cold water and let them dry out on a towel same with the cashmere. Don't wash wool sock of high % too often wear them a few days but not consecutively (NEVER) and mostly if you sweat a lot. You just lost me when you said Darn Tough, they are too expensive and they are not good quality socks they wear and tear very fast so that is why they have a life warranty and they are the only one to do this...do you wonder why? I have bought six pairs of Darn Tough they are the only one after three months to have holes in them, I sent them back to the company and never heard of them again and lost three pairs of socks in the deal. Never buy Darn Tough socks, and go see other videos about them, the reviews are not too good!

My Pendleton brand compression hiking socks are 42% nylon/30% merino wool/20% acrylic/8% spandex and they’ve gotten a few fuzz balls on the cushion bottom sole after several wears and only one hand wash. Is that normal with some Merino wool socks or is it a reflection on poor quality . I paid $15 with the 20% discount so they’re not cheap.🧦
@TheMensch
@TheMensch 4 жыл бұрын
Pendleton makes some great stuff! It’s def normal to have some fuzz balls after a couple wears and a wash - I don’t think that reflects on the quality at all. I still recommend trying out diff companies - darn tough for me reigns king and has closer to a 70% wool content so it maybe worth it for you - since they have a lifetime warranty if you’re not happy with them, they’ll replace them for you. I think it’s worth it and you could try to find them on sale every so often for under $20
@Orlanzepol123
@Orlanzepol123 4 жыл бұрын
The Mensch on Menswear glad you suggested Darn Tough. They’ve been always on my radar so I did buy them with a few other brands like Lorpan. I bough the Spur Light Cushioned Hiking Socks by DT and also hand washed them once after several uses and I think they have less fuzz balls to none . They have 50% nylon/45% merino wool/5% Lycra spandex so they’re similar to my Pendleton. I do enjoy trying socks from different companies however when it comes to shoes I stick to one brand. Red Wings. But that’s a different subject.Thanks

Is there such a thing as 100% wool socks? All of the "wool" socks I see on the market are all wool-blends with polyester or nylon
@TheMensch
@TheMensch 4 жыл бұрын
Good question! There isn’t because they need nylon to help retain the shape of the sock especially after washing. Wool sweaters often looks their shape if you pull the sleeves up because your stretching the fabric out and without the nylon it doesn’t recover as well.

If a wool sock is going to be called a wool sock, it needs to be no less than 75% wool. I watched your review of the first 3 brands and you had nothing I would buy. We are on a different level of what makes a good sock.

@@TheMensch I have spent the last 30 winter outside working on steel for 12 hours a day and the higher wool content stays dryer and warmer. On hit day higher wool content doesn’t stink. You can actually hang them up to dry and the next morning they have no smell at all.. all smart wool socks have horrible elastic in the tops but wear like iron. I end up folding the top of all smartwool socks over the top of my boots. All good man

They normally sell for $125. depending on the ply... but you might be able to find them in a outlet? Or online?
