Wonderful. Clever and entertaining. Why are programmes like this not around now? - Another Kiwi :)

Dazzlingly witty, bright and informative. I used to listen to rebroadcasts of _My Word!_ on Saturday afternoons before scheduled weekend work in the 1990s here in the United States. Thinking back on it now those were such halcyon days.

I listened to this throughout my teenage years and it gave me a lifelong love of words and wit

Regular Saturday morning listening here in NZ in the 70s and 80s, some of the shows probably still from this early run. Wonderful stuff.

My parents & I stopped everything bar our heart beat at 11 am on a Saturday to listen to either My Word, or later My Music, in NZ. As my brother & I agree ... "of their likes we may never hear/see again". Same applies to The Goons.

There's a US radio program called "Says You" in a similar vein. The teams are larger, and I'd say the banter is less scholarly, but I've enjoyed it in the absence of "My Word". "Says You" had its final show earlier this year, and I'll miss it as well. Thank you so much for putting these "My Word" episodes up!

What a glorious restitution! I wonder how many of these lovely episodes survive. Erudition and wit!

A large percentage of the shows still exist, but as they are not archived in or sold from any one place, it’s not easy to gather them together.

I doubt many modern listeners would have the patience. No moving pictures for one thing. Their loss, sadly.

The show was never quite the same when the “chairman” Jack Longland retired from it. The subsequent hosts didn’t quite “fit” and kind of screwed it up. Nancy Spain tragically died in a planet crash in 1964 and was ultimately replaced by Antonia Fraser.

Planet crash? Aircraft. Spain was replaced by Anne Scott-James whom lasted for many years. Antonia Fraser came much later and was far less entertaining. Also, see Nancy Spain’s bizarre run-in with Evelyn Waugh.
