Doc explains how Mycorrhizal Fungi Works in the lawn and garden and then does an application of Super Juice with added Mycorrhizal Fungi spores and microbes. He also adds a wetting agent to help water infiltrate the clay soil better. It's a long day of learning, cutting the lawn, and working in the garden.
How it Works -
Mycorrhizal fungi are a fascinating group of fungi that form a symbiotic relationship with the roots of most plants. The word "mycorrhiza" comes from the Greek words "mycos," meaning fungus, and "rhiza," meaning root. This mutually beneficial association between plants and mycorrhizal fungi has been crucial for the success and health of both terrestrial plants and ecosystems for millions of years.
Colonization: Mycorrhizal fungi colonize the soil and develop a vast network of tiny, thread-like structures called hyphae. These hyphae are much smaller than plant roots and can access soil spaces and nutrients that are out of reach for plant roots.
Root Association: When a plant root comes into contact with the mycorrhizal hyphae, the fungi form a physical and functional association with the root. This association can take different forms depending on the type of mycorrhizal fungi and the plant species involved, but the two most common types are: Ectomycorrhizae: These fungi form a sheath around the outside of the root and extend their hyphae into the soil between soil particles. Commonly associated with trees like oaks, pines, and birches.b. Endomycorrhizae (Arbuscular Mycorrhizae): These fungi penetrate the plant root cells, forming intricate structures called arbuscules and vesicles within the root cells. This type of mycorrhizae is more widespread and is commonly found in a wide range of plants, including most agricultural crops.
Nutrient Exchange: The mycorrhizal association enables a mutually beneficial nutrient exchange between the plant and the fungus. The plant provides the mycorrhizal fungi with sugars and other organic compounds produced during photosynthesis. In return, the mycorrhizal fungi enhance the plant's ability to absorb nutrients, especially phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium, zinc, and copper, from the soil. This is particularly important in soils with low nutrient availability.
Water Uptake: Mycorrhizal fungi also help plants improve their water uptake. The extensive network of hyphae acts like a secondary root system, increasing the surface area available for water absorption and reducing water loss by enhancing the plant's drought resistance.
Pathogen Protection: Mycorrhizal fungi can also play a role in protecting plants from certain pathogens. The hyphal network can create a barrier that restricts the entry of harmful soil-borne pathogens into the root zone.
Ecosystem Impact: Mycorrhizal fungi have significant implications for ecosystems. They enhance soil structure and stability, contribute to carbon sequestration, and facilitate nutrient cycling. In natural environments, they are crucial for plant succession and the establishment of new vegetation.
In summary, mycorrhizal fungi form a mutually beneficial relationship with plants, enhancing nutrient uptake, water absorption, and pathogen protection. This association has been essential for the success of plants in various terrestrial environments and plays a critical role in maintaining healthy ecosystems.

I want to thank you for ALL the advice you give. I have lived at my current residence for over 23 years. My yard has NEVER looked SO GOOD! My wife said what in the world did you do. I had thousands of beetles & mole crickets. Over 1/3 of my yard was dirt with a few blades of grass. I used Andersons duocide & that was the secret. I get compliments on my yard now ALL the time! 😊

Good morning Doc. I've had to give up my secret to my neighbors on how my lawn is the best in the neighborhood. I've met neighbors that I wouldn't have talk to and they're all cool people. So yes I have shared your channel with anyone who asks. There's been some comments about prices of Anderson's products going up, I believe you warned people that this was going to happen. Talk with my neighbors that have lawn services I'm achieving better results at a lower cost per year. Also I'm watering less due to the roots are using it more efficiently. So thank you Doc for the knowledge 👍

Howdy from Raleigh Doc. Keep up the hard work. We moved to our home in November and I have been working this bermuda lawn. Seeing nice results and getting nice comments from the neighbors. My neighbor Hank is who referred me to your channel and his bermuda looks like carpet.

Great video Doc, thanks for being so educational & informative on these videos. Being up here in New Hampshire “cool season Guys” 😊 I’ve really benefited from the Anderson’s fertilizers. But do have a question for you.. Do you have any recommendations for getting rid of Voles besides mouse traps? Thanks

Doc, I have had luck using Sulfentrazone 4SC on my goose grass. Doesn't fully kill it, but does severly yellow the weed and halts new growth for a period of time. I found this gave my common bermuda a chance to choke it out a bit.

Great video Doc. Seems the price of PGF complete keeps sky rocketing. It’s now $51 dollars for a 18lb bag. Earlier this spring I paid 38 from Home Depot for the same bag. Pretty frustrating.

Assuming you have Bermuda? Best success I’ve had is a mix of Dismiss and Revolver. Google this because most research suggests a reduced Revolver oz/acre. 2 treatments 7-10 days apart. FYI, it’s probably too hot to do this without significant injury at this time. If you have significant Goosegrass this time of year, best bet is to get a good pre-emergent program going next year. Just my experience dealing with Goosegrass for 3 years…

Doc after you put those three bottles on lawn does it stress it more if you cut Why do random products recommend not to cut 2 days before and two days after ??? What’s your thoughts?

We leave on for a few hours for any foliar intake... then water in. The foliar only really happens while it's wet. Then we drive it down to the roots. It's just food.
@Neejay
@Neejay Жыл бұрын
From what I understand, 2 days before is to make sure it reaches the root (before cutting the foliage), and 2 days after is to let the weed foliage grow enough to actually spray it
