Arrived in Yangon on the 15th December feeling truly sick. I even threw up on the plane from Bangkok to Yangon. Can't help but to take taxi from the airport all the way to the guest house. Ah such rare luxury.
While trying to look for taxi, I was helped by a local who turns out to be Malaysian. He helped me bargain the price and we both agreed on 7000 kyatt (chat). That equals to $5 more or less. In Myanmar, accommodation can be quite challenging as it is hard to find budget hostel/guest house. I finally managed to find the cheapest one that cost $10 per night. A dorm with shared bathroom. I am impressed with the cleanliness and more importantly, the sincerity these staff show.
Not long after checking in, I passed out. Thankfully, I managed to sleep peacefully somewhat affected by the pills I took. Feeling refreshed, I was ready to roam.
Today I am simply grateful.
I am astonished, I am mesmerized. Not only because of Schwedagon Pagoda (I spent hours just watching), but mostly because of the PEOPLE.
Yes yes, I have heard so much about Myanmar people from other travelers. But truly, their sincerity and generosity is exceeding my expectation.
Although, I still get quite a lot of bizarre stare as per usual, I have managed to interact with local who are seem to be curious about me.
They would think I am Malaysian, all of them. Perhaps because of my hijab, or I dont know. I am grateful by how my hijab always successfully have initiated conversation. Well, not always.
To be honest, during my years of travel I have met quite number, if not a lot, of people reluctant to look at me or seem to feel afraid. I am hoping it is just my assumption.
Whatever it is, I am simply soaking in all of this contentment feeling.
Being in a new country for the first time always fascinates me. At the end of the day, those spent almost $200 doesn't seem matter as much anymore.
Enjoy and thanks so much for watching! xo-Syifa

John Paul Low Seck Hi John! This is a pre-recorded video. I am currently in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam since the 28th last month. Nonetheless, thank you so much for watching! Yes Myanmar (no longer Burma) is a very rich country in terms of history and culture. Most areas are still raw and untouched by the world's major tourists/travelers, except the famous ones like Bagan, Inlay Lake and Mandalay. I still have 2 Myanmar videos to be edited and uploaded and 1 travel journal video when I did The Mae Hong Son Loop in North Vietnam. Hope you'll enjoy it! Cheers

I have been 4 times but still like Indonesia. I must as I have been living here for 8 years so far. Great reports. You present well on video. You are a star Putri.

Irkham Kholid It depends on which type of place are you looking for. I can't say which one is the best since different country has different pros and cons. I have been to all SEA countries except Laos and Brunei, so I can't speak about it. Perhaps do a bit of research so that it might help you a bit :-)

masyi hilmi Hi Masyi Hilmi. I traveled to 2 states in the South; Mon and Kayin as well as 2 states in the North; Shan and Mandalay. I have had no discriminating experiences due to religion, although the trip wasn't all easy due to still developing country's access to tourism. But that was all about it. A lot of Muslim I found in Yangon as well as in Mandalay. Myanmar people are generally kind hearted and smiley. In terms of Rohingya, it is true that it is located near the Bangladesh border. It is not so much about religion issue alone, because if Myanmar people hate Muslim, they won't allow any mosque to be build, and I found a lot of mosques in Mandalay alone. Hope this one helps.
@SyifaAdriana

Sk Eo Hello Eo! Thanks so much for your helpful answer. You are right! I am hoping people are not stopping their intention to travel to Myanmar just because of Rohingya issue, because a lot of that news are very misleading although it does happen.

@@SyifaAdriana yes, Myanmar does the discrimination and inhumane cruelty in areas further from big cities such as Mandalay and Yangon. And also, Myanmar doesn't allow Mosques renovation and any new mosques buliding in the country. Except the ones in big cities so that they can point out that there is no religious discrimination. Please educate yourself in detail before telling the world Myanmar is a peaceful country and there's no discrimination because saying that way, you are siding yourself with rapists and murderers. Recently, a few days ago in Yangon , Myanmar Buddhist people force the muslima from going to mosque. Please research. We went to Yangon in 2013 and 2014. We can see the pagoda from dining room in Excel Treasure Hotel. So, one day we try to walk there. For me, Yangon is a corolla city, so many corollas especialy the wagon ones in the street. They are used as taxis. One time, I take a picture of this corolla and leave it. But, a woman called me and with her she bring a man. She spoke local, I could not understand, but from the man gesture, I know, they want to delete the photos in my cellphone. I am shock, how come this is probited in Myanmar? Then, when we arrive at the Shwedagon, I did not take any picture at all. Foreigners were not so many back then. From this video, I see Myanmar is quite develop. In those years I only see white car in the street, it is very boring. But now, it is much more colourful. The other thing I remember, in hotel we met a Myanmarese who ever work in Malaysia. And he can speak Malays, so we speak to him in Bahasa. Indonesian and Malaysian language is not so different, he almost understand all we talking :-)

Assalamualaikum Dik Syifa. Baru teringat nak kongsi nasihat...

Kemayan Labu Thank you for your concern. I dont think they personally have issues with Msian, but I can't speak for them. I think they thought I am Malaysian because of the hijab only. Nonetheless they are usually excited to know that I am Indonesian. I traveled to the Southern (Mon & Kayin State) part and Northern (Shan & Mandalay) and didnt find any discrimination due to my religion. So I think it is best to travel to Myanmar (no longer Burma) and see as well as experience yourself how is the country.

Syifa Adriana Alhamdulillah gitu. Apa pun, kita teruskan husnul dzon, bersangka baik 😀
