Inle Lake is a unique microcosm of Burmese culture set amidst breathtaking nature. The way the people of the lake live arouses a sense of yearning and conveys the illusion of an archaic, perfect world. Here, the whole scope of Burmese ancient traditions is reflected unadulterated.
For a long time the region was inaccessible to outsiders, but now, in the course of the country’s political reorientation, the life circumstances of the people of the lake are changing too. The lake is a lifeline for fishermen and farmers alike. The unique floating gardens of the latter are cultivated on the water’s surface, resembling a giant carpet of water lilies. Here people grow fruit and vegetables as well as flowers. The nutrient medium for these unusual fields is provided by a fertile mixture of marsh, soil, and water hyacinths, which is fixed to the lakebed with bamboo stakes.
This unique artificial landscape offers the locals sufficient food and work all at once - in a country where neither of the two can be taken for granted.

Myanmar is a beautiful country and it's people simple and hard working. It is a pity the Govt does not do anything to improve their lives. What struck me most while watching this Documentary is the joy and satisfaction manifested on their faces. They also help each other. Compare these people with the well to do people who live in the cities with much better conveniences. They do not look happy and satisfied as these simple people. There is no sense of co operation among the city dwellers. Each one is concerned about his or her conveniences and comforts. No wonder the rich city dwellers are more unhappy and sick. Thank you for this great Documentary.

i love the clip, each country culture is very interesting, such as the myanmar villager way of life in this clip. i would like to know Laos, Cambodia culture too. But it's a pity that Cambodian (on the internet) try to claim almost all Thai culture (and other country's interesting culture too). Those cambodians seem to refuse and neglect their real culture. For Laos (on the internet) many of them try hard to show their ugly faces instead of presenting their beautiful & calm angles, that they have.
