Hiiiiiiii everyone! I was looking through my documents the other day and came across my original list of things I thought I would need for my first horse! It's crazy for me looking back at what I wrote down now, after going through the whole process because I can definitely see that I was naive and totally had no idea what the word "need" meant LOL! Needless to say I ended up only buying a few items when I first got Ralph. Of course it's different for everyone, but these were the things I found that I needed. I hope you enjoy this video! Personally if it's an even ratio between videos like one chatting video one week and a riding video the next I'll bee in love but if you end up being like grace Barnett where she dose like 15 chatty videos and then only does 1 horse video then to me it's an equestrian channel you need to do more than 80% chatty videos and actually have some horses on your videos You know what I mean Hope my opinion helped ☺️

some people replied saying stuff like "wow only 2 years?" but I kind of disagree. It's about how much knowledge and experience you gain in that amount of time. You could be a quick learner, while others are stupid or don't learn as quicklyand learn the same things as someone who has ridden for 1 year but in 5 years or something. (I have ridden almost 3 years but am waiting one more year before considering getting a horse. I know how to bathe, brush, tack up, and muck stalls of course. I can jump up to 4ft and know my leads and diagonals ect. I still want to wait a bit though because I am only 13)

I do not own or lease but do train horses for people and have to provide some of my own supplies. They provide the saddle, saddle pad, and bridle. They also provide shavings, and feed. I have to provide grooming supplies, 2 lunge lines (we drive all the horses for a few weeks before we ride), a lunge whip, fly spray, halter and lead rope, and anything else I feel is necessary to get the job done. They provide 2 bags of shavings per week. If I need more than that I have to buy my own. (Which has happened since we do not have turn out and the horses are in stalls unless they are being worked.)

I've been waiting since I was 9 and now I'm 19. I went out and rescued one from a kill buyer. I may be broke but I have no regrets. Sometimes parents forget things, but don't lose faith. The perfect steed is out there waiting for you.

if you don't need a bridle or saddle you need: 1: Halter 2: Lead rope 3: Fly mask 4: Fly spray 5: saddle pad 6: fly sheet/rain sheet 7: Brushes

I would say always wait to buy the tack before buying the horse so you know what sizes especially when buying saddles. Also sometimes the horse will come with tack.

Things you need for your first pony Mechanical hackamore bit Loads of crops ( the more painful the better ) Extremely sharp spurs ( the more pointy the better ) Stock whips ( to scare that sucker into submission ) An extra tight and pinchy girth Ill fitting saddle I am not serious what my point is that you dont need ANY of this tact to become a confident rider and you certainly need to be 100% positive that your SADDLE is fitted properly and you have the CORRECT FITTING girth. remember a happy relaxed horse makes a happy relaxed rider and also a big mistake is that alot of people blame any issues they are having on the poor horse when in reality 99.9 % of the time it is human error not the horse . It is important not just to have the right tact and ridding instructor what is equally important is the ground work you do with your horse and your ability to understand what the horses are telling you . Understanding your horse is easy if you are paying attention and looking out for the signals the horses are giving you which you can then predict any potential problems and address them before they become major ones . Other things to consider are the horses proper nutrition which any vet or produce store can help you with . Where you are going to keep your new horse is sutible ,safe ( which I mean secure fencing and gates no rubbish or junk around that can injure your horses this also includes poisonous plants and what accommodation is in your budget . Also having a good vet ,farrier, equine dentist and chiropractor ( which is handy but not essential to begin with ) I wish you all many happy hours of fun with your new horses

Maybe its different where you live in Canada but in the US when you buy a horse, tack usually isn't included. Wish it was though!

Im working on my lessons and may be starting a job at a barn. My friend has a horse boarded and i visit a lot, my heart is set on getting one! Maybe a year or so until i can start getting tack, if i get the job at the barn i get money for future boarding there! This video helped and motivated me😂

I' m 14 and have just gotten my first job, so after nearly 9 years of riding and desperately wanting a horse, I finally might be able to have one on full loan / lease ^-^ My family isn't all that wealthy so buying one outright probably isn't realistic, but with my job I could pay for board and also vet/farrier/dentist sessions. I just hope that a) the horse will come with tack and rugs, and b) you're right and I won't actually need all that much! I don't have lots of money xD

Buy stuff after. Like saddle needs to be fitted to horse and you of course. So get a saddle fitter like county saddle fitter. All ways have more than one halter and lead rope, which should be breakaway if it's not leather.

Also have the vet for your barn give them a check before you decide to buy them. That advice has steered me clear of buying lame horses, or even ones that just don't click with you

This really isn't things you need but, getting any horse(whether it be your first or not) always go to the barn and ride them. Then if you like them, ask if you can bring the horse to your place for a 2 week trial

I'm taking my first riding lessons soon and I don't have a boot/shoe with a heel (I do but not a kind that I could ride in) so I found a nice pair of paddock boots and a nice pair of half chaps. What I was wondering was if I could ride without the chaps at first then buy them a couple days/weeks later because I don't have quite enough money to get them at the same time.. If I had to I do have enough but just barley.. I know not to buy a lot for my first lesson in case I don't like it but I definitely know I

I am moving to Denver, and the house we are moving too has a barn. I want to buy a horse, but I am not sure I am ready. I canter, I jump but not super high. And I have been around horses for only 3 years. I don't feel ready yet, but I would like to know your opinion on when I could be ready to get my first horse. What do you think?

I would wait until you know you are ready. I had the same thing happen and I waited for about a year and then I got my horse and I have been riding for 9 years now. Hope this helps 😊

Madison Jensen for lessons you shouldn't really need any of that so you don't need to rush out and buy stuff (depending on where you go i suppose) unless you really want to especially saddle and bridles because one wont fit all (or even many) different horses

I am lessoning right now and you only need the equipment for yourself e.g. jodpurs,boots,hats (sometimes provided)You may need a whip but certainly not a saddle,saddle pad or bit

When yo do decide to buy a saddle, I would recommend a wintec. They are awesome and you can use them on any horse! They're so comfy too! I got mine for christmas but I know my parents got it from adamshorsesupply.com it also came with a $50 rebate! (The saddle was $350)
