I flip in 5' of water in the ocean. Took on too much water from a boat wave. Lost over 6000.00 worth of gear, electronics, battery, motor, etc.. shouldn't say lost, damage it all. Flipping with gear is so much different than with nothing. Put Floaties on ur rods. I was going to quit. I lost confidence in my PA14 and sold it. I purchased a native titan x 12.5. I know I flipped because of the top weight. The titan has a much lower center of gravity with the batteries in the hull. It's hard, but I did have insurance. But it still takes hit on ur confidence. Hang in there. Everything will work out. 😊
@AliexFolgueira10 ай бұрын
the titanis much much stable than the pa14, i do worry about that high seat, you should pool test it. Sorry about the loss of your gear, and yes it hits you hard, as you can see i left early i didnt flip it again i was done lol normally i flip it several times, low/high seating, standing up etc

All the more reason the Old Town Autopilot is the best kayak on the water , the battery is strapped down from the factory to not move. Not saying it cant fall out but a lot less likely. The seat also traps it in place because its locked down as well. You would be hard pressed to lose it. The pole? Eh , solve that with bungee tie downs. I have 5 or six little bungee tie downs on all my pole holders and I can just easily clip them on to the rods. Anyhow man , good yak , stability is impressive.

@@AliexFolgueira ok , well , thats all fine and good but dont you think that 45 pound trust is enough to do what its designed to do , fish from? I mean racing kayaks is not a thing and from my experience , getting farther faster just leads to passing over fish you could have already been catching?? Nothing against Bixpy and the NK300 but it just seems to be a little too much power, especially at the rear and you could possibly get the rear kicking out and sliding the kayak away from you and dumping ya. It just seems risky.

I'm sorry about your loss from the flip test. I definitely have almost everything in my kayak secured. I strap the expensive 28 lb battery down, rods are locked down, motor is secured, propel drive is secured with additional tether, and front hatch is secured. I do believe that kayak manufacturers years ago made a mistake by making the hull open to storage (Hobie always allowed it). The original propel series by Native and the Wilderness ATAK 120 (I have both) have limited hull access and no way to fill the hull with water except if the hull experienced a rupture. At least the Bonafide hull maintained its buoyancy - a good sign for all the distant spots that you visit in your kayaks.
@AliexFolgueira10 ай бұрын
it is one of those things, you account for EVERYTHING yet when it happens all hell break loose. On pre planning stages of this video, I thought i was going to flip it in shallow waters and if something happens i can recover...the tie was LOW, could not flip it in shallow. The rod, i thought i had it secured, sooo many things to focus on when you do this stuff, you gonna miss something.

Why don't you flip a fully loaded kayak,...just to proof your point! That said,...a full rigged kayak may be hard to flip vs a a lightly loaded kayak,...either way, a fully rigged kayak is going to be a worse nightmare trying to upright! Edit 1: A guy told me that if I "keep my head inside of the gunnels, I won't flip my kayak,",...and basically, that's what you're doing! Also, you "rocking" the kayak won't flip it either,...as the rocking is just 'countering' the action to flip it! Now try this,...just lean over to either sides,...and allow your "Head" to be over the gunnel,...I bet it flips the first time! Edit 2: I lost a reel 'n rod one evening,...could find it for jack's sake,...but came back early the next morning and found it! It still works fine to this day!
@AliexFolgueira2 күн бұрын
No this one won't flip with 200# me. Your head can be in the middle but you legs and but out, that's enough, it is over 20ft deep there, rod gone. Uprighting a kayak full of stuff isn't a big deal, the problem is you will lose some gear, nobody has flipped more kayaks than me that's for sure, so I have more experience and know more about these things than most people out there.
