Carla from Batukizer presents a Brazilian selection from obscure 7inches to the diva Elza Soares - Queen of samba grooves.
Batukizer DJs are Carla from Rio de Janeiro and Rasmus from Copenhagen.
They are currently residents on NTS Radio and Radio Al Hara.
In 2025, they will start to release a series of remixes of obscure Brazilian dance tunes.
Brazilian by birth and heart, Carla's biggest passion is Brazilian culture, and she was schooled in dance, percussion and acting. The combination of Carla´s knowledge of regional culture and Rasmus' intense digging for rootsy sounds, rhythms and rarities formed the DJ duo Batukizer.
They deliver a steady flow of mixes on their own KZbin channel and DJ all over Europe and Brazil.

There's also a curiosity about Grupo Cravo e Canela, responsible for the fifth song of this selection, the fourth track of the album that bears the same name and was released in 1991. This band would only become a huge national success in 1994, after the first track of "Sabor de Paz" album took national parades by assault: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6PPY2p-g79_aaM "Lá Vem o Negão" can be considered one of the essential songs of the 1990's pagode scene, a time when lots of bands of this rhythm (a variation of samba) rose to stardom, like Raça Negra, Só pra Contrariar (Latinos may probably know its lead singer Alexandre Pires, as he was quite successful in the Spanish-speaking part of the Americas on his solo career), Negritude Jr., Só Preto Sem Preconceito and other ones. Despite the huge success of the track, Cravo e Canela can be considered a one-hit-wonder of the pagode. Searching for the very specific song played on this selection, I discovered that it enjoyed a moderate success on clubs frequented by the low-mid-class on São Paulo city. I read comments of people probably by their 50s today saying that they missed a venue called Dançódromo 40 Graus, located on the Northern side in the neighbor of Santana (the place where Ayrton Senna lived most of his life). Probably "Grupo Cravo e Canela" album was a DJ's darling , despite not being that known by the broader audience.
