Mycorrhizae | Tree Biology & Soil Science

Mycorrhizae (plural) refers to the mutually-beneficial relationships between certain types of fungi and plants; the fungi connect to and expand the root system. Plants give up carbohydrates in exchange for more water & nutrients, as well as chemical & biological protections.
Be careful using or recommending mycorrhizal products. They may not work when combined with fertilizer, or have any effect in the typical landscapes in which arborists may work. They do have positive impacts in laboratory, agricultural, and restoration/reclamation efforts.
