One tip, make sure the cardboard doesn't have any inks, dies, or plastics as that can harm your compost. It can also leave behind trace elements and even heavy metals. Thank you for posting this video and supporting the self-sufficient community!

@@hobo_sapiensmost glue that are used to bind cardboards now are plant based. Very rare case will it not be, like when you want to mail something across the globe and is very heavy, so you want a more sturdy box. But your typical officedepot, Amazon, or online shopping boxes are all plant based material, ink is soy based. So they are all biodegradable, and this can be composted

Uh, no. And that's the misleading part of this video that the author admits he didn't create anything that resembles proper compost. In his own words, he created something that might be usable only as mulch for two reasons... First, that significant amounts of the pile did not decompose completely, and secondly his ingredients only contained mostly Nitrogen so the result is missing Potassium and Phosphate. Maybe the result could be used for a plant that requires only Nitrogen but wouldn't be a very good soil amendment for a wide variety of plants.

This is absolute genius! I've always made it in compost bins and heaps before but even though I keep them well fed, it's a long process. This is so quick and as I practice no-dig both in my garden and on my allotment, this is the perfect way to make the compost exactly where I need it. I've shared your video onto my local Facebook gardening group and subscribed. Love that your children are involved too! I'm going to do this today on some of my no-dig beds that need topping up before planting. Thank you!

Ive seen some folks use dark plastic bins or even metal cans to trap the heat in but havent tried these yet. Im anxious that those materials might leach dangerous chemicals into the soil? Most afforable plastic containers get brittle and break apart with exposure to the sun similar to plastic plant pots. Whereas most metals might break down with prolonged heat and water exposure/rust etc... Anyone have thoughts on this or alternatives that might still have that heat capture effect without those potential risk of contamination? Thanks for the video & any gardeners ideas on this ^_^

Your video popped up, and I had to see what you were up to. I'd like to mention that your first morning pee works great to kick start the composting. Comfrey is an excellent plant that can be turned into "tea" for the garden, chopped up and added to composting, or copped and dropped around plants. Just that simple. Dry Comfrey and add to olive oil, let sit for a month or two. I like the herbs steep in the summer sun and the moonlight. Stain, then add bees wax to make an excellent healing salve. I also grow and dry calendula to add with the Comfrey. Happy gardening 😉

I love it! Have been researching for hours - all was very complicated, you had to have an extra machine to break the material down, need lots of space to store it - you solved all these problems. Brilliant! :D Thank you.

It looks like winter so is a good time to cut your lawn shorter and rake out the Satch which would double or triple the amount of compost you could make. Then your lawn would be stronger and healthier for spring. What a loving creator there is to give us such simple yet sophisticated methods of replenishing the earth. God’s best

Awesome! I have about 100 gallons of aged Urine i have saved up for Tanning. I will get my Hot Compost going! I have an entire Season's worth of lawn clippings, and 9 Acres of Woodland leaf mould i can draw Carbon from....plus maybe a cubic yard of kitchen waste. I suspect Spring will be early here in Arkansas, as the Oaks are already beginning to bud.

This is amazing!!! thank you so much! I just moved into a house with the worst clay soil with lots of small stones and it has felt as an almost daunting task to turn my garden around but this video completely encouraged me to give it a proper go! Thank you!

I have about an inch of dirt then clay soil, it sucks, but that clay is good soil to incorporate (its nutrient rich) your roots just cant penetrate, so mix it with compost and potting soil.

Hello and thank you so much for this video. I never knew that sugar accelerates the process! Can you tell me if each day, after turning the compost, do you use the sugary mix or fresh to water it daily? P.S. I also love how your beautiful little family is involved in the garden!
