Ember is where it's at. The app also has steep timers for tea, which is what I use the ember for. It says that it holds 14 oz which is perfect for two 6 oz servings of tea, with room for cream and sugar. I love being able to steep my tea without hovering over it. The app either notifies you on the phone or your watch that your tea is ready. It will notify you again when the tea reaches the temperature you set and it holds it there. It can tell when there is nothing inside the cup and turn itself off. I love that I can walk away, come back, and have a perfect cup of tea.

Thank you for this review, and I agree w/it 100 percent. You saved my from buying and trying the NextMug which Ive seen for like as little as 20 bucks less than the ember 2 16 oz. Yes the ember is IMO way overpriced, but I like you can no longer live w/o it. It is also my goto gift for fellow coffee snobnerds. I'd like to see for under 60 US a cradle-less ubiquitous water resistant temperature control mug. The cradle is the Achille's heel of the emug. if it gets wet with acidic coffee or just water the positive negative "nodes" cause electrolysis and quickly erode. I've had several replaced (E's customer service via text was great) at 120 bucks plus, the cup should have "Qi" fully cordless charging base, and be dishwater AOK. The app is cute, but I'd rather just have my temp control integral to the mug, spend enough time on my freaking phone, ya know. I drink my coffee always black, and simply rinse after each brew before recharging. A usb c charger with a silicone plug like you see on some weatherproof devices like bluetooth speakers would be just dandy in my case. I do like the 1 degree temp gradations, though I bet I'd be fine with a hi med lo sitch if it was like 130 135 140 F, Now here's a million dollar idea that would work on non insulated cups and bowls, something you attach/ stick on to your existing say ceramic cup or bowl that would regulate the heat. Many people have their favorite china teacup or clay mug their kid made them they won't part with, or silly whimsical cartoon cup, I heart wherever/whatever you won't be able to remove their dead fingers from. Be sure and profit share w/ me. Thanks for the review, any review that convinces me not to acquire something is a good one.Doesn't mean the reviewed item isnt a good match for another. If the NM was at a MUCH lower price point I'd jump on it.

I haven't tried the NextMug but right off, I like the style better. Also, the Ember mug continuously disconnects from my phone, and the only way to reconnect it is to re-pair again. Which isn't a big deal because once you set your LED color and temperature the app is really no longer needed. The one thing the Ember mug might have going for it is the reheat times- Because that's something I'll often do. And the power button is on the bottom which is kind of a pain in the ass. Thanks for sharing. I'm definitely gonna test out the NextMug next 😁

I had an Ember, but it was never hot enough for my liking. So I decided to look around for a better product and came across the Ksitoo mug. This product easily could reach my desired temperate, and could be used with or without the app. My Ember has ceased working as it does have a limit on how many times it can be recharged. I expect the Kistoo to last longer. Perhaps you can review the Ksitoo and see how you find it.

@mistymouse68407 ай бұрын
Just to add, Ember is listed as going up to 145 F, where piping hot on the NextMug is listed as 150 F. So I assume that means the Ember cannot keep drinks as hot as the NextMug can.

If you put your hot beverage in a yeti, coffee or an offbrand, it literally stays hot for about 6 to 8 hours of which you’ve probably drank it at that point and it travels well
@LifestyleLab_11 ай бұрын
Yes, until there is enough air in the sealed vessel for it to cool the drink significantly. Say if you drink half and then stop for a bit. Also, a yeti or any thermos assumes you have a sealed thermos with a lid. This is a great solution as it’s still an open lid drinking experience which many prefer
@merionburns6309 Жыл бұрын
I purchased the Nextmug. I love the design shape. I don't have to add another app to my phone and this mug was designed to HOLD the temperature not reheat the drink. And as for the lid, I've got to ask, when does a lid interfere with the enjoyment of the drink ??? This comparison reminds me of the IPhone and Android comparisons by Apple enthusiasts which must justify their costly purchase. LOL
@LifestyleLab_ Жыл бұрын

Thank you. This is very helpful. The Ember mug looks great but has limited support for android apps, and I've had major issues even on an iphone13. Also, even the Apple app is flakey. I need to push the button and reconnect to Bluetooth every day. Ember support was no help. One thing that did help is factory resetting my Apple iphone13. It worked for a while but then went back to a lost connection. I do have a smart home, almost 100 devices, but that should not be an issue since almost all use Wi-Fi. I Agree on 5 degree gap. It's a deal breaker. I gave IOS 2 years, but always had my Android as a backup. Now I keep my iPhone, but I use it only for the Ember app and Wine Spectator, since Wine Spectator also doesn't support Android devices. BTW, it's not as if I have some off the wall Android device. $15 for a lid (Ember) that should be included is insane. Those cost MAYBE 25 cents to make. That's a solid reason NOT to get the Ember. I think your evaluation was quite biased. You started out downplaying the Next and praising the Ember. Not a good start. As for temperature control, I would never put a liquid in a cup and expect the cup to raise the temp. If I used tea or coffee, I would always have it hot before adding it. So the cups only need to maintain temp, not heat it up. You gushed about the shape of one and poo-pooed the other. I happen to think the opposite. So your evaluation should have pointed it out, but since the shape has NOTHING to do with the function, you should have stopped there. I do like the fact the LED on the Ember is programmable, but anytime an appliance needs an App to function, it's an immediate NO for me. It's a coffee cup, not a computer.

Don't buy EMBER / faulty design: The charger for the Ember Mug has two pins to facilitate charging. Problem is that these pins consistently and frequently get stuck and do not touch the mug to charge it. Ember is aware of this faulty design and is still selling the Mugs (w/ charger) then denying any assistance if the pins get stuck after the Warranty is over. Good luck getting help in Warranty as well... There are articles all over the internet, on Amazon, as well as KZbin videos identifying the issue and suggesting home "fixes" for the stuck pins. As if a home fix of a charger is advisable... It is disturbing that Ember is knowingly selling faulty the charger and denying replacements for chargers with the faulty pins. I previously had the same mindset, since you could easily buy a Zojirushi or Yeti for much cheaper and it'll technically last hot longer than a Ember or NextMugs battery life. However for people that enjoy their hot drinks, there's a sweet spot temperature where it's incredibly enjoyable to be just hot enough to require us to sip on but not enough burn your mouth. That's where these come into play. I'm sure to you it sounds very snobbish, but for me, having my coffee or tea be "perfect" consistently over the course of an hour or two (even indefinitely longer on the charging coaster) is very enjoyable.

I got one... I hate cold coffee (or coffee below my perfect drinking temp) and I have two small children... Which means a lot of forgotten hard worked for brewed espresso shots... So yes... The world has gone mad, but I completely understand why🥸

If a mug has tech in it to keep it at the exact temp you want…off course it’s going to be expensive. It’s not just a mug anymore.
