Blue Jay Mobbing Alarm Calls

Caution - hearing hazard! Classic 100 Decibel Blue Jay group alarm mob calls for a hapless cat that dares tread into the Backyard jungle in daytime. 10 to 12 Blue Jays live near the Backyard in an extended family group and when the alarm goes off for a cat or hawk or snake they all converge into a mob and attempt to drive them off - or crazy - with their jeering mob calls.

I have one very clever Blue Jay that hangs around my feeders. There's a hawk in the area as well, so when the hawk comes in, the Blue Jay sounds the alarm, and the smaller birds & squirrels all scatter to safety. But the Blue Jay also sounds the alarm when the feeders are crowded with smaller birds, making them run for safety - then he swoops in and has the buffet all to himself!

Might be an annoying sound but warning sounds would have to be. Their calls have probably saved many lives of birds and squirrels. So thank you blue jays for doing your job. 😊

I was out in my front yard two days ago and noticed one of the blue jays going berserk and flying around a particular area of the yard, near the tree line. Walked over to investigate and found a good-sized rattlesnake making its way across the lawn. You learn something new every day...

lol this is happening in the woods behind our house right now and it's been going on for about 30 minutes! I finally decided to look up what bird is making all that ruckus! Honestly, whenever I heard this I always assumed it was ravens or something, not blue jays! I had no idea they would mob together like this! Whenever I see them they're always swooping around by themselves.

LOVE THIS! My blue Jay's have warned me a few times this summer of snakes chilling around my hard. I always go out to see what they are chirping about. Sometimes the squirrels chime in as well. My yard gets loud at times...gotta love nature! BLUE JAY'S, THE TATTLE TALES OF PREDATORS!!😁

I got tired of playing Hawk sounds to clear out some pesky House Finch. Took almost an hour of playing a variety of other sounds, and they wouldn't leave. Yup👍, this worked instantly!! I will be adding this to the list of sounds that work❤. Thank you so much!!

thanks for sharing this video. i came out on my porch and heard this same call from 3 different Blue Jays and i was trying to figure out what they were freaking out about so I looked it up here on KZbin. They definitely put out warning calls. They see danger even if we don't see it. Other birds do react to the blue jays"alarm calls". Kinda like the way we respond to our "alarm warning sounds" everyone listens and respond accordingly. Such as a police siren, firetruck or even a tornado warning . Cool birds!!
