I got a Zappy installed in Sydney Australia. Added the Hub, harvi and needed the extra CT clamps for my install. Works great with the 10kw solar setup. Lots of setup options and have only charged from solar so far which is great.

So what, no love Mike? ;) In terms of your question, once you have your solar array setup (DIY or Installed), all you need to do is get a CT clamp connected on the solar live cable in the consumer unit connected back to the Zappi or a Harvi and the Zappi will be able to know when there is solar surplus to use.

Good video.Interesting article about EV cars in the Mail yesterday.RAC said it is now more expensive to run a electric car than a diesel car - 95 Pounds to fill a 55 litre diesel tank and almost 100 to go the same distance in a EV car.I assume if you charge at home it will still be cheaper than a diesel car ?
@SpectrumGeeks
@SpectrumGeeks Жыл бұрын
Yeah those articles are a little misleading in my opinion. Yes if your only option is using the public charging network it will cost you more. I charge for 4 hours off peak at 7.5 pence per kW, which means it costs me about £2.10 to do 72 miles. I don't think a diesel is that cheap.

Just took my Zappy out as the app isn’t very intuitive. Went for the Simpson and Partners with battery and solar monitoring. So much cleaner, smaller and better tech in my opinion.

Hi Dale, only just watched this as I have just returned from a 14 day cruise. Very informative as always. Coincidently whilst away a received a replacement Zappi V2.1 as my original V2 was overheating. It has yet to be installed. I like the LEDs on my existing hub so not sure if I will use the v-hub on the new Zappi yet. I did take the opportunity to change from a untethered to tethered version however!!, Nigel
@SpectrumGeeks

Hope you had a great cruise. I think the physical hub is the better option overall if you have one already, but for now the vHub seems to be working ok for me. Think you will enjoy the tethered zappi, but less messing about.

Thanks Dale!, my 4 year old Zappi v2 blew an internal relay and now I’m waiting for a new Zappi. I notice on Octopus Intelligent it will drain my battery which is annoying. Where did you put your CT clamp to monitor the battery on the Myenergi app? I have a Solaredge PV with an AC coupled LG battery. Also, will I have to disconnect my Myenergi hub first as the new charger doesn’t need you to have a hub? Any help would be appreciated. Keep up the great vids.
@SpectrumGeeks
@SpectrumGeeks 9 ай бұрын
I recently moved to IO (video to come) and you are correct, its not smart enough to not drain the battery if it charges at this time, so I never plug it in when I have battery storage :) You wont need to remove the hub, you can use the existing one, or you can move things to the Zappi built in hub. My CT clamp is on the live cable of the battery inverter MCB. If your LG battery is using the SolarEdge inverter then sadly you cant use the battery CT option, but I think you can set in the MyEnergi settings that its AC coupled.

How likely is it thst this will not get obsolete in 10 15 years. Just got mine installed today, 1.2k, not cheap, so hoping I'll not need to be replaced evert few years with tech advances

Technology is constantly changing, but the fundamentals of charging the current generation EVs at home is the same on single phase ... 7kW charging. So assuming the device continues to function well, and my previous one was fine for 4 or so years before I moved house, it will continue to do the job. The advantage of the Zappi as I mentioned at the end, is its not app dependant or anything, you can control it all locally on the device.

Good video - thanks for sharing it. Do you have any recommendations as to where to purchase the Zappi from?
@SpectrumGeeks

I personally bought mine from CEF as I already had a local electrician approved for EV installation. If you don't have this option, use the get a quote option on the MyEnergi website - www.myenergi.com/get-a-zappi-quote/

Hi Dale, do you know if you can use just some of your surplus export rather than all of it in anyway in the settings thanks Dave
@SpectrumGeeks
@SpectrumGeeks Жыл бұрын
In a round about way YES. However, there is not a specific setting to say you only want to use X % of surplus, so you need to mess with the Grid Limit / Load current and maybe the device limit to restrict how much energy is used for car charging. If easier and your car support it, you could lower the AMP charge setting in the car so it draws less power, and as a result uses less surplus. Personally I would just let it use the surplus available rather than messing with the settings for niche situations. Is there a specific reason you don't want to allow your Zappi to use all surplus available?
@divad4438
@divad4438 Жыл бұрын
@@SpectrumGeeks reasons I want to max my export limit first and use the zappi to mop up the rest of the surplus at peak production times. I'm waiting on a plumber to fit my hot water tank then fitting a eddi that then that can do a 3.5kw draw that will help. There's more to it but that's a longer story to reply. Thanks for your reply 👍

Charging from home on Octopus Energy it costs £5.47 to fill my EV up which will do around 280 miles so very cheap. However, using public charging then I suspect it is comparable to diesel,
@SpectrumGeeks
@SpectrumGeeks Жыл бұрын
Agree, if using public charging its not cheap, but I think most people will be charging at home, and hopefully off peak, which even with current electric pricing is pretty competitive.

Excellent video. We have 2 EVs in the house. One by me and the other by a flat mate. Do you know if it’s possible to set up seperate logins? I want to make sure he is paying his own EV electric bill. Does the zappi have that function?
@SpectrumGeeks
@SpectrumGeeks Жыл бұрын
I don't think its possible to have separate logins, the only security feature is a pin to lock the charger. The app also shows a graph of a weeks charge, but not in kWh to facilitate billing. I think your only option is to make a note how many kWh per charge on the screen ... its not really setup to be used a a billable thing. If you and your flat mate charge similar amounts, perhaps agree to put X in a charging pot per month to cover extra energy usage.

Hi mate great video, me and the mrs have a my24 polestar 2, and also a ex30 on order too. We are looking at going to intelligent octopus most likely. How reliable is the schedule charging on the Zappi? Did you set up directly on the charger, as I am aware that polestar and volvo are currently not supported with octopus.

Sorry need to add a little more is there anything that you can do on the polestar to stop the charging at say 80-90%.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I have been using the Zappi charging schedule for around 5 years, and its pretty much 100% reliable, even when I have had cars that have internal scheduling I prefer to use the Zappi. I setup the charging on the Zappi, check out my video on Zappi Boost Timer for more info. Also just an FYI, Intelligent Octopus is not currently compatible with Volvo or Polestar, or the Zappi at the moment, but the Zappi should be compatible later on this year.

Hi great video and allot of help the one question I will ask is it that when you plug your car in does it automatically start to charge. As I have a Peugeot 2008 and as soon as I plug in it starts to charge unless I press the delay charge button next to fill cap.the peugeot doesn't seem to have a set time frame to charge. On set on and goes of when full. But I have a reduced rate now from British Gas and I want to use the my energy app
@SpectrumGeeks
@SpectrumGeeks Жыл бұрын
If the car is plugged in and the Zappi is set to Eco or Fast the car will start to charge. If its set to Eco+ it will not charge unless you have excess solar or during a boost timer window. So I leave mine in Eco+ mode, then it only charges when I have the boost timer set to charge during the off peak window.

What’s the difference between eco and eco +
@SpectrumGeeks

@tjb8356
@tjb8356 Жыл бұрын
Okay thanks, so I don’t have solar just charge straight from the grid through my distribution board using Octopus Go set on the app timer to charge at night, therefore I assume I should set to eco as eco + is not relevant? If I set to fast it starts charging straightaway.
@SpectrumGeeks
@SpectrumGeeks Жыл бұрын

@@SpectrumGeeks Brilliant thanks for your help, just one more question if I may, on the app on eco + there is a sliding % scale from 0 - 100%, as we don't have solar panels should this be set at a specific % such as 100% or at a lesser percentage, not sure what impact this setting has on charging?

@@tjb8356 I think its 50% by default in the app, but I am not sure what it does. Short version though, you don't need to mess with it. I am also now without solar with this zappi install, just leave app % bit alone, set your boost timers and leave in Eco+ and it should be good to go.
