I grew up in this resort town Debre Zeit where the Ethiopian Airforce and families were stationed in the 1980s. It was tourist attraction then and it is nice to see the expansion. Unfortunately, the homes by the lake no longer exist. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to share that with my kids when we travel to Ethiopia.

You did a good job! Four years ago I was there with my wife for our honeymoon and one night price was around 73 dollars. It’s funny how this inflation thing is hitting the world very hard. Definitely we will fly there soon.

There is also Babogaya lake there in Debre Zeit which is more scenic and bigger, I highly recommend that. At times language barrier could make people look less polite but you are good in dealing with that. Eat also black injera which is more nutritious, very high in its iron content. 😊. In general Injera is consideed super food and glutin free. The Ethiopian foods in general, meat or vegetable, are mostly 100% organic. Enjoy.

When you are old and gray you will reflect back to these memories with warmth and nostalgia. I admire your adventurous spirit. I long to leave my cubicle, grab my backpack and head for the hills. Man was not built for this 9-5 life that is why the creator lit this spark in our hearts. For now trapped in this rat race as I have many depending on me and have to settle for living vicariously through travelers like yourself. Don’t stop. Find a way to fund yourself and keep going. Addis is a hub so use that to your advantage and see the rest of a Africa. Next do Asia and middle east. Latin America then Europe. Sorry for being direct just thinking out loud.

I was fortunate enough to see what little I did get to do before the ball and chain drudgery of being the bread winner descended upon me🤣. When I was a youngster I was enthralled with the idea of life on the road after reading a copy of the motorcycle diaries by Che Guevara. I started a motorcycle fund. After college before I could realize my dream I had my first son. Them guess what became of my motorcycle fund?
