Im not far into your video but just the part where you say not to be nervous about not getting all the terminology yet, really helped me a lot. I have been wanting to become a security professional and have been struggling to retain the wealth of information available everywhere. I was beginning to think that maybe I'm just not going to get it and I should pursue other ambitions. This video has been great. It is very well explained, perfectly presented and not dripping with monotoned condescension. I feel engaged and have not lost interest since I started it. Usually, by now my mind would begin to wander and I'd be considering what I should make for dinner or what I'd like the weekend to look like. I said all of that to say, thank you and I will continue to tune in.

I train my people in IT like we are both children. I try to do fun things to keep people awake and engaged like letting them break certain things to show them how quickly they can be fixed with honest communication. When you get really in depth with technology, a lot of it becomes tedious and terminology sounds like a different language, which in many ways it is.

Thanks. I already am a cybersecurity person, but helps to refresh my memory and all (never 'officially' had a job in it, but have studied it for many years). I run Linux systems, so I also fall into a false sense of security, since attacks on Linux are so rare (as you said, its mostly because Windows is so popular, but 'any' system can be attacked). And 2 Factor Auth. is one of the first things I recommend to people (I believe this is probably the biggest thing that has saved me over the years :-)

school? u mean college?
@johnathanheatherman64384 жыл бұрын
@@gonzalo_rosae no there's CS bootcamps. Depending on the bootcamp they can be just as good as a college degree kinda like a tradeschool. But I've seen a lot of scam type ones where they say they won't charge you if you arent offered a job above a certain salary but they will usually offer you a job qualifying in the range and then you either have to take it or take the risk of searching for a job with just the bootcamp which aren't usually accredited. My recommendation to anyone maybe thinking of spending the money on a bootcamp i would go for certifications as you'll be able to pay for them the same way a bootcamp works. Its just self taught but that looks more impressive. Now if you're deciding between college and bootcamp. Spend the extra time (it's usually about the same price at the end) and get a degree as it will carry more weight. If you have completed a bootcamp all the more power to you im just giving advice from personal experience. Also your degree is accredited so you can have the possibility of getting it for free if you spend 24/7on scholarships. But the MOST important thing is definitely a good set of certifications(range from 100-1000) like a pentester would want the CEH (this ones ass but its good at landing you most CS jobs for whatever reason) the OSCP(one of the BEST) comptia Pentest+ and a few others related to cyber security.
